  • Last time the 7900 XT showed the potential to be overclocked close to an RTX 4080 in performance. This time we'll take a look at how it does in gaming. Is the 7900 XT the best value 4K gaming GPU? How should you think about this GPU in comparison to the RTX 4070 Ti?

      Well of course you can. Main idea behind this series was to test how much you close the gap between 2 cards while paying couple hundred bucks less. Nvidia cards are good, maybe even great, However they are really overpriced. I think it was demonstrated well here.

    Been waiting for the second part to this series! Pretty interesting findings, I didn’t realize how much of an improvement AMD made with the RT performance. I went with a 4080 this gen mostly because of the power efficiency. My case is SFF and being able to fit that level of performance into 9.5L is amazing. I can power limit the 4080 and pull somewhere around 280W and still compete with AMD’s best in the 7900XTX. I also managed to get the FE second hand for $1050 so it was pretty much a no brainer.

    • @TheLinkedList
      @TheLinkedList Před 8 měsíci +1

      AMD didnt make any increase in RT performance. As a percentage of GPU hit with RT on, its exactly the same as the previous gen. TechpowerUp has the numbers. No idea why tech reviewers were babbling on about it being better.

    • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That's not a bad price for the Founders Edition. Plus, the FE just feels really solid to hold, they really did a nice job putting that thing together. For a SFF, that is a great solution. Putting the XTX in that case would run much warmer.

    • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  Před 8 měsíci

      @TheLinkedList Not sure what numbers you are reading but when I go over to TechPowerUp's review the reference GPU, they show the combined percentage for all the ray tracing benchmarks of the 7900 XT is 35% faster than a 6900 XT at 4K resolution.

    • @TheLinkedList
      @TheLinkedList Před 8 měsíci +3

      @@ImaMac-PC Look at the percentage decrease in performance with RT on. For example a 7900 XT in a Plague Tale Requiem at 1080P, the drop in FPS is 41%. For a 6900 XT the drop in FPS is 43%. The relative performance drop for RT is the same generation to generation. In other words, AMD have not improved RT performance. Just overall performance.
      If you reduced the overall performance of a 7900 XT to match that of a 6900 XT and the two ran at the same FPS (with no RT), you would find that by turning on RT they would continue to be neck on neck in FPS.

    I'm not sure how much of the "fine wine" aging these cards will have, though there has been some differences with the latest drivers. They certainly made up a lot of ground in RT, but still behind and I have little need for RT. Maybe next gen as the game devs start to implement RT in better ways, especially if we can move to Path Tracing (then watch as nVidia rebrand their cards to PTX, so the masses think they developed it). Unfortunately I think the AI boom will still be skewing the market and GPUs will be tweaked for the AI market. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. Looking forward to your comparisons between RDNA 2 & 3. I think I'll be waiting a while with my RX6800XT before an upgrade though as I would want better options for a 4k monitor too.

    • @ImaMac-PC
      @ImaMac-PC  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the comment. That 6800xt will be fine until next gen. The AI boom and RDNA3 is confusing. AMD supposedly created two paths for their GPUs back in 2019. RDNA focused on gaming and CDNA focused on compute. So I am not sure if the impressive gains in compute vs not as impressive gains in games was a calculated move or more of an "Oops" moment i.e., they improved compute and didn't fully understand the impact to gaming. And will the RDNA lineup continue with focused improvements on compute in the future to help AMD ride the "AI Train"?

    Hi! Love your video! I've been thinking between 4070ti and 7900XT and went with the AMD card, because of basically bigger raw numbers i.e. VRAM, bus and such. Might replace my 5600x with 5800x3d maybe. So, uh, go team red! :)
    Also, I might be wrong here, but AFAIK 7900XT is compared to 4070ti because it's marketed as it's competitor, and 4080's marketed competitor is 7900XTX. Also, even though OCing is kinda sorta incouraged by AMD, at it's stock performance 7900XT is closer to 4070ti, so i presume that's the reason people making exactley that kind of comparison, no?

    Hi, found your channel via the RDNA2/3 performance/fps per watt video, which was really good.
    if you revisit performance per watt, could you do a game capped at 60fps / vsync (and with cards/settings that it can reach) so that you don't have the issue of performance "past" the sweet spot? (obviously this depends, but this way you have a defined target to reach, say Medium 1080p60 in a game with a built in benchmark. I like Returnal but CP2077 is kinda the standard)
    (it will require more W than typical still presumably because the game will still try to hit 60fps 0.0000001% lows lol, I have some testing on my "channel")
    also applicable to CPU fps per watt.
    also I wish there was a single fan RTX 4070 idk why there were 200W single fan 1080/2070/3060Ti(only like 2) but no 4070. And there was a "mini" 1080Ti too, 250W.

    • @yeshwantkethineni3694
      @yeshwantkethineni3694 Před 8 měsíci

      (also this doesnt even take into account undervolting / optimized voltage curves, seems like you can get at least 25% lower GPU power draw easily)
      also most people don't really care for efficiency, but I think Performance/$/W should be a more commonly used metric.
      Obviously most people aren't willing to simply pay for efficiency (4060Ti reduces power by 25% e.g.) so maybe it could be weighted differently, but considering node shrinks/density/efficiency is what computing/semi kinda is, I think it's important. Also very relevant for laptops/ITX/handhelds.
      socpk laptopgpucurve is so useful for laptop GPU performance in that sense (all the 40 series curves are simply paying for efficiency until you cross 100W with the 4080L and 4090L)

It's definitely not perfect and there are many compromises you have to make in order to get respectable frames but the juice is worth the squeeze, imo. 13900K/4090 4K DLSS Quality, Ray Reconstruction, and Frame Generation on gets me a consistent 90+fps. The game is actually very immersive and fun to play. I've had the game for a couple of years. Tried playing on my 3080ti but never got into it. For me it was hard to choose between 4070 Ti and 7900 XT, but I decided to go with Nvidia, since my previous card was also RTX and I loved DLSS and DLDSR features. AMD's FSR does not look as good as DLSS and they do not offer any alternative to DLDSR.
    7900 XT is definitely a better 4K card, but even this one often requires the use of upscaling tech in modern games. And with the use of upscaling the difference between these cards shrinks and those additional GBs of VRAM makes less sence as well.
    P. S. Overclocking GPUs usually provides the most impressive results at higher resolutions. My OCed 4070 Ti gain roughly ~10% more fps across a wide range of games (without any meaningful increase in power draw or temperatures). But in this case the gain is more even, probably because this card gains most of the performance improvement due to increased memory bandwidth.

    • @ImaMac-PC

    Just so you know TechPowerUp isn't the most accurate, as they only test the cards on release day and never check again which leaves rankings all messed up a year down the line. The RX 6700 on their site for example is slower then the RX 6650 according to them, since the RX 6650 released after it and had better drivers yet they put it in their database anyways.
    Another example is how poorly rated the RX 5700 XT is which notoriously launched with issues but its actually much faster than the cards its inaccurately put behind still.
