    The Chevy Corvette looks good at seventy years old. Now a mid-engine sports car, it keeps a big, American V8 engine behind the seats, rather than in front. Performance is better than ever, with a zero to 60 mph sprint coming on in less than three seconds. But how is the Corvette as a winter sports car? Chevrolet fitted this one with winter tires for New England, and Cliff Atiyeh sees just how much heat he can enjoy from that powerful V8.

    Not available in a manual transmission is a deal breaker for me. It’s lazy driving & sad. I get that it’s more marketable as an automatic, but one should at least have the option especially at the $80k+ price mark. I also would have loved to see an anniversary model that really pay homage to the classics & it’s history. I do like the styling but a refined & updated version of the classic body style would’ve been cool. Being a mid engine now, the signature side vents are now behind the door & look more like sound holes from sub boxes, lol! 70 freaking years, give me a STINGRAY CORVETTE with nostalgia & modern accents. Maybe if I got to drive one I’d change my mind. I’m currently an Audi driver because American cars have become so lackluster & not made for someone who really can DRIVE!

    GM stopped producing an icon, a classic that has been manufactured since 1953, that is, a car with its own identity to manufacture what now? A bizarre copy of LaFerrari. This is unfortunate. The Chevrolet Corvette died. Since GM likes to copy Ferrari, GM could copy the Ferrari Omologata or Ferrari Roma and thus re-manufacture the Classic Corvette with an engine in the front as it always has been. Mid-engine Corvette is the same as a front-engined Porsche 911, in other words, ridiculous.

      @thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 Před rokem +4

      Nope, Chevy has had its own racing program for decades now. GM BENCHMARKED a 458, and GMs product is far better and cheaper. The idea that benchmarking is something new is ridiculous. The car has literally eliminated a complete USED SPORT CAR market for consideration. The question is WHO would buy a USED 458 OVER A C8? You simply must like lesser cars or want to wear a 458 like some man purse.

    • @avaliacarros7739
      @avaliacarros7739 Před rokem +3

      @@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 I wouldn't have anything against the Corvette C8 if GM had deigned to respect the car's traditional consumers and kept the traditional front-engined Corvette also in production, a sort of Corvette Classic. The two models could coexist naturally, each in its own space. And my favorite isn't even the C7 Stingray. My favorite is a previous generation C6, I think that car is beautiful.

    • @sprezzatura8755
      @sprezzatura8755 Před rokem +4

      As a former C1 and C3 owner I totally understand your point of view. As good as the earlier cars were, Corvette was getting a reputation as a pipe and slippers dad car. Porsche went mid-engine with the Boxster and Cayman, knowing full well that was a superior drivetrain arrangement. But they kept the 911 around because of the cult following it still enjoys today. So they ended up detuning the Boxster and Cayman so as not to outshine the Granddaddy 911. Corvette had to evolve and as noted above Chevy did in fact benchmark the Ferrari 458. I've driven both cars and I would pick the C8 all day long. We can expect a hybrid in full Electric versions using this platform. This was an ace move considering how twitchy environmental regulators are these days. Chevy's playing a long game. I'm just happy GM didn't kill off the Corvette altogether. The bean counters lost and the engineers won. Well done! Try the C8 and I can assure you it will be a come to Jesus moment. And it's true: who in their right mind would buy a used Ferrari 458 with its astronomical keeping costs and honestly inferior engineering over a brand new C8? Don't know if you've been to a Ferrari dealer but it is not a pleasant experience. Ford spanked Ferrari once with the gt40. Now it's Chevy's turn!

    • @avaliacarros7739
      @avaliacarros7739 Před rokem +1

      @@sprezzatura8755 I trust you when you say the C8 is a good car. But like the Porsche 911, GM could have kept the Corvette Classic with a front engine. As for the hybrid or electric or electrified Corvette, I have to disagree. Let's continue talking about Porsche when it has just opened its first e-fuel factory in Chile, a synthetic fuel based on Hydrogen. I have to tell you that Porsche will be happier as long as GM continues to imitate TESLA by producing only 100% electric cars. GM is going to go down the same hole as TESLA soon, which lost 70% of the company's value in the last year by betting on 100% electric cars and the mess of Elon Musk buying Twitter. Toyota already tests a Yaris, a Corolla and a Corolla Cross that burn hydrogen instead of gasoline. Cummins already sells trucks that burn hydrogen instead of diesel. The future is in hydrogen-based synthetic fuels. This path that GM is following in imitation of TESLA and its 100% electric cars will lead GM to a single clear and certain destination: bankruptcy.
