  • How to make a thread button with a V-wrap design.
This tutorial shows a plain, striped and soutache version (which is worked slightly differently).
There are a few different ways to work this button, the technique shown here is a good starter technique.
    Materials used in this tutorial:
No 8 perle cotton (two colours)
    30mm disc button mould
    3mm wide soutache braid
    Tools used in this tutorial:
    Scissors, tapestry needle,
Gina-B Silkworks' Button Maker's Third Hand (optional)
Gina-B Silkworks' Circle Gauge set (optional) & pencil

I've always marvelled at the workmanship of antique cloth buttons. I've been fortunate enough to have a few in my collection.....now I will have a few modern ones. Thank you so much for all your time and energy that you invest in this ancient craft of button making, it is truly appreciated.

Thanks for the detailed video. Will definitely give this a try. Is it possible to do this on buttons with smaller diameter?

If you use a smaller thread instead of the 3mm soutache, yes. Finer soutache is hard to get today (sometimes you can find it as vintage). I've made this using perle cotton and silks, so just have a play!
