The famous “King Kong” scene in Training Day is easily my favourite scene in any film of all time. He won the Oscar for that one scene alone; deservedly so.

When Denzel Won the Oscar for training day they were interviewing him backstage & They asked him if he thought he was worth his salary? Suddenly Julia Roberts ran up in the middle of the interview hugged him & said congratulations and ran off. While the reporters looked dumbfounded Denzel said yes we've been friends a long time. Then he said what was your ? The reporter repeated do you think you're worth your salary? Denzel said I can say this because Julia and I are good friends so let me ask you if she was standing here right now would you have asked her that question? The reporter stood there looking stupid!

I found Denzel's performance as a vigilante in EQ to be more authentic and convincing than any of the other efforts by Keannu, Liam, Tom, Jason etc. Watching those EQ movies you believe he is as hard as that. Amazing actor

nutflixx He did have some, what I call paycheck movies. Many of these could be considered lukewarm or shall we say below his standard of quality. These were films that I know he knew were okay, i.e., movies where he did them simply for that 20 million paycheck. I am looking at you Eli, Quinn, Devil in a Blue Dress, Pelham, Out of Time, 2 Guns, Deja Vu, and maybe even Flight. These films were nowhere near his quality performances in Cry Freedom, Glory, Titans, Malcolm X, Fences, American Gangster, Training Day, Hurricane, and Crimson Tide.

My personal favorite was a play he was in on Broadway with Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, and Denzel's wife, Pauletta Washington. Ironically, even though Pauletta was an unknown at that time, I remember the way she conveyed her frustration with a simple head movement as she pointed a gun. The four of them on Broadway was a legendary moment.

Even a poor script with Denzel reading it goes a up few levels. It's still a poor script, he is onto a hiding but he can make the best of it. With another actor it would be poor.
