Hal Blaine died Monday March 11, 2019. A founding " member " of famed Los Angeles session musicians The Wrecking Crew, Hal was the genius behind so many different beats for artists as varied as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, and The Mamas And The Papas. Rest in Peace Hal...
So many of us that learned to play listening to the drums on top forty pop tunes in the sixties had no idea most of those parts were played by one guy. Rest In Peace, Hal, and thank you.
Hal was 88 then. That’s amazing! RIP Hal, your beat will go on forever.
I recall Hal being asked how he came up with the intro on "Be My Baby", and he said, "I missed the snare.". RIP, Hal.
So sad about Hal. You were the soundtrack of my life, Mr. Blaine, and I thank you. Greatest drummer EVER! You will be missed!
It's sad that millions have heard Hal Blaine's drumming and don't even know it. The guy was on everything....
Not millions.....BILLIONS!
Great quote from Hal: "l'm 10 of your favorite drummers".
Joseph B haha
This version is incredible. Just the way it keeps going
highlights how much a drummer can contribute to the essence of a tune.
What do you call a trombonist with a pager? An optimist. Thanks Hal for the humor, the talent, and the most recorded drummer of ALL time. We'll never see that kind of thing again...
Hal Blaine, you were a big part of my lifes' soundtrack. Safe journey.
And I didn't know it til a few days go. Travel well, Hal. You're a mensch.
Hall was the dummer for Sinatra, Patti Page, Elvis, Beach Boys, the Carpenters--you name it! What a talent! RIP, Hall--you were the greatest.
The greatest pop song ever recorded, according to Brian Wilson; it inspired him to write Don’t Worry Baby.
Rest in Peace, Hal 🥇🥁
it inspired his whole career...
RIP Hal Blaine. No one better Sir.
RIP Hal. Its nice to know that I can listen to many different artists and hear your amazing drum contributions in the background!
RIP Hal , and Ronnie still has an incredible voice and still beautiful looking ❤❤❤❤
RONNIE SPECTOR AND HAL BLAINE RIP.
"And the beat goes on" Thanks, Hal. Totally amazing drums. R.I.P.
Love you Ronnie... thanks for being here on this planet Earth...
Hal Blaine was session musician for many decades. I am saddened to learn that he passed away in March of 2019, just 7 months ago (10-31-19). Rest In Peace Hal, you were one of the best who practiced the art of studio session playing.
Ronnie.."" you are part of my life"" thanks... love your voice... always will...
One of the best interviews in music! I search out Hal Blaine clips, he was there for almost everything.
Came here after learning of the passing of Ronnie Spector. R.I.P.
One of the songs that ear marked by the wrecking crew.. Hal thought he mistimed the intro he looked over at Spector & he gave him the thumbs up so he kept it up.. pure genius from Hal & Spector .. I mean could you imagine this song without the drumming .. or Good Vibrations without Carols bass.. no way.
Ronnie never stop performing keep going like the Energizer Bunny
Awesome! RIP Mr. Blaine! And Ronnie you are still amazing! Be my baby is definitely one of the all time memorable songs of our time!
Ronnie sounds great, Hal still drumming great what an inspiration. Thank you!! Greetings from Bakersfield Ca.
Bonitos recuerdos de juventud, quisiera llorar de emoción, Monterrey, N.L. México, gracias Ronie
I’m sorry, he passed! He was an important factor in so many famous artists success! Great drummer! Be at peace Hal! Rock it out in Heaven!
She looks and sound so good, great thumps up.
Better then Phil
what an amazing life this guy had..rip al
What great music this still is! Thank you both!
The soundtrack to my youth, originally heard through an AM radio car speaker as intended, broadcast from our little local am radio pop station on the west coast of California. Hearing the opening is still magic and the song will always stand the test of time. The only thing that could have possibly made it better here, would have been Hal playing his original blue sparkle kit. That guy can play a simple drum set and make it sound like the biggest, most important beat on the planet. Real talent. And Ronnie still has it. She's awesome not only as a singer but as a person. Thanks for posting.
Great song Hal is one of my hero's
Love your voice... always
.
Hal is the heart beat of virtually every hit in my life from the late fifties thru the 60’s and 70’s and into the 80’s. So many “signatures”. The man knew what was needed. As a side note; that psychopath Phill is where he can do no harm. STOP EATING BATS
Ronnie, tell your son Gary I said Hi. From Gary from Bombs-Away. And you are still as great as you were back in the 60s. Love you and your music. RIP Hal... you were one of the great ones too.
RIP Ronnie! 1/12/2022, is when Heaven gained a new Angel.
Hal Blaine - One of the very best! Love you forever! RIP

From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
R.I.P. Hal, listened to your drumming, more than anybody's else thanx
Can’t wait to see you Ronnie...Aug in Dana Point! I can check that box on my bucket list!!!!
RIP Hal Blaine ! We're gonna miss you a lot ! 😔🥀🌷
Fantastic Band...
Hope to see you September 9th in St Charles, Illinois.. got my ticket.. can't wait... wish the best for you..
R.I.P. Ronnie
This video does not show Hal Blaine. The drummer it shows toward the end, behind the guitars, is not Hal. It’s the “regular” drummer who gives every indication of being POed that Hal was there, even just this song.
Hal Blaine was there in the studio for hundreds, maybe thousands, of hit records. He passed in 2019, but his interviews on YT are priceless. Not just for the retelling of rock/pop history, but evidence of an articulate, thoughtful, classy guy.
His memoir is big fun, too.
Just because you can't see him from this one angle doesn't mean you aren't hearing him!
It seems the guy who made the movie did everything in his power to avoid showing Hal Blaine. He was not the drummer that the camera focused in on at the end - he was the guy who was nearly 90 - the other drummer! He was the one the camera guy kept zipping past trying to avoid.
This is great, RIP Hal.

Hal Blain,
May your journey
to other shores
in time and space
be a sweet and soft
transition
because we all know
you just don't just die
and rest forever 6 feet
under waiting for nothing
to happen
Great Song . . .it takes me back to 1967 or so . . .
Hal was the best, did you notice he was also playing with Liberty Devitto! How awesome is that.
Video supposedly features Hal Blaine but almost completely skips him.
Ronnie vivirá por siempre... and Hall Blaine too!
😢saudade muito bom amo está musica❤😢
Great drum riff. So many people have copied it.
Cheerful ! Merci !
RIP Ronnie 😢
RiP Hal Blaine.
RIP Hal
Some more footage of Hal would have been nice.

Wow!

R.I.P Hal Blaine
RIP Hal Blaine
Oh to be a fly on the wall in the home of Ronnie and Phil Spector!!!
She is so 9ff key bless her
So what! Her voice represented the classic wall of sound and off key or not.. we will never get the chance to see her perform live again.
old school sweet...
Dang!!!
The backup singers are doing a pretty good job of impersonating Ronnie's sister and cousin.
They actually didn't sing on the original recording--just Ronnie
who in the hell filmed this? Couldn't u have kept the camera on HAL BLAINE for just a little while, and we didnt need to see Billy Joel's drummer in the video more than Hal. JEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
czcams.com/video/ly5kcghjzH4/video.html
Just love this. Both past their best but who cares !
Ronnie, listen i will be your baby. Will you love me until eternity?
I have always been fascinated by you and your voice. I do love you. Please reach out?
Tim.
HAL BLAINE !!!! God Bless.
I love Liberty, but wish he hadn’t stepped all over Hal during this performance.
@@sg-yq8pm I know, if you want a better showcase featurig Hal's drumming , listen to his work for Jan & Dean, what loved me about Jan's style was his " rule" in not getting in Hal's way, just sit back and let Hal go......
The eye burns, as before !!!
who is the guitar playing backup singer?
The other drummer looks like Liberty DiVito, former drummer for Billy Joel for many years.
Yes, he is
Yep...
RIP Hal , and I always had a big crush on ronnie and still do
Why in hell do you need two drummers up there when you got Hal Blaine if I was the other drummer out of respect I would have sat it out
Does there happen to be a version of this performance that shows Hal playing?
I think I saw some clips of the session musicians practicing and laying down the instrumental parts sans Ronnie.
@@angelaackerman8934 Thanks!
electric
great audience audio capture of one of Hal’s last performances of this song...but you forgot to record Hal! Fab shots of Ronnie, as she’s the focus, lovely as ever. But (no offense to the touring band), who cares about backup vocals and getting the big backup-drum finish when you literally cut Hal from the video? Missed opportunity :/
Why was that other drummer on the stage? Hal didn’t need any help.
