Easily the most exciting thing they showed. It feels like a genuinely confident step forward rather than just chasing the past.

1:49, you have no idea how this theme imprinted to my head since I was a kid, I will pop in the Silent Hill 1 disc into my PS1, and I'll let the menu cinematic to play on its own and watch through the whole thing with this iconic music, I do it every single time before I start playing the game. Precious memories.
I love that they twisted it just enough in this trailer to evoke the same feeling but still feel even eerier

No one is ready for this. Ryukishi is a horror writing savant. His art is perfect for silent hill and I'm so beyond excited to see how he decides to work with the world of Silent Hill!

The "world of Silent Hill" begins with burning of Alessa, and consists of one US town, Silent Hill. What Japan esthetics have to do with it is beyond me. This looks like a Siren game with slapped Silent Hill name for recognition.
@@sunderland666 Well, they already broke that rule in Silent Hill 2... (Nothing to do with the first game) Then again in 4 and so on... Basically they never really stuck to Alessa's story except for SH3, but there Silent Hill wasn't a real town as far as I remember.
@@Mikumo91 I don't care about Alessa story so much, but Silent Hill itself is a place that either takes place in the game or the story is related to it. Dark, mysterious town with it's mystic powers. As much as I love Japanese atmosphere, the town has nothing to do with Japan or it's esthetics.

I'm a bit weary about the other stuff, but I'm 100% on board with this. This teaser was excellent and seeing that Ryukushi is involved with this made me 10x more excited.

If this turns into an anthology series, things will be looking up for Silent Hill. Props to you, Konami.
Silent Hill was always an anthology series. 1 and 3 were directly connected, but the other games in the series were isolated incidents not connected to one another except for the town and some of the creatures. This new one breaks away from the American setting in favor of 1960s Japan, which is a pretty curious yet welcoming approach. Should be interesting to see how this turns out, though.
Yeah. It did seem that way after remembering the previous titles. Nevertheless, I am curious about Silent Hill F and I can't wait to see more of it next year.
I'm not a fan of horror games (i'm too scared) but this and townfall have me willing to make the plunge.

I am not from Japan so I did a little research on the flowers in this trailer (assumed there was some symbolism there) and found out the following:
1. The Chrysanthemums (white in particular) are culturally significant in Japan for representing death and grief, and they are often used at funerals.
2. The Red Spider Lily or "The Flower of Death" are poisonous to the touch and were planted over graves to deter animals from getting to the bodies.
Clearly some heavy themes of grief and mourning here, the fungus spreading might represent the total engulfment by grief and obviously the woman is completely covered by these flowers in the end. Her face falling off might even represent the idea of losing yourself to grief. Very interesting and I'm so stoked for this game, I think it's going to be amazing!
I believe there are a lot of references pointing towards Hiroshima. Since this is in Japan in the 60's, the face falling off, the bodies floating in water and the flowers (the Red Spider Lilies). To me, point to Hiroshima. I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said, and it was beautifully written :)

Silent hill is entirely based on the town silent hill, what does this have anything to do with that? Don't get me wrong this would be a really cool game of its own franchise, but associating it with silent hill is disgraceful and taints the series, they would be better off leaving it alone and creating an entirely new one.

This game and Townfall have basically confirmed that SILENT HILL is back! And the choice of ending the this trailer with a new pan-asian influenced rendition of the first game's theme is perfect.

Ever since the stream I've been playing Stories Untold and it's so good I have a lot of faith in Townfall now. Also I played Umineko a long time ago so I know at least the story in f will be great.
Out of all the stuff they announce THIS is the most exciting, this feels like it has the potential to to live up to the name Silent hill.

I know everyone knows Ryukishi bc of Higurashi, and yes Higurashi is great, but please if you have time, check out Umineko, it's Ryukishi's as well and it's amazingly written : ) if you find this style and atmosphere interesting i'm sure you will enjoy it

There's a lot interesting stuff going on here. Take everything I mention with a grain of salt, please. I'm just simply making observations. ALSO, please correct me on anything! I'm not an expert!
- The Gagaku-style rendition of the Silent Hill theme - Gagaku music was known to be played in the imperial courts. It's of foreign origin being heavily imported from China and Korea. Its current form was established during the Heian period around the 10th century.
- The red spider lilies/higanbana - this flower is seen throughout the trailer. This flower is notorious for being known as Japan's "flower of death". Pre-cremation, these flowers were planted around graveyards to prevent rodents and other wild animals from digging and eating the corpses due to their toxicity towards these animals. It is also believed that the bright red color of these flowers helps guide souls to the afterlife.
- The floating torii - Possibly a reference to the Itsukushima shrine near Miyajima in the Hiroshima prefecture. Potential setting for the game, maybe?
- Period setting - This story is going to take place in 1960s Japan during the Showa era (1926 to 1989). More specifically, this takes place during the Post-occupation period in Japan.
- The poor Japanese schoolgirl consumed in the flowers resembles a mebina/empress doll. Also, she's floating nearby the floating torii which could be a reference to the nagashi-bina/doll floating custom that takes place during Hinamatsuri/Doll Day/Girls' Day. This custom has participants make dolls out of paper or straw and send them on a boat down a river, carrying one's impurities and sin with them.
That's all I got so far.
The first Higurashi game (written by Ryukishi) has a scene where, basically, that same custom you mentioned at the end takes place.
You should make videos. You literally just wrote an outline of a script for a video I would definitely watch breaking down these trailers. I think you got the "it" factor one needs to be a good journalist.
