- Hi my name is Kathleen Laurel Sage and I am a textiles artist, tutor and designer with 20 years experience.
Video description
This week I have decided to look at some hand sticking to show you that it is good to try a wide range of sewing. I have chosen to look at Dorset buttons this week. Dorset buttons look tricky and they are sometimes if you are trying to follow a patten but hopefully I will help you to see that it is easier than it looks.
We are looking at a basic Dorset button but I show you how to jazz up to edges and add beads to make them more interesting and different. I hope you have fun.
Supplies
Range of different size rings
Around 3m of thread- minimum
Beads if you wish.

I’m just learning how to make Dorset Buttons, so that’s for making the video 🫶
I've just started to make Dorset buttons and find it so enjoyable. I'm not quite sure what I will do with them at this point, but your examples have certainly given me some ideas. Your example of the process is so clear and precise. Thank you for that. I'm going to keep you in my pocket for more instruction and support. I'm really drawn to using the buttons as art work for display.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the great instructions! Wonderful video!
I'm addicted to your buttons!. Right now I'm making a green one with tiny gold beads on it..so fun!
Love hearing your puppy. Great instructions. Thank you
Brilliant. Please can you do a video showing how to make tree in the dorset buttons. Like what you have as your other samples. (the red trees) many thanks
I saw a lady doing Dorset buttons on Kirstys Handmade Christmas and she won. It really inspired me as the piece she made was beautiful.
I love your tutorial and will give it a go. I like the shower curtain idea - very ingenious 😀. Once I get the hang of it I will try your next tutorial on trees, they really inspire me. I picked up some curtain rings at Wilko reduced to 49p that I thought could be repurposed, so will use them.
Very informative - I enjoyed watching how you make your buttons - You have very pretty ones as examples - Thank you for showing this.
So glad I have found your fabulously inspiring chanel. Love, love, loving your tutorials
I am really enjoying your work, great tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing 🌸
Excellent tutorial( I have seen a few) such a comfort to here your accent for this Irish woman living in Australia.
thanks for a great tutorial, I feel suitably inspired, knew some of the techniques but not the scalloped edge so very useful
Hi Kathy, So glad to see how you make those buttons. I have always wondered. Great tutorial.
Just made my first button. Can see me making many more.
Thanks for showing me the way 😊
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Good tutorials about how to make Dorset Buttons are very rare. Your explanations are clear as well as your camera angles.
I would be grateful if you could demonstrate how you insert the beads into the work... 🌺
i will try to facilitate this in a future tutorial . x
@@kathleenlaurelsagetextiles4432 - Thank you❣️
Thanks! Great directions and so pretty.
Thanks for the great tutorial. All very clear. It would be great if you could just go over how to make the tree trunks. Thanks for all the past ones.
lovely really enjoyed it
This is soooo lovely and very well explained and shown.
Maybe I overheard ... but what do I do if my thread is too short? How do I hide the beginning/ending or connect the threads. Same question with the endings when using different colours.🤔
thank you so much thank you for sharing your wonderful talent I learned a lot Phyllis
you are most welcome. glad i could assist in your learning x
This is the video that I stumbled upon and led me to be a subscriber to your channel! I sincerely hope that you will show how you did the backgrounds shown here. Thank you for sharing!
very beautiful
these are gorgeous! Thanks so much. How do you do the trees? I love them!
Lovely tutorial! There are a few of your samples (with the scalloped edging) that look like there are two rings, one concentrically within the other. Could you demo how the two rings are put together? Thank you!
Es precioso, lo que haces 🥰
Me alegro de haberte encontrado
Muchas gracias, por enseñarnos las maravillas que haces 😊
thank you, this was a great tutorial :)
I think the video title has a mistake. Dorest for Dorset.
