When the coach is rolling and telling you and someone else what the correct thing to do is as he’s doing it ….you’re gonna have a bad time 😅
That’ll humble you real quick lmao
Somehow it still never fails to amaze me to see how skilled practitioners can make it look so effortless against much larger opponents. Great video!
I’m 5’ 4” 190 lb guy. I did BJJ for 4 years quit for 18 years, came back late 2019 ish. I have been doing strictly no gi 3-4 times a week for the last 2 years now. I’m a mid level blue belt. Recently my professor started paring me with this 3-4 striped white belt, 51 year old 6’ 5”265 lb guy. He is on the edge of blue belt. What an experience and exceptional opportunity to get my technique on point. If I don’t do the technique, just about perfect, I pay for it and fast….
Those are the best kind of partners. Hold on to them while you can! The further people go, the more people quit! Great that you have him to work with mate
If u didn't quit, you'd be an OG blackbelt
@@flowerswerewarpaint646 Thanks for the encouragement. Greatly appreciated.
@@flowerswerewarpaint646 I’m a (1) striped blue belt, I got that strip in February of 2021. I was unbelievably fortunate, not knowing it at the time. Carlos Machado handed me my blue belt in May of 2002, he is a legit OG. I trained as a mediocre blue belt for about a year, got injured in front of my girlfriend, later becoming my wife. I quit because of a bad shoulder separation.
My entire life was falling apart about 3 years ago. My marriage, business, health were in the tank and I said screw it I would rather die on the mat than my bed. Today everything has turned around. My marriage is just about repaired, business is close to being sold, and I dropped 40 lbs and got jacked. Relatively speaking. I’m the healthiest I have ever been. I am 5’ 4” 185lbs and getting lean. My professor told me 2 months ago I’m up for promotion and he has been testing me and testing me, with a variety of partners, particularly this big dude. I might get stripped up, and potentially my purple at the next promotion. I’m super stoked.
@@ConveyApp Fair play man very inspiring glad to hear your life turned around, I just started 6 weeks wish I found it years ago
Getting old now, I want to be like him. His movements are so elegant.
I love all videos with Brock. It’s enjoyable to see how this stuff is supposed to work
I loved that part emphasising the under hook. Brock made going from side control to the back look so simple and effortless.
Your style of videos is excellent - commentary plus text explanation during the roll - very well thought out 👍
Always love the videos man!
Brock is an absolute beast 😂
Biggest challenge is difficult to pin right now, being so dang new to bjj, but I'll say that I have a lot of trouble rolling with bigger partners when they get me in side control. I have trouble escaping, and often revert to relying on strength, which opens me up for a submission or another bad situation 🤙
BOOM!💥 never gets old 😂 keep ‘em comin Ty 👌
Biggest challenge was staying healthy and finally getting my blue belt! Started BJJ in 2010, but after moving/university/surgeries/injuries/jobs I finally started again last June and got my blue belt in 5 months at my first real academy! Now I'm working on finishing submissions more often
Hi Tyler big love from New Zealand - Im an aged white belt doctor who never got the time to get good at BJJ (sad face). The muscles that squeeze the legs together are ADductors. those that spread them apart are ABductors. referencing approx 3:25 in the video - Thanks again you and the team are great!
Biggest issue: Starting out older (40) w/ some chronic back issues I'm trying to correct. I know injury is a possibility in endeavors like this but I'd like to avoid turning an acute issue into something severe and rack up costly medical bills.
First practical application of jujitsu I have seen in a long time
Brock seems to love what he does. It's awesome to see
Now I wanna see you rolling with Adam!
I'm always trying to remind myself to establish underhooks instead of reaching for the head when I don't have the best control and getting stretched out. This video has many great examples of underhook dominance.
That was great!
Awesome video homie
been enjoying watching Brock, looked him up and his record is really impressive!
Biggest challenge was learning to roll offense instead of defense all the time. Big game changer.
That bait was incredible. They call him the Master Baiter
My biggest challenge is the 15 years of neglecting my health. I started jiu jitsu Oct 2021 and have made huge improvements, but there's so far to go. I know it's a marathon, just sucks dealing with a bunch of constant small injuries. My gym is amazing though with support and team focused which is the only way I've kept after it.
I've been doing it 6 years now and I get injured pretty consistently still! But the more I consistently go, the less I get injured because my body gets more used to the physicalness and the more I'm able to feel when I'm about to get injured, and tap or not exert as much effort into doing something that might hurt me. keep going!! It gets easier
take it progressively my friend, find the line between pushing yourself and pushing yourself too much /too often and getting injured / micro injured. "Progressive Loading." 💜
Hip *adductors. Great vid. I loved Brock's hulk face on that last submission haha
Thank God finally something to help me understandddd
Good video guys looks like you have a great coach/leader.
In the middle of this video the thought of your…”Here’s Brock….and here’s what he is known for!” -Cue clip of Brock running around the ring videos….coupled with the respect you’re giving Brock in all videos like this….made me laugh too hard. I actually spit up on myself. I love the attitude in the gym. Bar none.
Great video! Could be ccol to see exactly how he did that straight armbar to the guy in turtle.. I love all this tricky sneaky stuff that I see on youtube . Can never make it work in the gym though XD
05:36 .....that face hahaahhahaha.. no place for softness...real prehistoric jiujitsu
wanna see more of you and prof Brock rolling, with each other or with others
Bonus bonus head is such a funny name. LOOK JIMMY I GAVE UP AN UNDERHOOK quack lol
i love your videos bro im moving back that way this summer i cant wait to get back in there and get smeshed lol!!!!
Biggest challenge is the switch from a Judo mindset to a BJJ mindset. I am a reactive player in Judo and capitalize on others mistakes, where as in BJJ I cannot do that... as I am the mistake.
I had to learn not the flatten out, don’t stay in turtle, pins aren’t wins
Love the beginning 🤣
im 1.struggling with organizing all the information in my head. should i start writing stuff down?
2. i am 31, very fit, lean and strong with a decent cardio but my sleep and recovery suck (insomnia) My tendons started hurting more and more. How do I improve my recovery if im really struggling with my sleep? Thaanks in advance and keep up the good work. amazing content.
THX!
thanks for this video! what a master. just wanted to add a small detail that could be important. The author meant to say strengthen ADuctors, not ABductors. check out adductor exercises they are great. they will also get stronger with rolling if you use them
New white belt just starting out, less then one month of training. Just wondering if you have to think when you go in the offensive or if it is just mussel memory?
Can you break down that straight armlock counter to the single leg from turtle? That was super slick
my biggest struggle has been dealing with managing my own expectations of how good i should be
Brock and the master bait. Insidious.
Brock is great doing his own commentary during the role.
My biggest issue right now is always getting hurt. My ring finger knuckle has been swollen for a few weeks and both my elbows hurt and I have warm them up in order to fully extend them.
Hey Tyler, bbj blue belt here. Been training for about 2 and a half years. I want to get really good at baseball bat chokes similar to how you got good at guillotines. Should I focus on that or should I keep focusing on escaping? What do you think?
You can't just slip a "master bait" past us
After only 4 months the hardest part is still showing up. but i never regret when i do!
Savage!
recently just stupid injuries sidelining me. I want to TRAIN!
I remember Brock Larsson in WEC,UFC and others.
I have trouble with bigger and stronger opponents but my biggest challenge is guard retention and getting out of side control.
to get out of my head when I roll and stop the OCD from telling me, dont hurt your self, dont hurt others... over and over... and overr.... .... and over....
Where can I get a good rundown on how to get the bonus, bonus head position? I've never seen this particular variation in training.
Hey, could you show us that foot bait when your partner is in turtle and transition into armlock ( or i dont what was that:) much appreciated! Btw love your videos especially with Brock
My biggest Jiu-Jitsu challenge is bringing practice me into the competition. I feel like I don't perform in competition like I do in practice.
Not a BJJ guy, but my biggest difficulty in catch wrestling and ringen (historical German wrestling) has been being the smallest guy.
I'm 5'10" 140 pounds, and I'm the most experienced, but I need it when some of my partners outweigh me by 100 pounds. There are some times where I feel like my weight is distributed perfectly, and I just get swept like I'm nothing haha. But it's a great experience, because that makes you really know when you've straddled someone twice your size in mount that you're doing a lot right.
Biggest struggle is trying to pass someone with very flexible legs who constantly uses inside senkaku to secure a heel hook. Looking for a pass other than a toreando.
My biggest struggle is timing and putting it all together. I have been training BJJ+MMA for about a year, and MMA for 6 months previously. I am usually training with people that have been training longer than me, and I am doing better; lasting longer, escaping more, getting smashed less. I also try to be offensive, but usually by the time I see an opportunity and go for it, my partner is 1 step ahead of me and defending already, or worse has baited me.
Well if your rolling or sparring with people better than you it's common to lose like any sport just foucs on how they beat you and ask them for advice and dont feel bad if your stupmed Brock isn't so good cause he was born like that it took time
Master Bait. You win the BJJ internet.
2:20 Jimmy, stop playing with your toes and pay attention to the roll.
Blue belt blues, over here. I’m almost 46. That’s my biggest obstacle. Other than that I’m finding many of the more advanced techniques require movements that are difficult for me at my age. For instance getting both of my legs in between my partners on saaaay, kiss the dragon… maybe it’s the angles I’m cutting?
finding a gym that gives a good combo for my 9 yo grey/white belt of competition practice (4-6 minute rolls from standup with good competition) and hands on positive training.
Biggest challenge has been staying injury free. A little over 3 years in and I've had separated ribs, dislocated fingers, popped elbows, separated AC joint (this one is still giving me issues 2 years later).
tap faster.
My biggest problem is dealing with size. Everyone is much bigger than me, I’m 140lb and every adult at my gym is at least 175lbs also tournaments in my area for the blue belt level are always under 160lbs for the lowest weight class. When I do find someone my size I do great.
I also do a lot of master baiting. Just not so much on the mat. Well done.
At around 3:24 you said 'abductors' when I think you meant to say 'adductors'. Abduction is the opposite motion to squeezing your hips together.
Awesome
My biggest challenge is developing my own game. I feel like I still am all over the place on what my play style is. (Newer blue belt)
It took me until about purple belt to start doing guillotines, so you have plenty of time 😀
The toughest thing I have found during my jitz career is that I keep decimating the skeletal system of my opponents and training parters. I am trying very hard to decrease my grip strength via every avenue possible…but to no avail. Do you have a solution??
Dealing with bigger opponents with buldging discs has to be my biggest challenge
"OK but let's start with me laying on my back." LOL
My biggest challenge is cardio. I'm 5'8 171lbs, I got a 4pack but def not a 6pack so I'm decent sized guy for my height. I have asthma and its allergic asthma at that so any inclosed space, like under someone for ex, is just unbearable and incredibly hard to deal with compared to other ppl. I do a ton of steady and heavy cardio but no matter what I do I can't seem to roll longer than 60mins before I'm fully and irrecoverbly gassed
Brock technically tapped...Navigating open guard has been my biggest challenge
This ACL injury is the biggest challenge I've had in bjj. I can barely walk and I know I'm probably going to go back to train. But am I crazy shouldn't I put my health first?
Heh, the good old chin drop, have hit that more than a few times before.
I am a 47 year old 2 stripe white belt. My biggest challenge by far is getting my guard passed especially by much younger and more athletic guys in the gym. I frame but I am still not able to keep them from controlling my head and in turn me. Then poor pin escapes. Love the channel.
Necromancing here, but I was having the same problem as a 35 year old guy with a lot of muskuloskeletal damage from 15 years of Soldiering rolling with 18 and 19 year olds. I simply couldn't move as fast as them. I asked my Coach about it, and he said "You don't need to move as fast as them. Slow them down or make them take you with them with your grips." Then he showed me how, and it made all the difference.
I will grab a tight sleeve grip and roll it knuckle-down to anchor it, and a same-side collar grip nice and tight. They are hard to strip, and strong enough that if they try to pull away I go with them. It really slows them down a lot. The other go to that I like a lot is going two-on-one with a sleeve grip and pinning their hand to the matt, using it as a pivot point to spin around to their back or flank on the same side.
That's my "Slow-Guy Jiu Jitsu"
I'm gonna study these rolls like they're my bible
Was there much pressure in that armlock, or did they break way before the arm broke? A restricted sport thang rather than a martial art dang.
hey mate im a white belt heavyweight main thing i have trouble with apart from being overweight and having less mobility than other ppl on the mats would be staying calm on bottom against team mates of similar skills and not using strength when im tired
if i roll with someone a belt abobe me i usaully roll hard but stay calm most of the time and just work things maybe an ego issue i have to work through i always feel like im being watched and i feel i have to win which defiently hinders my ability to get better which im trying to work on alot osss
That Master Bait though.... 1:25
My biggest challenge is the stand-up portion of grappling. I'm a smaller guy, so those big strong dudes just destroy me on the feet. It is what it is.
really good commentary live while going on.. excellent.. amazing coach to commentate while in a high intensity situation
Never seen Brock move so much.
Passing the gaurd
🔥
Fun engaging vid~~
What is your biggest bjj challenge?
Me 2 months into jiu jitsu: yes
Biggest challenge is rolling with larger opponents, I usually get my hips stuck
your old stuff is so much better than what you are doing now.
When I do a jiu jitsu pilgrimage someday I hope to have brock beat me up
Biggest challenge is as being a wrestler for 10 years I always show my back to my opponent I'm working on tho
My biggest problems in general are flexibility, gas tank, and remembering the details necessary to finish a submission
Also I just recently realized that one of my favorite side control positions only works on people smaller than me. I thought I had good control but when the big guys returned to the gym they could all just sit up and push me away.
What side control position?
@@NoBody-ro3xj My head is pointed to their feet, usually because they have a strong straight arm frame keeping me away..
I use my arm closest arm to control their hips by pinching their whole waist in a shotgun grip, my closest knee is on/by their shoulder to prevent them from turning in to me and I'm using my opposite foot as a base to push against them (think 90-90 hip stretch position)..
The knee on the shoulder keeps small guys pinned but big guys will just do a sit up and knock me over with their frame
@@MannyMuskets word I got you
@@MannyMuskets are they just sitting up straight like a sit up or are they bridging diagonal into you? If they are bridging do they generally open up for a spinning arm bar from that position?
@@NoBody-ro3xj they do a technical stand up
No angry professor.
jimmy laying down all cute like
PROFESSOR GETS ANGRY !!!! Why the dishonesty ?? I love these videos !! Why mislabel them ?? EXTREMELY ANNOYING !!!!
My foot gets stuck in quarter guard.
Jimmy looks majestic AF 😂
My bigest Challenger was coming to new city and it was hard because in My city it was justo one gym and every body were kind, but in this new cité many gyms just roll too hard, so it was hard use to that, i'm trying to be more tecnical, in that way i'll be able to be a better bjj player, but well See i Guess.
i come from a wrestling background and so getting comfortable on bottom was the hardest transition for me
🔥🦈🔥
Surprised to see Chuck, The Iceman, Lidell let himself go so much... Good to see him watching the match 👍🏼
Edit 4 question: My body healing slowly... I started at 38.
