This isn't a song...it's a prayer. I woke up with this song in my head for some strange reason, and as I usually do with a "waking song" I listened to it on the way in to work. Never really knew the words, but found This version first and really paid attention to the lyrics. Before I knew it, my eyes were blurry with tears thinking of my first born. She's such a great person with a genuinely good heart. And I love her to the point of embarrassment. She'll be 30 this year and married soon. But she'll always be my Baby.
It was May, 1997 and I was setting up sound for the S. Carolina Special Olympics at a large outdoor stadium. The featured singer was running very late and I needed to dial in vocals. I was behind the curtain hooking up wireless mic systems. Told my buddy to play any bumper song and dial in my voice. He played Wonder and I sang it. All of a sudden my buddy pulled the curtain open and pointed to the front of the stage. A couple of hundred athletes had arrived and they were dancing. When I finished the song they started walking up and hugging me. I hugged dozens of them and told them I was sorry, but I had to finish setting up and waved at them. They all cheered and clapped as I went back to wiring things. It is a moment that I think of when things go sideways and I feel lost. Those athletes gave me a beautiful memory that inspires me to just keep on going and I am their biggest fan forever.

She won gold 🥇❣Macky🦋 was a WONDER herself❣She was born "normal" it was a brain tumor and ALL the treatments that saved her life at 1yr old that caused her to be Developmentally delayed. She went through SO many procedures BUT accomplished SO much in her 22yrs than most of us do in a lifetime❣ One day when I'm ready, I will share her story. It's been 2 years since she passed and my son & I are grieving her tremendously💔. Oh the AMAZING stories I can tell about her. I was born 3 months premature and the doctors said if I somehow survived I would be severely retarded and I would never walk and talk and they sent me home to die but yet 34 years later I'm still here and the doctor who delivered me thought I had died and when he heard I was still alive he said man I have to see this. Now I am setting records at videl games. I've had y3 surgeries. Even then I am still amazing.
To have the vision and guts to predict your own fate at such a young age with such certainty is truly moving. Some of the best verses ever written. This coming from a 50 year old oilpatch worker in Alberta, Canada that has heard this song a million times but just recently heard it for what it was instead of it just floating innocently through my consciousness. I heard this song on TV that night....with patience and with faith, my 27 year old daughter was valedictorian and is in art school. She has high functioning autism but is clearly making her way.
