- On the first new episode of Patriot Act in 2019, Hasan addresses the government of Saudi Arabia's legal demand to take down an episode of the show in that country, and turns his focus to another country with restrictive censorship laws: China. But by using the Internet, Chinese activists are making their voices heard and a determined #MeToo movement may be creating lasting change.

@@sakiracadman5673 first of all, if you are pursuing comedy, I wish you nothing but the best.
Secondly, the point of this show is to be political satire. That's the format they have chosen akin to Last week tonight. If it isn't your cup of tea however, I can understand your distaste for this.
@@pegasusdrive12 His basic plot every episode is to push a bias progressive political agenda using the following steps:
1. Identify someone that disagrees with agenda to push
2. Perform character assassination on this person usually using out of context information not relating to the topic.
3. Once the characters reputation is sufficiently discredited. Pull an interview on the topic out of context using cut scenes.
4. End episode with some nonsense of moral high ground.

For those who don't get it, "I'm willing to be a vegetarian for the rest of my life" is a phrase from a popular TV drama where the empress made the pledge in exchange for the emperor to die. It became a meme to express disdain against the president, hence the ban.
For better understanding: to practice being vegetarian has cultural/religious connotations among the Chinese - one can wish for something or blessing, and in exchange pledge to be a vegetarian for a period of time, or for life. Apart from monks, this is considered an act of devotion for Buddhists. For example some Chinese might practice a full vegetarian day on the first day of Chinese New Year, as respect to Buddha and for good karma. Many may not know this but eating beef is also prohibited for some Chinese Buddhists who worship Goddess Guan Yin and eating it could be considered bad karma. If you're interested to find out more I'd suggest to Google it.
Interestingly, calling someone a "vegetarian" in Chinese also has a colloquial meaning. It's used to describe someone who is soft, gentle, sometimes even "weak" - to liken someone as gentle and passive as a monk. It can also be used to describe someone who isn't married or hasn't been seen dating anyone. However this is by no means a description of someone's sexuality.
As a sidenote regarding religion/culture, far as I know, devout Hindus would also practice being vegetarian for certain days of the week and/or on auspicious days.
Damn, I never knew that. Thanks for the info!
Now I need to know which Chinese drama had the famous line
I think it's amazing that Hasan and his team are bringing up stories that deadass most of us would've never heard of otherwise. Like, thank you. Seriously
Really? I thought everyone knew by now that china censors everything to hide their human rights violations. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Phourc Yeah but I doubt a lot of people know about specific cases such as these you know
@@Phourc Censorship in China is a given for anyone with half a brain , yet most of us do not know of the detail of these censorship wars and Hassan does a pretty good job at giving us a more comprehensive report on those subjects than most of the mainstream media . Most Americans are so self centered (of late understandably so given the perils at home) they tend to ignore the very existence of dissidents abroad
Next they need to cover how France has enslaved 11 countries in Africa since the second world war by imposing a currency and keeping 80% of the African countries revenue as colonial tax. That is the one thing that no media dares to talk about because every one loves France. Still waiting for a single high profile media company to say anything about this.

I’m first generation Chinese American, and every time I bring up Tiananmen Square, my parents deny that it ever happened. I was shocked when they reacted like that. They are both very patriotic, and don’t like it when me and my sister bring up these problems. It’s honestly frustrating because they are not lacking in information, but instead refuse to believe it.
Because they have been brainwash by China's state own media. If you were convince everyday that China is good and Western media are trying to brainwash people with fake news, of course it will be hard to change their mind. The problem is not about not enough information. It is about who to believe. And since most natural born citizen are patriotic about their country that are known for censorship. Of course they will side with their country.
@@johnadam3619 actually no, when a country reaches unity and independence after CENTURIES of civil war and foreign intervention, most of the population ought to support the government that did this.

This was super informative and interesting. I love that Patriot Act talks about these kinds of things you wouldn’t usually hear about from mainstream news.
Don't worry if they block you.. worry if they invite you over.
Very much this.
I am from saudi and I say this. This guy will get sliced if he comes to Saudi😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Hasan's is a documentary peppered with humor, which makes it informative, powerful and fun.
We need more people like him.
I dont find it funny at all, his jokes are kinda lame imo
He is flop comedian 😅😅😅
I hope you liked the indian elections episode
@@india-russia6064 Russia is a flop country 😂
If you ever felt useless in your life, just remember that there was a guard who somehow let a blind man escape from his watch.
It’s so weird that they still cant get his name right on tv
I always hear 'Clown Prince of Saudi Arabia' rather than 'Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia'.
Mostly from muslim i think

Lmao you're more right than you know
The Me Too part almost made me cry. I teach mostly female college students in China and hearing that so many of them, statistically, have probably endured sexual assault kills me.
The Chinese government and how the people react to it is very strange. I lived in China about 15 years ago and one of the defining characteristics of any city was the honking of car horns. People honked at *everything.* My family and I went back to visit a few years ago and there was *no honking ANYWHERE.* We asked some people about how the government was able the honking; they looked at us like we were nuts to not understand and said "They put up signs." Despite asking multiple people multiple times, no one said anything more. I honestly believe that that is all they did. No crazy rise of people getting fined or going to jail for honking or anything... but only because everyone knew that *would* happen if they didn't follow the signs.
China bad because they follow traffic rules🙄
This information is a treasure trove...thanks Hasan and team Netflix
Watch here from China by vpn. My Weibo account was disabled for my mentioning constitution amendment in one comment! So tired of CCP.
marco shawn why did you mention it then? You deserve it ! You are the enemy of China
On January 2019, 2 of my Weibo account have been banned. I guess because i mentioned Taiwan issue and Emperor Xi, and someone reported my comment. It's becoming more and more dangerous to speak online. Everyone is doing self-sencorship before posting...Bloody CCP!!!
Kudos to all the women in China for fighting such way.
@Ameya Naik watch the video
When Chinese nationals abroad say "they don't know", it is likely one of the two:
1. they actually have opinions, whether extreme dissenting opinions against CCP values or otherwise, but they feel safer keeping themselves silenced. I've heard that a Chinese student was asked to criticise the CCP as part of their assignment but he refused and did the exact opposite. The prof said that he'd have to fail him and he hinted that it was better than risking his life.
2. they are actually so perfectly brainwashed and trained that they genuinely believe everything they've been indoctrinated. Skewing facts in history textbooks to favour a ruling party is not China's specialty; it happens in many places too.
But the scarier part would be when they are so trained to uphold patriotism that they verbally attack and confront individuals of other nationalities for dissenting opinions. 1 Chinese student asked another: What would you do if you saw a HK person protest in front of this building (ie. this is not in China, Taiwan or HK). When the response was he'd leave the student to do whatever he wants, the student got worked up and critcised the person for not doing "what's right" and that he should go and tear the placards down and stop the protester even if it's a one-man protest.
Dayum.
Wow, never using netflix again. I can't believe they pulled that episode
That’s the sigh of a thousand A minuses.

I am an African woman with mixed kids and yes my kids get that sigh and I even found my son hiding his grades once.... coz he knew I would guilt trip him. Yes he knows the sigh

The plight of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang province of China is the story most unheard of. Read about it if you see this comment!
Ironically, the issue came up some years ago in Canada thanks to a Uyghur circus performer Aygul Memet who competed on a TV talent show. czcams.com/video/nlVKKG0vJQ4/video.html
There's reporting about it on Democracy Now!
I heard about this from a Guantanamo Documentary. A few Uyghut people were on their way to Turkey (fleeing China), got caught up by the US and were sent to Guantanamo. They were released under Obama if I‘m not mistaken and Albania took them. The documentary showed that China had made several requests to Albania to hand them out as they were seen as criminals, if I‘m not mistaken because they were politically active in their communities or because they fled the country.
I had no idea there were muslims living in China and that they were apparently mistreated there
Do the Hui live in an area with tremendous resources? Are they sufficiently numerous to claim to have some control over them?
McK Ode Don't make ignorant comments please.
1. Non Kashmiris can't buy properties in Kashmir.
2. Electricity, water, fuel, food etc is subsidised up to 90% in Kashmir and the Indians from rest of India are bearing the brunt for it by paying taxes for their well being.
3. Kashmir is the only place where no service tax is levied, especially for a state which is stable only because of tourism, Central government doesn't get any revenue from Kashmir and its entirely utilised for the state unlike any other state in India.
4. There's videos on CZcams and newspaper articles by Pakistani media where Ex Prime Ministers and Army chiefs have accepted to promoting funding and training of UN sponsored terrorist organisations like Lashkar e Taiba and Taliban for preserving their geopolitical strategic depth policy in both India and Afghanistan.
5. Kashmiri youth in India is unemployed since there are no major industries in Kashmir, so there's rampant unemployment. There's a constitutional restriction which doesn't allow for ease of business to Indian companies and MNC's. The Kashmiri populace is poor since they have no source of income and so the young misguided radicalised youth picks up guns against the Indian military at the behest of Pakistan paying them huge sums of money to carry out terrorist attacks in Kashmir killing both Indian military and Kashmiri people.
6. Just within a week, paramilitary forces of both India and Iran were killed by Jaish e Mohammed and Jaish al Adl respectively and both its leaders enjoy great support both from the Pakistani army and the local Pakistani people. 40 Indians and 27 Iranians were killed in suicide bombings and ewe attacks have been proudly claimed to have been carried out by both the organisations through video messages sent to both governments.
7. Like many young Muslims in the west, many Muslims in the Indian subcontinent especially Pakistan are getting radicalised at an unbelievable pace into Wahhabism and it's catching up in Kashmir as well now unfortunately.
I have lived in Kashmir for 6 months over a period of 2 years and I can tell you that the people there only want peace. Yes there are few people who want a separate sovereign Kashmir state not wanting to be with either India or Pakistan, but most of them just want to earn a livelihood and live in peace.
Any person who's visited India will know that Indian people are in general peaceful people. Mosques all across India call for prayer at 4 AM every morning on loudspeakers. If Hindus or Christians or Sikhs were so Anti Muslim we'd have stopped all that. Everyone except Muslims are allowed to marry than once and that's because Muslim personal laws are not respected in India. Muslim countries like Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have banned the Muslim call for prayer in all their mosques and Muslim men in Tajikistan can't even grow beards!
We want a secular society with democratic values and we have been so for the last 72 years so far. The moment Pakistan sponsored cross border terrorism stops in Kashmir Indian para-military will be out of there. It's only stationed there because of security concerns.
I'm surprised Saudi Arabia even had Netflix.
Lol we have everything in saudi arabia trust me
Well, you have to allow them, otherwise people would be curious and start to use VPN, which gain people's access to their real threat
They have everything lol

Nothing happened in china in spring of 1989. Now please return my family.
what happened to your family? many people died on june 4th 1989 even though not as many as the western media claim and not where they claim it happened, but people died. it might seem funny to some people, and it might be a convenient talking point for all sorts of political reasons, but many who lived through that movement, have reassessed and changed their position on that event. indeed, hundreds of lives have paid for 30 years of stability in china that have allowed the present prosperity. i hope, i'll live to see the day the cpp government feels confident enough to reopen this chapter in history and gives it due recognition
What happened?
@@adventuretales5467 and where did you get your "facts" from?
@Uddipan Mondal nah
@@kongkong1364 you guys have access to Google and CZcams. And still remain clueless? At this point it's willful ignorance at work.
One thing that Hasan didn't touch upon but is relevant here is that the unintended consequence of the one child policy is that most families chose to have boys. Thus, there is a serious gender imbalance in that generation. Combine that with global trends towards less women choosing to marry and have children. China has a serious problem, hence the push to marry girls off and have many babies. The gender imbalance makes things even more dangerous for young women in China. It also puts them in a powerful position as China can't afford to alienate that entire generation. Pretty sure that's why they're making movement on this.
It's most of Asia or east and south Asia. They prefer boys, I am from India, the thing about girls is their family has to pay for everything and we love marriage for some apparent reason. That's why people used to abort girls thinking they were a liability, the groom's family didn't pay for anything and you need to give gold and stuff. So now it's illegal to know the gender of your child here before birth. In metropolitan areas it has reduced but we have to still get better
We need this show to continue , Hassan is a legend

Wait.... IT'S THE CHINESE DAREDEVIL!!!!
HOW is there a segment about a blind lawyer escaping arrest and no Daredevil jokes??
OMG! Such a missed opportunity.
Not everything is about comic-books and superheros in universe!
Need I spell that out?
Totally missed opportunity for a Birdbox challenge joke!
I was waiting for that the whole time!
RedF0xtail- Oh My God that’s actually hugely funny. Especially if you get the joke. Props!
When one of the feminist five so confidently said that their words against her sexual orientation didn’t matter, I legitimately started to tear up. So much respect to this woman and her boldness

That "ohhhhh" from the audience when Hasan talked about "leftover" women, man it hit me. What the fk is wrong with people/society being ok with shaming women for being single. fk that.
This is a great episode & an eye opener in understanding how China operates in suppressing dissent. Happening now in my home city of Hong Kong.
Great to have the show back, keep up the good work Hasan and the writers!
That activist girl is the real feminist gangsta.
@bye girl India is pretty good.It has a lower homicide, kidnapping, rape, abuse rate for women than US and UK.Sex selective abortion is a problem but violence against them isn't.
Wow. This is the first time I've ever seen GOOD NEWS at the end of an episode!
Really can't believe he didn't make a Daredevil pun with the blind lawyer, despite his knowledge of marvel heroes.
