  • Hi my name is Kathleen Laurel Sage and I am a textiles artist, tutor and designer with 20 years experience.
    Video description
This week I have decided to look at some hand sticking to show you that it is good to try a wide range of sewing. I have chosen to look at Dorset buttons this week. Dorset buttons look tricky and they are sometimes if you are trying to follow a patten but hopefully I will help you to see that it is easier than it looks.
We are looking at a basic Dorset button but I show you how to jazz up to edges and add beads to make them more interesting and different. I hope you have fun.
    Supplies
    Range of different size rings
    Around 3m of thread- minimum
    Beads if you wish.

I've just started to make Dorset buttons and find it so enjoyable. I'm not quite sure what I will do with them at this point, but your examples have certainly given me some ideas. Your example of the process is so clear and precise. Thank you for that. I'm going to keep you in my pocket for more instruction and support. I'm really drawn to using the buttons as art work for display.

I saw a lady doing Dorset buttons on Kirstys Handmade Christmas and she won. It really inspired me as the piece she made was beautiful.
I love your tutorial and will give it a go. I like the shower curtain idea - very ingenious 😀. Once I get the hang of it I will try your next tutorial on trees, they really inspire me. I picked up some curtain rings at Wilko reduced to 49p that I thought could be repurposed, so will use them.

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Good tutorials about how to make Dorset Buttons are very rare. Your explanations are clear as well as your camera angles.
I would be grateful if you could demonstrate how you insert the beads into the work... 🌺

This is soooo lovely and very well explained and shown.
Maybe I overheard ... but what do I do if my thread is too short? How do I hide the beginning/ending or connect the threads. Same question with the endings when using different colours.🤔

Lovely tutorial! There are a few of your samples (with the scalloped edging) that look like there are two rings, one concentrically within the other. Could you demo how the two rings are put together? Thank you!

I think the video title has a mistake. Dorest for Dorset.
