Hal Blaine - what can anyone say about a musician that never missed. He turned good songs into great songs. His addition of timpani to "This Diamond Ring" gave it a unique sound. Name one other drummer who would stop the whole recording session... get on the phone and call his drummer friend... get him in the studio... say to him, "You play my drums. i'm gonna play these things." What other drummer would tell the head of a record company that he had an idea to replace editing the tape with a kick drum count off that not only turned the record into a hit, but was used on many more records after that? (e.g. the hit record instrumental, "Music to Watch Girls By").
When your recording session had Hal Blaine, Joe Osbourne or Carol Kaye, Leon Russell, Tommy Tedesco, and a bunch of other Wrecking Crew first-call players, your song had a real chance to become a hit. RIP dude. You had a fun life and now another great drummer will appear - but who knows when. You set the bar really high.

@@eravelo I went to a fundraiser for Danny's film about 15 years ago when he was buying copyright permissions to use in his film.
