    So my thoughts are the rectangular scoop . Open it up & use more of its rectangular space . And the air box open that hole up more to match the now larger rectangular scoop. Use ABS plastic engine side & top side to block heat .

    I did this on my 99 manual ranger (1 previous owner with just over 100,000km on it) and it ran fine for a few days… after that, it didn’t want to start and bogged up on me. It fit symptoms of either a broken MAF sensor or something in the computer tricking it into thinking it’s receiving much more air than it was. I put the funnel back and it ran fine. If you want to try this, I would say give it a try but make sure you keep everything so you can put it back if it goes wrong.

    Good tip. I tried it on my 2010 Ranger Sport. 4.0l stick. It's quieter. And seems much more responsive from naught to 85. The snorkel does provide a fun little sound on my downshifts, but if it kills the overall performance and does nothing else beyond nifty sound then this mod is the best I've seen so far. Now if I could just get a Hurst mod.

    I did this to my 2.5L Ranger, and also bought a K&N air filter, and it's a noticable difference. I pretty much did a poor man's cold air intake. But it actually works, and it's not a hot air intake. There's no sense in spending $250-$300 for a setup, only to get maybe a 5HP bump. But ONLY if you do it in a boxed setup.

    • @Joshtheweatherman
      @Joshtheweatherman Před 2 lety +4

      Oh and another thing, it seems to be getting around 28-30 mpg, when before it was getting around 25mpg. This mod really helps especially if you use the A/C a lot. Another way to improve fuel mileage is by cleaning the map air flow sensor with only map air flow sensor spray.

    Got a 99 4 banger currently hitting 10mph 😅. Maybe I'll give this a try when replacing my air filter that's been needing replacement.
    Edit: so finally went through with the mod. I replace the stock filter with a K&N replacement model 33-2106-1. I went ahead and did this mod. Deleted the restricter tube and extended air box.
    Overall performance when up a bit. A lot more responsive.
    Sounds pretty much a same to me. Didn't notice to much of a difference.
    My gas milage definitely went up. I was getting around 10mph city/highway. Full tank of gas maybe got 240miles to a tank. If i was lucky. After the mod. Driving like an actual truck somewhat loaded bed here and there and reached 300 miles and still about 2-4 gallons left in the tank. So i should see about 315-340 miles till im bonedry. Definitely estatic with the results.
    Note I would not recommend doing this mod/ or at least running a K&N filter if you live in a hot dry dusty climate because you will allow dirt particles getting into your system.

I also installed a PVC Oil Catch Can, A remote Oil filter relocation Kit used to filter the coolant going to the Heater core and of course, replacing All the lights (headlights and dash lights too) with LED lights. Just little things that have gotten me 221000 miles on it so far. PS DO NOT USE A FRAM OIL FILTER.EVER. You RISK DESTROYING THE ENGINE IF YOU DO. So you take off a engineered piece of tubing that looks very precise and think its a good idea? I would recommend you put your scan tool on it and see how far off your fuel trim is now. I am guessing it will be running kind of lean? I would think if it needed to be bigger Ford would of made it bigger? I believe when you start messing with airflow you will need to re-tune your engine computer as well. Also get ready for people who have engine problems after this mod to come after you for $$$$

      After I did this to my Ranger, it actually runs better than it ever did. It ran like crap before. You can thank the EPA regulations for that. Even if it is running slightly lean, it's not going to hurt anything. Any fuel injected vehicle tends to run lean as they age. With carbureted vehicles, it's usually the opposite.
