The Black Bay was the hero that put Tudor back on the watch map. Since its launch in 2012, it’s arguably been the best watch to buy in its price range, even when it was powered by an ETA movement. In 2018 Tudor launched the Black Bay 58, a 39mm version of the vintage-inspired diver with an impressive in-house movement. Despite the smaller size, it’s been a huge success and the bracelet version is constantly sold out.
When people are new to the watch world and want their first Swiss made watch, or first “luxury watch” (whatever that means), the Tudor Black Bay 58 can comfortably hold the title for best first Swiss made watch, or first luxury watch.
In this review I compare the first generation Tudor Black Bay with the ETA 2824 movement and the Tudor Black Bay 58:

There's a strong case to buy either watch but i still have a soft spot for the ETA version.

Just a random fact: I almost binged all your videos, not because I'm so into luxury watches, but because you are such an authentic and "simple" guy (ment in a good way) and bring a little bit of ease in this way to strict watchworld. Love the coffee instead of champagne attitude! Keep up the great work! Greetings from Germany!

My perfect watch: 40 mm, 20 mm band, BB58 movement, smiley face, tudor logo, gilt dial, double domed sapphire.

I have been looking at Tudor with different eyes. Since all these Rolex scarcity bs got started. I got annoyed and nausea. It's time for change. And Tudor open the door to all Rolex customer who were disappointed by Rolex on a daily basis! Great video Adrian! And nice watch!

Nice review. I personally had the opportunity to purchase the original BB with the ETA movement, but opted for the newer in-house movement with the 70 hour power reserve and....yes the much more masculine Tudor shield. The larger case at 41mm suites me more than the new 58 as I have 8 inch wrist, but can see the benefit of the 39mm 58 for those with a sub 7 inch wrist. The BB is incredibly accurate timepiece and keeps the time even better when worn (vice a mechanical winder). A heavy duty timepiece for those that want precision coupled with good looks. A fantastic offering from Tudor which undeniably brought Tudor back from its long hiatus/obscurity.

Great video, great watch. I picked one up in March and every time I put on another watch, I miss the 58 and go put it back on feeling relieved to have it on again. I had put my RedBar diver 65 on, wound it, Adrian post this video, and now I am going to put the 58 back on.

Bought the “58” about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it. Wear it 90% of the time, wish the bracelet had an extension similar to the Explorer. Have a 7 1/2” wrist and the 39mm works great. Can’t ever imagine not having this watch in my collection! Love your videos, need to find a black and gold nato for the “58”. Cheers!

I also have a BB58 on the leather strap. Its probably the best purchase i have ever made. I can wear it in almost every occasion and it looks the part. Didn't think id find myself with a 39mm piece but it just works so well, definitely gets the most wrist time in my collection.

This was a great comparison. I have the original red ETA version. I had been lusting after the BB58, but this video actually made me appreciate my of ETA classic. The best part... it's paid for!

Adrian great vid like the Bb 58 bracelet needs micro adjust. Hope they expand the line to other colors and bring out a titanium 58 to replace the pelegos.

Beautifully shot video Adrian. The ETA red bezel was my first real watch in 2015, and I got myself the Harrods edition this Feb. The ETA version does just have something special about it. Tudor are knocking it out the park at the moment - hard to find many watches of their quality for under £3k.
