I saw this tour in Seattle when I was 16. Bright Eyes was and still is everything to me and I am so grateful to relive the memory of my first BE concert through this video! Thank you thank you thank you.
Because of a bad heroin addiction, I missed seeing this tour live. I regret so much. All the money I had went into my veins. Such a waste of time. Great way to fall behind, lose respect of those you cared about and hate yourself more than you already did before.. realizing how stupid it was to think you had the cure but that temporary fix never really helped once your body become fixated on that dirty powder. Went through many years of hell but I can now say I’ve been clean from heroin for 10 years, accept for a 1 month relapse a few years back after my dad passed away. No excuses it’s just the reality. These days I’m still “broke” (but that’s because I have an apartment and bills so I probably couldn’t afford a ticket) but at least I’m not sick, trying to pawn something for a passing feeling. It’s nice not having to worry about getting arrest or overdosing. Now I’m going back to listen to all the albums that came out during those years I was addicted. It’s like hearing them again for the first time. Some of the lyrics make me laugh remembering how deep I thought they were back then but that makes me smile. Conor’s music came to me just when I needed it most in high school. I’ll almost appreciate Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse and Bright Eyes for helping me get through some awful times. Music is beautiful - especially live 🌻
Nice dude. I’m 3 and a half years off shooting dope. It’s so much better not having to rely on that shit no matter how good it felt at first. Funny thing is Connor was a big time junkie around this time.
My favorite album ever created..I deeply wish there was a time machine so that I could've gotten to see this live...also, "take it easy (love nothing)" is the grandest song for deeply sensitive people to teach them not to be so damn sensitive so that we can survive life
For me, this album in particular..and is doing it right now Very thankful for his existence as it's helped many others continue and continue to exist with this exhausting emotional pain that at times seems like there's no reason for
@@danimaverick801 I confirm : this album is brilliant, a mix of I don't know what between electronic, pop, rock, whatever. It remains unmatched in Conor's discography because of the idiosyncrasy it is. I can listen & listen to it without any boredom, which is very very rare !
My god.. I believe in symmetry: Excellent. Epic. Strong. Almost every song brings a tear to my eyes, the lyrics and instrumentation blend into such beauty.
Kid's a genius. I know he's not a kid anymore... why the f is j lo performing during super bowl halftime when there are talented musicians out there? If you put every band name in the country in a hat you'd pull better than Shakira and J Lo. Shakira and j lo could have made out, then lit themselves on fire and it'd still be of no entertainment value or cathartic & or artistic release. Their presence in the industry is the reason people talk trash about big major record labels. They're Tastless with a constant and misguided attempt to appeal to all audiences. We deserve more credit than that. Show us art. I try to write and play. Watching this is a paradox. Should i quit cuz my shit sucks in comparison or should i be inspired to get better and push against all odds? I guess i make and perform art as therapy and expecting anything more is outrageously selfish and such a self-glamorizing ideation and shear impossibility that it's plain wasteful and self-abusive. "I hate myself and want to die." - Kurt Cobain aka Curt Kobain, Simone Ritchy, Bill Bailey, The voice of his generation, ect...
I saw this tour back in 2005 in Austin, TX. First time I ever saw Bright Eyes. I had never listened to the Digital Ash album before I saw them, but I was a big fan of everything before this. Watching this show changed my life. Best show ever.
this album was definitely their most experimental and musically bizarre. those syncopated drum lines are simply amazing...throughout the whole album/show.
I love watching him live, he behaves on the stage in a very specific way but it is adorable. He's got mystery in himself. His connection with music allows you to move there with him and swim in the music.
@@anyghost Neely O'Hara is titled after the character Neely O'Hara from the original chick lit novel, ‘Valley of the Dolls’. The novel tells the stories of three women working in the entertainment industry, each affected differently by the spotlight and how they are perceived as people, and the influence of being in the public eye causes enormous damage to all three characters- one who comes close to wrecking her life, another who takes her own life, and Neely, whose life is left a wreck. Predominantly addicted to sleeping pills, Neely is also given stimulating addictive pharmaceuticals she calls ‘dolls’. Her life becomes reliant on the ‘dolls’- she can’t sleep without a pill and can’t get through the day without another one. She takes them recklessly, and by the end of the book she has lost her sense of self entirely, and destroyed her dreams of being a famous star by means of drug-addled behaviour and impulsivity. Therefore, this song is clearly an explanation of an affinity that Conor feels with the character, in that he can relate to the physical and cogntive and emotional changes that take hold as one becomes more dependent on pills..... i didnt write this, found on the internet.

One of the best shows I ever saw. The Faint opened for them that tour. When the Faint were listenable or maybe I grew up a little. It's funny how people's key is the more professional and mature version of this record's music style.
Lucky! That would've been a killer double act, not to mention completely congruent. Just curious, what's your take on People's Key? More professional-sounding for sure, yet not nearly as compelling imo. The moody, electronic-leaning sounds tied to grim wordplay made for a beautiful union on Digital!
Yes I liked people's key. I've been listening to Conor's music for 14 years now. And just like my dad is with jimmy buffet. (He can't do no wrong lol) I find myself always justifying any record he's ever made. Peoples key is just a perfect blend of deep lyrics and crisp music making. Ladder song and jejune stars are awesome. It's just amazing how he keeps finding something to sing about.
Moved to Kansas City in late 2005 and drove to Omaha for that show. It was such a different experience. Night and day. There have been a dozen incarnations of Conor Oberst since I started watching him. From Christmas duets with his dad to angsty punk rock shows with the Desaparecidos, Joyce Manor, & Brand New, to being backed by a grand piano and the LA Philharmonic in white suits and roses on their lapels, to cowboy boots clap along rootsy Americana. But this...this was the best. This was his Postal Service. And what you didn't see was that amazing backing band included a four piece orchestra and completely redid The Faint's music with live instruments too. It was unbelievable and impossible to explain other than it was the closest thing you can feel to complete musical ecstacy

Goddamn over a decade later and I still remember every single word, and the feelings that go along...
Crazy the things we hold onto..
And by decade I mean it’s gotta have been At Least a decade since I’ve listened to this much Bright Eyes
Bright eyes was my go to during junior year of high school. Helped with the depression.
That's how You know it was really special and meant something. Also..same:)
