Lift Your Truck for Free via a T Bar Crank (torsion bar)

- How to lift a truck. This video shows you how to lift your truck with torsion bars also known as a T bar lift.
This tbar lift is done on a 2001 Mazda B3000 / Ford Ranger. You will need an alignment afterwards because of the angle change in the suspension. Tighten the tbar screw to lift the truck, loosen to lower the truck. I got a 1.5in lift and my C/V joint angle is only at a 5 degree angle so it should be fine with minimal wear.

He sounds so much more enthusiastic in his newer videos😂
It don't seem like a Chris Fix video without the Heyyy GUYS!

He changed his recording style. in old videos, he's recording his voice as he works. in new videos, he's doing voice overs.
I prefer this, the new videos are a bit too much to listen to

I drive mine every day and use her offroad occasionally (you can watch my offroad videos "OFF ROAD in my Ford Ranger (Mazda B3000)") and it is still good after 20k miles. I didnt turn them all the way as you saw in the video so it isnt maxed. As long as you do what was done in the video you should be fine. Obviously, any time you touch something like this, you could break something if it is weak already so...

Can you drop your truck in the same way using the torsion bar?
@@mattm5051 yes
Thanks for the comment! Im glad it helped!!!
@JORDAN MCCOY, yes, it has the block on the rear from the factory!
Your truck is supposed to be lower in the front and higher in the back so when u haul something it lowers the back of the truck
Not necessary to someone who never tows anything.
TheWolverine0657 the reason trucks sit lower in the front from the factory is not for towing reasons it's for fuel mileage and better aerodynamics and older trucks sit lower from suspension sag and worn out parts
ChrisFix How did the rear get raised up above the front in the first place? Did you lift it, and if so do you have a video of how you did it?
@@lukemain4222 the back on every truck is lifted more then the front and that is for when you tow stuff then the truck isnt sagging lower then the front and it will just look leveled out, you could do an easy body lift just kind of have to put a bigger spacer under the body and it will be bigger im gonna be doing to things to my truck real soon, you can find videos on it everywhere
You can do it a few ways. On my truck it was already lifted from the factory so lifting the front balanced it out (this is the case on most factory lifted trucks). One way to lift the rear is to add an extra leaf to the leaf springs. This is typically more complicated. So the easier way is to add a block (aka spacer) between the leaf springs and where the leaf spring rests on the rear differential. They sell them and they are relatively cheap.
Do you have a specific brand or material? Some companies are switching to aluminum but im not sure the long term turn out would be. Because of the shipping problems in getting steel into the country. Or just say f it and go with rough country and save all the headache lol watched your leaf spring video. So you answered my question.
I hit send and I didn't mean to I had more to say I actually had to dial down what I did with the torsion bars so that the truck could be aligned properly and then he warned me that it was stressing out my u-joints my dog bones and everything else
Idk wtf happened, i followed your instructions perfectly and then my house blew up.
cutyou45 did you check muffler bearings? Blinker fluid?
Maybe it was the stalinium bushings
cutyou45 , did your back pressure regulater valve go out .. Thsts how my house and car blew up
cutyou45 did you put your toaster in the microwave?
That’s common in fords
Sweet! Mine has 31s on it in the video!!! Good Luck!

crazy to see his improvement, not a lot of editing or none at all during this time, more of a "tutorial" style video instead of a guide, so less enthusiasm, no intro, this is a RAW chris fix video, came a long way, love his videos and they've helped a lot, id say (at the time of me typing this) over 4.6 million others would agree, thanks chris for all you've done
Definitely which is why you only crank the bars a few times. The small lift it gives isnt enough stress to really do anything. Mine is a daily driver so I cant put a lot of stress on the suspension.
I can't believe how much you have improved on your videos 2017
great to see you working on cars with extremely simple tools. That proves the point!
It's amazing to see the early videos and see how the channel has progressed and evolved.
It was lifted from the factory but all it is are spacers. They are metal blocks that bolt onto the leaf springs and then connect them to the frame. Really easy to do. Just jack the car up, unbolt the leaf springs, add the blocks, bolt them back in.
It's kind of amazing Chris still has all these vehicles... True testament of DIY strong
Chris, would love to see more off road vids with your b3000 and perhaps some cool off road mods! Happy new year bro
Depends. What kind of lift? If you have torsion bars and they are not maxed out, it should still work...
Awesome! Glad it worked for ya!
Thanks Chris, now i can have my own Miata!
sure would like to know if you had any problems since then
+BackinOrbit, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason so I hope you see this. If you lift just the front tires, you will throw off the alighment and make your suv handle off on the highway. Plus, it might look funny if it isnt level.
chris how we could do that on small car...thanks God bless...
Larry it depends what small car and the suspension it has. You might be able to use spacers or a larger spring.
larry ofw why are you tryng to lift a car? please tell me its not for those 22"s.
Will I be able to do this to the rear end of my ruck?
+Noah Whetstine you sir shouldnt do anything to your car cuz you are a idiot
Does the explorer have torsion bars? If so, do this lift for the front. Is the rear end on leaf springs? If so, you can buy these shackles (blocks) that lift it and they are typically cheap. To give you an idea, my truck has 31s on it. I would think twice before you get bigger tires because then your speedometer will be off and you could easily be speeding when you dont mean to.
You can get lifting blocks (body lift) or a suspension lift...
Lol anyone watching this in 2023
I just done this to my ranger. and I had 33's tsl's. And now I have 35's swmpers and the T-bars made a huge difference.
How is ur suspension holding up?
Are there springs on your front suspension? It sounds like you dont have them...
Awesome! Glad to help!
Hey Chris, can't begin to tell you how much your videos haves helped me out. So, it's been a while since you cranked your T bars, any damage to the CVs or any other suspension issues? I have a 2011 ranger and have been thinking about doing this, but I don't want to damage anything... Have you been off-roading after the crank? Notice any change? Thanks man
Lauren T P I'd like to know too.
Never answered.
Lauren T P well i cranked the torsion bar on my 2002 chevy silverado years ago and so far i haven't had any problems. Been offroading, caught some air at the sand dunes and even a cross country road trip. So i would say its safe to crank yours.
I cranked the T-bars on my 99 dakota, and had a 4 wheel alighment and new tires shortly after. 10k miles later, no abnormal wear on the tires. I have had to replace both CV shafts, and wheel hub assemblies, but at 220,000 hard miles thats normal.
man evry video he gets more enthusiastic
Nice!!!! I want to get 33s but I am unsure how to get the speedometer calibrated...
Should be driven via cable to transmission. If so, you remove that cable and on the end of it you will find a small cylindrical gear. That gear is what "calibrates" your wheel/tyre revolution-to-speedo needle position ratio. You're welcome.
Is it on blocks already like this truck in the video (from the factory)? If so, just remove the blocks.
Love the videos. During the pandemic (CoVid 19) I (Dr Dan DMD) have learned so much from you regarding my Automobiles. From brake jobs to ways to properly super clean my cars you have been spot on with your detailed explanations, giving me the confidence to tackle moderately complex auto repairs. I have become a proud grease monkey. Thank You.
PS I see you using many Harbor Freight tools in the early videos. While these are not Snap-On tools I suggest encouraging hobbyists, working under the shade tree, to appreciate the affordability and versatility Harbor Freight affords when starting out.
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
Hahaha watch out dude, it will wear your cv joints when cranked that much!
Yup he's right. Not a good idea to max them out. A few turns is fine. You want more than that? Then it's time for an actual lift kit.
Thanks man!
Did you lift it? If so, try heating the bolts up!
took me 2 minutes to realize this was ChrisFix, he sounds so different
How is your truck doing after 5 years with this cheap lift? Any damage to the C/V joint?
Considering he's still driving it I'd say it went pretty well.
He still drives it and hasn’t done a repair video on the CV joints. Anytime something new breaks on his cars he makes it into a video. So pretty well so far then.
I have a 98 ford explorer what is sitting on the same frame and everything as these mazda trucks and ford rangers and I'm sure this t bar lift was prb bby barely even bringing it back to stock height. My explorer is untouched ride height wise and I still have angle in the CV joints
i had no idea i was watching chris fix 🤣
Gotcha... Do you know how to calibrate the speedometer if you dont want it off?
Also, I was able to put 33x12.50-15 toyo open country mud terrains on a 15x8 wheel

Do u have a block in the back?

This was way before I make everything as good as possible but I think you still get the idea from this video lol
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe The reason why the front is always lower than the rear is comes in to factor I believe when you have something in tow it's to keep the front end towards the ground so that way when whatever you're towing is on the back it levels out the truck
That's right
Beltmaker09 don't forget you also have a engine in front so that's also some weight
Shouldn't really be towing with trucks like these anyways.
i dont think he tows much stuff with this truck... i think the max weight it can even tow is about 1000 pounds lol so its pretty much pointless to tow with this truck anyways
@@frankybrown9273

Tilted lower in the front because the rear will squat when you use the truck for what it's supposed to be used for.

Did this when you first made the video and I’m getting ready to take it back down...
I only did it for more clearance for the bigger tires I had.
But it’s been YEARS and it worked well just the suspension is so hard 😅
And when I took it to several shops to get the front end realignment they all said they wouldn’t touch it 😂
What is a 44?
Also worth mentioning, under no circumstances should you lower a IFS vehicle without proper mods done, my 01 Explorer always sat level, and ate CV axles, I found recently that, in comparison to the wrecked 99, it was lowered 2 inches in the front, I put the front end back stock, and it hasn't needed any more axles, and it drives a lot better and looks a ton better, besides that, room for 31s, it's a solid win
wtf...who lowers an Explorer? glad you sorted that out.

All of our vehicles are going to be in great condition after all these shutdowns! I'm in Seattle, during December 2020 with a current shutdown, but Autozone is open so I'm tinkering. Painted my wheel wells and everything else with the rust reformer and the undercoating, but I hosed it all down with WD-40 and let it ride like that for a week. Went to the carwash and pressure washed wheel wells, and undercarriage twice with hot water, soap, and then rinse with hot water ✌ times. Drove home and it was dry, applied rust reformer, then waited till the next day to apply undercarriage coating. Came out better then new! nice video. But let me correct ya. you did everything correctly. but.. should make sure the tires are the right size. And treads are about the same, left to right. on the front. check air pressure, make sure the psi are equall then take measurement. And when you adjust the tordions. you want to be the same height right to left, or left to right. you don't have to make equal adjustments. Your goal is to raise the front end. and level it so your not sagging on one or the other side. best way is to crank on torsions. get it raised where you want it, and at the same time, keep it the same height from left to right, or vise versa. And if you want to get picky. then you can crank the driver side torsion a bit higher than the passenger side to compensate for driver weight. when you have a heavier driver, it will help. but it only takes about 3/8 to 1/2 inch higher. at the most.ans get the alignment done, right away.
