    The sides of the hammer left "in the white" look soooooo much better than the all blued hammers on the new Colt Pythons. Great looking piece!

    The original Pythion was meant to be a 38 spl target gun so your Trooper is not far off... Also the wide hammer and trigger etc. and.... I am a fan of the hammer mounted firing pin you are doing the stuff I would do if I had the money and 20 or so less projects! I love your Trooper conversion and.....me being me? I might change one thing.. I would re-nickel but .. that blue job rivals it for sure! We can't get ivory now but I love those almost ivory grips there is a place that sells blanks of an imitation ivory that is so real that it will get you arrested LOL I made one piece grips for 1851 Navy (clone) with the stuff after nickel plating... it handles like my 1873 clones but is black powder and in fairness I bought the ivory clone for my favorite clone gun.... my 1873 in 44 spl... the black powder guns were my way of learning to nickel plate (yes it can be done at home) and making one piece grips fof Colts. Good news is now I can do it. and it looks fantastic.. bad news is all one piece Colt grips are slightly different in that the grip frames are two piece and every one is like a fingerprint (no two exactly alike) some minor to not so minor fitting is required.

    How did you convert it to .357? New barrel, reamed chambers? Looks Awesome! 👍👍👍👍

      @TerryBenton  Před měsícem +1

      Reamed the cylinders with a specialized tool. You can use the same barrel. I just had that spare python barrel and figured it would look cool.

    Love your vids which may only mean I like the guns you like and for the same reasons LOL. some of mine are 100+ years old and I shoot em. I have the Python and Trooper in 357.. both are 60's 70's guns but.. I like the late Smith 'classics' line (my 629 is fantastic) and I like the current (ten years ago) Colt 1911.. go all the way back to model 1917 Smith made in 1919 and 'Outdoorsman' Smith 22 which I love and made in 1936 I also like the current Italian reproductions of black powder guns from the 19th century..

      yeah... not near what some people have but enough to hit the high spots LOL and not so much that I don't get to shoot almost all of em a bit now and then. I usually take 4 or 5 on an outing with some sort of 'theme' or maybe just a selection when some newbie wants to shoot. I have been handloading for more than more than 40 years so that really helps with expensive and/or hard to get ammo.@@TerryBenton

    The bluing is amazing. I have faux-ivory grips on one of my Pythons so I certainly approve that look. I am a little curious about rechambering it. Did the gunsmith lengthen the chambers to take the .357 cases? Were you at all concerned about the jump in pressures? The SAAMI recommended max pressure for .38 +P is 18,500, while it's 35,000 for the .357. That's a big jump. I know the Python and Trooper are both I-frames, but the .38 Special Troopers were discontinued in the early 60's and I can't help but wonder if they were heat-treated differently. Mostly, I'm just curious about the conversation you and your gunsmith had about all this.

    • @TerryBenton
      @TerryBenton  Před měsícem +1

      He used a specialized reamer to allow the cylinder to accept the cases. He fit the barrel so the forcing cone is rigjt and he said it is an I frame with a little less meat behind the cylinder on the hammer side. All the pressure is by the forcing cone which is identical. It will be fine. No worse than a K frame Smith. Lol

      @@TerryBenton For sure! LOL. I've seen a lot of conversions over the years and this one is very tame. It sounds like the gunsmith thought it was a non-issue, and he clearly knows his business.

    Too bad the gunsmith couldn’t get the roll mark. The barrel to frame fit is what they call a Pooper.
    A few gunsmiths were around the 70’s who made a Smolt or Smython. They polished up the action on a Smith and Wesson revolver and installed a Python barrel. They do have a following.
    What was the cost of the Royal Blue finish. Colt factory recommended a gunsmith.

      @@TerryBenton I am not disappointed, it’s important to know what was discussed between you and the person who performed the work. Was the barrel in rough shape with rust and pitting?
      People are always looking for a good gunsmith who knows how to replicate a Royal Blued finish.
