  • On the latest episode of Patriot Act, Hasan takes a look at the history and politics behind one of the biggest sports in the world: cricket. With billions of fans scheduled to tune into the upcoming 2019 Cricket World Cup, Hasan examines how the game has evolved from a sport of British colonizers into a tool of diplomacy and a force for good despite recent scandals and corruption. Hasan also explores how cricket has especially grown in India due in part to the creation of the IPL, a flashy professional cricket league founded by the infamous Lalit Modi, and how that expansion has unfortunately come at the expense of the growth of cricket in other countries.

      You know that every word hasan said was a lie. A private company started ICL and told ICC we won't pay you anything so ICC told BCCI to start their own cricket league so cricket boards of other countries and ICC can make money. The monkey gate is a fake incident and happened when bcci was poor. The indian guy said something about the Australian's mother in hindi and he heard monkey. This was the same match when there were over 20 wrong decisions in favor of Australia. The umpires were looking at Australian captain before giving decisions.

    Afghanistan's rise is truly inspiring. 40 years ago, they had never heard of the game. And the first time they learnt to play was in the refugee camps of Peshawar, as they fled the Soviet invasion of their country. Where Pakistan didn't play a home game in ten years because of terrorism, Afghanistan are yet to play their first. And yet, in spite of all that, in spite of the lack of a solid domestic structure, in spite of the threat from extremist groups, today they are a Test side.

      They have a very short attention span. They can't appreciate beauty of cricket. I feel shorter version of cricket is indeed more captivating but it has only become batsman's sport. People who think it is boring dont see beauty in a dominating bowling attack. Test has always been supreme of all the three formats and it will always be. Its more like mumble vs lyrical rapping, new gen with short attention spans cant understand six to eight minutes of a good lyrical rap so they listen to shit like guuci gang

    • @montysaini8602
      @montysaini8602 Před 3 lety +17

      @Ahan Chopra okay that is your opinion. But I still hold on to my opinion. Classics are always classics. Other teams can also start playing test cricket. No one is stopping them to. And you can play new cricket as well. I don't know your age friend but you seem to be less than twenty five years at least and you have short attention span for sure. It's not your fault you can't understand how powerplays have changed bowling for worse. Can you name any of bowlers from this gen who can claim themselves to be better than mcgrath, wasim, waqar, shoaib etc ? Only thing that this gen of cricket made better is fittnes and flexibility and I greatly love that but bowling has degraded for sure. You might not notice because you are from different gen and you only like batsmen hitting balls out of the park. You may think of me as old gen but it is what it is. I like equal contest between bat and ball and enjoy class more than explosiveness.

    • @montysaini8602
      @montysaini8602 Před 3 lety +10

      @Ahan Chopra haha fear you dont know what fear is. The last time I remember someone bowling with agression was when Amir was bowling to watson in a world cup match some four five years back. I dont remember exact specifics of that but you can check watson and amir you will find thst spell. Not saying that Amir was best of his gen but he sure had that fire which could have made him terrific bowler. Aur aajkal to waise hi kisi ek team mai mushkil se koi ek ya do khatarnaak bowlers hote hain. Australia, Pakistan aur West Indies ka nineties ka bowling attack dekhna dost tab pata lagega terrific bowling kya hoti tha. Bina helmets ke jab bouncers aati thi na muh pe. Us zaamane mai batting aur bowling mai contest hota tha, naa ki hard hitting ka contest. Odi fir bhi acha format hai yaha bowlers ko apni skill dikhaane ka time aur mauka milta hai.

For example chess, classic chess ke alawa ab blitz chess bhut popular ho raha hai kyoki wo log bhi paanch-che ghante ke match nahi dekh sakte. This story of Indian cricket actually began decades ago. Indian Cricket in the 70's and early 80's were just underdogs and had the least power in the cricket world. They were ridiculed a lot by the other cricketing nations for having a really bad team... But the 1983 Cricket World Cup changed everything... A young Indian team with a not so experienced captain named Kapil Dev, was sent to England to play the World Cup. They weren't expected to win the tournament because India have never won even a single game in the previous World Cups. They literally were sent just as a formality of participation. Then, a miracle happened because of the sheer confidence of that team and they ended up defeating the reigning champions of cricket, The West Indies in the Finals. India became the first country in the world to lift the World Cup apart from the West Indies. All the vengeance that the Indian Cricket Board had towards the people who bullied the underdog Indian Team resulted in the BCCI dominating the Cricketing World within a single decade. It's literally a rags to riches story in which the underdogs proved themselves against the bullies, and eventually ended up as bullies themselves.

      Someone once came up with the following, very straightforward explanation of the game:
      You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
      When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
      When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!
      I hope this clears it up for you haha

ICC can do that but most countries don't care for cricket, you would need 10s billions to change a country's sports demographic.
