- In this video, I am going to show you how to make a different type of button using our original Yorkshire Button looms. These are easy fabric buttons, and you can add as much or as little extra stitching and embellishments as you wish! They are perfect for bags and cushions, and could be made really small with finer threads and fabrics for a pretty garment.
Items I have used:
The original "Yorkshire Button Kit" : www.ginabsilkworks.co.uk/york...
a design shown in the Yorkshire Buttons Booklet :

Just learned how to make a Yorkshire button last night and love the way you make yours. I'm planning to use them for flowers in my wool applique pieces.
Thank you! They make beautiful flowers - I know of an artist who uses them on cards too, to create flower gardens.
Recently found your channel and am so excited 💙 I love everything about it and You 👍👋👏👏👏
Thank you!
Thank you. What a great piece to add to my stitching.

Such another delightful video, oh dear Gina, I think I have yet another addiction to my list....couture sewing, teddybear making ( just completed an embroidered bear), millinery - still a newbie. Nose it's making buttons to go on the clothes I make.
Thank you for all your videos that are so clear and concise. You have a voice that is so calm and relaxing.
You mentioned a cat, hopefully we can see her/him at some point?
Thank you, I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos. I'm sure if you try button making you'll be a natural with all the addictions you already have!
Sadly, our last kitty passed at nearly 21 years old. She liked the pincushions, her brother was the tassel assassin. We do still have our totally spoilt Jack russell though.
These are so cute. I must try
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
Love this Gina 😍
thank you! x
Oh Gina, I just managed to get over my addiction to making Yorkshire buttons and you come up with this fantastic variation! Actually, I ran out of specialty threads and never ordered more, hahaha!
(Sorry!) But don't we all need the excuse for more speciality threads ? 😉
Very pretty
Thank you!
So pretty!
Thank you!
Great idea Gina. I will try it!❤
Have fun Beth!
Love them ❤
Thank you xx
It's amazing ❤❤❤
Thank you!
make them a little bigger and you have some nice Christmas ornaments
That's a great idea!
We make the old buttons on wooden plates or metal rings, which are wrapped and embroidered with thread until the height is created. So you get hard buttons that also go through buttonholes for clothing. Linen thread is used for this. A very hard shiny thread that will not rub off.
Yes, I make buttons using all of those techniques, I am a little bit obsessed with button making and the study of the techniques!
These are a fun modern way of making buttons. You'll find some videos of other types here on my channel and lots of other button making items over on my website.
@@GinaBSilkworks yes. I see it to late . I hope that these Art of hard bottoms is more to see in Samples from clothes . Mens have it offen wear on men's vests.
These are lovely Gina; my efforts are a bit "rustic" shall we say! I would definitely buy a booklet with instructions on how to do the decorative stitches at the end, because I find those things very difficult - even how to start off and finish threads...(Jenni)
Thank you Jenni! I've put it onto the list, thats a great idea xxx
I love this.But….
How secure are the ends?Won’t they come loose over time?
I make sure that the loops are stitched down, and any filling stitches worked on the loom are secured by securing the spokes. I also stitch back and forth through the stuffing to finish before trimming the working thread. This creates a path that the thread is unlikely to come away from. I'm used to doing this, so feel confident not knotting. However, you could knot the thread under the top and then work the thread through the fabric to hide the end.
CAT?? 😂don’t waste all this work on a cat! They’d be just as happy with a ball of lint😂. Anyway it’s beautiful
LOL! My late cat was very particular about stealing things I'd spent ages on. Particularly little pincushions :)
