Every language presents different levels of difficulty and challenges. Mandarin Chinese is generally considered more challenging in terms of writing and reading due to the complexity of the Hanzi system, while Arabic is known for its intricate grammar. However, Mandarin is often more accessible when it comes to speaking because of its widespread use in professional and daily contexts, compared to Modern Standard Arabic.
Nevertheless, as mentioned earlier in the video, the difficulty of learning a language depends on various factors, such as one's mother tongue, learning abilities, motivation, and consistency. I hope this video has provided some insights into these two languages.

I am studying Arabic for years now as a German speaker. I found the grammar extremely logic and easy to understand. Also all the irregular verbs are actually regular and not random at all. The only problem I have is the large amount of vocabulary!
It can be difficult, indeed. Try to know the generic words first before delving into the more nuanced ones. The thing is that now you have facets and nuances of language and cultural awareness than most people who only know one language, which is true wealth. Good for you 👍

As an Arab, German was really easy to learn even easier then English. Pronunciation and writing is quit clear.

I'm a native English speaker who learned Arabic in my late teens and early 20s. It was challenging, but the language is so precise and consistent with its rules that it reminded me of mathematics. I wonder if that's why so many great mathematicians have come from the Arabic-speaking world.
As a native arabic speaker i always tell everyone that arabic is the most mathematical descriptive and precise language there is.

I'm German and have been learning Arabic for only 10 months and I really love the Arabic grammar. It's the most logical grammar I have ever learned. I find it way more difficult to understand the language when spoken with a "normal speed". This is why for the first time I think the immersion does it all-way does not work with Arabic.

I am American and I mastered the Arabic language as a teenager. Arabic is very complex, but once you understand the pattern, it's very easy. The issue isn't that it's difficult, but rather the sheer amount of rules in grammar you have to go through.

There is no mastering , the humans brain can't handle all the Arabic rules and words, to speak with Arabs easily you only need to learn 2-3% of Arabic , the best example to test your abilities is going through poetry and the Quran and being able to tell the right rule used, the reason why Arabic can't be mastered is the endless possibilities of words , thay someday you will realize that you cant spot the right grammatical rules bcz you don't understand the meaning of a certain word.
Just did you know that " أذاذ" means dates? Arabic isn't a thing you master , but you take some of it depending on how you gonna use it
@@_neveahmariee2132 I've been obsessed with Arabic ever since I was a child. A huge inspiration came from travelling and not wanting to be oblivious to what was being said around me. Try watching lots of videos in Arabic with English subtitles as a start. Kinda like how people pick up Japanese from watching anime.
Chinese is still harder
As a people who not an Arabian or a Chinese, I feel both language are pretty difficult. But *for me* Arab language is the most beautiful language, even if compared to my native language.

I am a native Arab also, I can speak 5 languages and still didn't master Arabic , but out of experience I believe that Arabic is the most expressive language in the world. once you know that "lion" in Arabic has more than 300 names each of which describes the lion in a different status !

I recently converted to Islam and have been learning the Arabic language. It seemed hard at first, but after 3 months I have gotten the hang of it and it makes sense how the language and grammar is set up. Still got long way to go. Alhamdulillah

As a Spanish speaker I found Arabic to be far more pronuntiable since about 15% of Spanish already has arabic roots.

And we have to learn the Grammer. And schools does't care about Speaking that much.
Persian and Arabic are close but not the same. I mean, most students in Iran hate learning Arabic in school.

Learning the Arabic language is not difficult, the difficult thing is getting deeper in it...Arabic Grammar is actually made for non-Arab people to help them learn Arabic, Also for Arabs who have a weakness in Standard Arabic. We Arabs learn the rules of the Arabic language in school to learn the literary aspect of our language..we learn why we use this word and not use this word. We are used to speaking the Arabic language naturally without thinking about how it works, Like a child learning walk on their feet without knowing the laws of gravity and balance. .. When you start thinking about how grammar works in the Arabic language, you will get a headache at first.

Conversely Mandarin's grammar is simpler and way more easier hahaha, we do have different tones/accents which leads to confusion but we don't actually have that much grammar to learn

As a Turkish, it is so easy to learn Arabic for me. And also i am Muslim so i know the alphabet and how to say the letters. Actually in Türkiye,you can learn Arabic in school but not all the schools.
I'm doing master in Arabic language and I can tell you that the difficulty of the Arabic language is not in pronunciation or writing, but much deeper than that. It is a language full of details and meanings, and no one can master it 100 percent, even scholars of the Arabic language. There is always something that has not been discovered.

Nice video! Both are fascinating and rewarding when mastered. Started Arabic on Duolingo three weeks ago, having fun so far, learned may words, most of the letters, and went to check on youtube how to distinguish between the ت and ط how to pronounce them correctly.
Have tried Chinese for a couple of weeks 7 years ago, before went travelling to China. I liked the pin'in method of reading, and the tonal thing is very unique and fun to learn.
Arabic is a complex language with lots of rules. I’m multilingual and speak 4 languages. Arabic is by far the most difficult to master and it’s my mother tongue. If you achieve a higher level of understanding of the language you’ll unlock its true beauty once you are able to decipher ancient Arabic poetry. Arabic poetry transcends anything I have come across in western societies.

I've studied both and although Arabic is complicated, Chinese is much harder. Arabic is definitely ''learnable'' as a language and most Arabic speakers are surprisingly helpful towards learners whereas I know people that have tried hard to learn Chinese and not made any progress. What I find hard about Arabic is that if you attend formal classes they normally teach you فصحى with the view to reading the Qur'an, but this has a load of additional complicated grammar which isn't actually used when people speak in the ''real world'' outside of educational environments or debates. Don't give up if you are learning Arabic as it's a beautiful, logical language.
Definetly colloquial Arabic is much easier and useful I can’t write but speak and understand all Arabic speaker
منهجية تعليم اللغة العربية تعتمد على القران لأنه شامل وبمجرد الاستماع إليه ستتجلى لك اصوات وكلمات لا تصادفها في الحياة اليومية وهذا مفيد جدا صدقني ستتحدثها كالاصليين او افضل ، كان محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم أميا لا يعرف الكتابة والقراءة وكان آنذاك الشعر العربي الفصيح والتنافس من يعجز الاخر في الشعر ،نزل الوحي على محمد وذهل قومه من شدة الفصاحه واعجزتهم الكلمات والعبارات لانهم الأدرى باللغه فكان القرآن معجزته الاولى، يجب ان تدرس التاريخ اولا في ما يخص العرب واللغه ، انها لغة القران.
I believe that Chinese is hard at the starter level, whereas it is hard in Arabic to reach an advanced level.

One easy feature I'll add about Arabic is the triliteral root system, which is commonly found in semitic languages. Words can be traced to three-consanant root words, so when you read a word you don't know, you can often guess the meaning if you know the root. You might know kataba is "he wrote" and then see kitab (book) or maktabah (library) in a sentence and partially recognize the meaning.

As a native arabic speaker from KSA who wrote a novel (If anyone wants to read it I will translate it to the gold language EN soon as possible) with the original arabic language - Fus'ha - I will end this war by saying arabic is the most rigorous language on earth.
For me, the grammer in the Arabic language was always fun.💜🥺
When you study it with love you will understand the secret meanings of what you're saying.
For example: in the English language there are lots of tenses, the meanings of them are different.
Saying: "you're nice & you're being nice" isn't the same thing. The Secret Meaning is different.
In Italian you don't need to use pronouns, can say the verb directly..
Amo, (Ami, Ame, Amano ,Amate Amano) il gilato.
When you can say a powerful meaning in a few words, that a powerful language.💜
And the Arabic language can use the same words to give you different meanings, depending on the position of the word, and grammer.
Example: in Italian you can say: gentile ragazzo or ragazzo gentile, but the meaning is not the same. Ragazzo gentile is more strong!
Also Italian differenciate between male and female in every word, albero and acqua for example. The Arabic language has this one too.
The Arabic language is fun, powerful and surely the most Expressive language in the world, Not Hard.
Don't listen to anyone says I'm native but it's hard for me, or I'm learning but It's so hard. I'm sure they are just learning in a wrong way, the Arabic grammer does make sense, if you think, you will understand.💜👍
And for phonetics and reading and writing they're so easy like Italian, English is so hard compared to them.

They talk about Arabic grammars (1600 years), and compare it to the modern language. Ask anyone, English native language, do you know the alphabet before 400 years? It is completely different and contains 40 letters. Are Americans know the old or middle English? Before 200 years they use "Thou are" instead of "you are". They have a gender verbs. Why they say Arabic has many grammars rules and in modern Arabic language we don't use these rules! If a man from Mexico wants to learn Arabic he can use "Assad" (lion) , and all people understand what he says. In Arabic we have many words for lions but we don't use these words.

Of course every language changes by the time. If someone wants to communicate, will need just a few words, but if someone wants to write, will need more. If wants to study arabic poems, that will be another case, both from 100 years ago or 1000 years ago. The more old it is, the more strong it is, and of course the more hard the person should study. And every language will be the same here.
The thing is that the Arabic language has a purpose behind every thing, so it's not impossible to be leared.

In my opinion, Arabic is hard to learn because of its letters (ق - ح- ض) but I met two Europeans learned Arabic Egyptian dialect and Arabic Syrian dialect, and they said learning Arabic is hard but not as they read in the internet (not all Syrian dialects are easy).

Arabic’s phonetics can be hard because the vowels aren't represented by any symbol.
The biggest mistake I saw foreigners make when learning Arabic is picking a dialect first and "going with it". Dialects (mostly) don't adhere to grammar and are in fact a simplifcation of the language so common people can communicate not so "formally", since Standard Arabic is basically poetry in motion. The problem with this approach is that you build a basis in a grammar-less dialect, and once you get serious about reading or watching news (which is always Standards), your brain is damaged and can not receive the logical complex grammar of Standard. I truly advise everyone to learn Standard first (even if we make fun of you) especially to understand the root system as it will make your life SO MUCH easier, then pick any dialect you want, but build in Standard as all Arabs are taught this in school as well.
i am egyptian man and i completely agree with you. evry arabs can understand and communicate in Arabic after that if you want to get a dialect i prefer the Egyptian dialect for evryone. because All arabs can understand and speak it easily because of the Egyptian arts, movies, drama.

@Jack Yes. Anything from that period is golden. Quran, books about the prophet and the sahaba. Nahej Albalagha by Ali bin Abi Taleb نهج البلاغة and the suspended odes from pagan poetry such as Imru' Alqais.. etc are also excellent upper echelon level of Arabic.
@@jowansuleiman7409 The closest analogy I could make that you immigrate to alabama and try to speak to everyone in Shakespearian English. The issue is that alabamaian is really only an accent and maybe some collequal terms, so you'll get by, however between the local arabic dialect and the actual language, stands a deep chasm. If an Arab tried to have a converstion with me in Standard I would be like "what's up with this nerd? this isn't school", but for you as a foreigner, it is imperative you learn Standard first. You must resist the urge to "go with the flow" with your Egyptian friend and speak like him/her, always insist you speak in Standard, they will respect your decision. The only people who I saw succeed in learning Arabic to almost native level are the one who stuck with Standard as long as they could, then they picked up the dialects fairly easily, with an added bonus that they could actually read books or watch the news (Something dialect learners from exchange groups can't really do even after years of learning the language).

Thankyou for making this video. Your explanation is awesome - so interesting to know about these two very difficult languages with so many rules. For me I think Arabic is a bit more difficult to master.
As someone who has been studying Fusha Arabic for many years, and is now on a C level, I can confirm that Arabic is not the most difficult in writing, reading nor vocabulary, you just have to get used to it. Grammar, on the other hand, is otherworldly haha. Just look at the numbers. You have a name for a number, but depending whether the word you're counting is female or male, dual or plural, a number from 3 to 10 or 11 to 100..., it all changes the way you use the number AND the counted word.
As of verbs; they mostly consist of 3 basic letters, but there are also words consisting of 4, and most verbs are nor regular. Beside the regular verbs, there are more then 10 possible irregular verb forms (beginning/middle/end letter is ء, beginning/middle/end letter is ي, beginning/middle/end letter is و, a combination of و and ي in a verb, ا as middle letter,...and they are ALL conjugated differently). And then you haven't started speaking yet about tenses and of course as you said; there are a lot of pronouns which have influence on the verbs.
Then we also have the cases (a nominatif/accusatif/genetif case).
Oh, and don't forget that some words are triptotes,some diptotes, and you also have group names whose plural will change according to the meaning you want to convey (سنبلات is a certain amount of grains which you should be able to count, whereas سنابل means a LOT of grains so you're not even able anymore of counting them, while سنبل refers to a bunch which you do not intend to count, you just want to speak about grain).
To be short; forming even a basic sentence is already a headbreaker. Arabic is a steep pile of grammatical difficulties right from the beginning, but once you got that right, you fly through the rest. 😂
As Umar ibn al-Khattab said:
تعلموا العربية، فإنها تثبت العقل، وتزيد في المروءة
"Learn Arabic, because it strengthens the intelligence, and increases one's noble conduct."
Learning Fusha Arabic causes one to reflect before speaking, to be patient, to be steadfast, to have attention for details in language and thus to gain tact and subtleness in speaking and acting.
And I see this only when learning Fusha Arabic. The dialects are all very simplified forms of Fusha and do not have the same intellectual and behavioural influence. Even though they're beautiful as well (I can also speak Moroccon Arabic but only on a B level).

The most hard point is arabic is al i3rab اعراب which is very important if you want to be more natural and influence when you talk Arabic is about alharkat (vowel sounds) and the most important vowel in every single world is the final one you have to know that this word is an object to use the vowel A in the ending you have to know that it is a subject so you use the vowel O at the ending you have to know that it is a past verb so you use A sound so al i3rab إعراب it's about the role of every single world in the sentences to get a correct pronunciation also there are a lot of words have the same spelling but they are different in meaning and it depends to the context and its role in the sentences and this is why understanding quoran is very hard
as an arab the arabic is the most difficult language you find it easy because they learned you just the basic arabic
Learning Arabic is like looking for a treasure, it comes layer by layer, it is not difficult at all, it is sophisticated. You can stick to one dialect and learn quickly, then add on more later on.
After you learned, you know most of the words of the Arabic or at least guess it as Arabic is based on root system and templates. It means if you know one word of a group of words of the same root, you can easily guess the meaning of rest.
In regards of the templates, each template has its meaning, so when you know the meaning of the template you can guess meaning of most of the words of that template. It is like a multiplication table. Root times template.
That is why Arabic language is the richest language on earth, you do not need to borrow words from other languages or invent new words that is new to everyone. You just need to grab a root put it in a template and make a word, even for the first time most people at least can guess the meaning of that word.
By the way I am not Arab but studies Arabic by myself.

I agree. Arabic is the most complex and logical language ever. I was hooked on how great Jalaludin Rumi poetry in English, and when I hear them in the original language, I was in love.

Aramaic, Assyrian, Coptic , Greek, latin.etc. We are lucky to have a library of 15 centuries books , that an Arab can read directly in their original texts, while other nations have a library of books that can't go past 5 centuries ago, otherwise they would need a translation to nowadays language to understand.
So Arabic is the oldest live language now on earth. Can you guess why? Why Arabic in particular?
Whereas ANY OTHER LANGUAGE, their people usually can't keep it for more than 5 centuries ,and it alters gradually and a new language is born and so on.

I'm a native English speaker and I have been studying Chinese for a few months and Arabic for a few weeks. Chinese is much easier for me than Arabic. The most difficult part of Chinese for me are the tones, recognizing the different tones while listening, and remembering the correct tone for the characters. But wrapping my head around the Arabic grammar feels really really hard

In most cases Arabic grammer is not important. If you want to learn a soecifuc dialect go with Eygption because its the only dialect that is understandable by all arab countries. Morocian is the one that most arab people do not understand.

Good luck learning Arabic! I just started learning Japanese exactly one month ago, so it is cool to see someone learning a language that is mothers native tongue. I can speak broken Arabic and hardly read it. I haven’t really studied it since I was a kid, and I haven’t practiced it on a day to day basis in a while (like 7 years).

as a native arabic speaker I will compliment you on pronouncing ه and ح correctly. Btw I lived in China and learnt beginner chinese in class. For me the most difficult part of learning chinese mandarin is the intonations in chinese. Although I liked how chinese people in China were patient and helpful and willing to help. I think the حركات in arabic is similar to the intonations in chinese. I enjoy learning chinese even though its very difficult. I think chinese is a logical language too because i think characters look like the real thing.
I get suprised when they class an easy and straitforward language like arabic with a complicated non traitforward and has no alphabet language like chinese together, I mean come on, arabic is so easy and so straitforward, you have to memorise 28 letters and there is no weird vocals like u or e, we have only strait a o i, in the other hand chinese has more than 10000 depectations it is either you know the writting or you don't, and you don't know where to stop a word and where to start the second word, because a word can be composed of one two three or four letters and on top of that you cannot use dictionary (it is too complicated) it is either you know the meaning of the writting or you don't, also you don't differentiate the verb from the name, and the most difficult is the tone, you cant speak chinese it is a challege, and when you think you are speaking it fluently very few chinese people will understand, in the other hand arabic is extrimly easy, the only dificulty is the vowels whichs arabic they delete, here is an example : انا احبك يا من تقراء تعليقي أَنَا أُحِبُّكُ يَا مِنْ تَقْرَأُ تَعْلِيقِي

I noticed there are some similar words in korean. 你阿拉伯语说得很好 ! You are right about the alphabet, which is why i have easier tike reading korean than chinese and that chinese people use pinyin to make the language easier. Pinyin is probably the main reason I managed to learn chinese otherwise I dont know how I can learn it, but I do understand the logic in the language too its nice.

Arabic is like math it's very precise and logical language and can cover so many situations and vocabs and it's actually not that hard to learn the only hard part of it is to learn the alphabet and then everything will go smoothly
I'm from east Europe. I like Chinese and Arabic cultures from early childhood, and some years ago I had tried to learn Arabic, but Arabic gramma is so hard that I gave up. Now I'm learning Chinese and this language is easier for me. From my subjective viewpoint Chinese gramma is even easier than English gramma in most cases.

As a Chinese i am totally agree with u. But also in my opinion ancient Chinese that is really harder to learn than modern Chinese. So modern Chinese actually like a jigsaw puzzle and you just need order to put the two or three words together and you almost finished a easy sentences.

Mandarin grammar is fairly straight forward. I think with Chinese languages, the hardest parts are the tones and the writing. If you come from a language like English where there are no tones, it will take a bit to learn to listen for and differentiate them. The writing system is really just a memory game and takes time. Chinese has a lot of idioms, but you'll recognize them when you hear them and just have to remember what that phrase means.

My nationality is Pakistani. My birthplace is Riyadh, however. I would say the native Arabic is actually little bit change from the Arabic people use to speak in KSA. I have been learning Arabic from childhood but cant speak. I could understand what they are actually talking about. i love c and k dramaas usually from 2 years Ive been watching them and i am biggest fan of Chinese language. Your video makes me eager to learn both.

I am Chinese native speaker(both Cantonese and Mandarin), learning Arabic for 4 years. I cannot compare them to be honest because I have mastered Chinese since I was a kid. But Arabic is definitely difficult. But I love the beauty in it .
What is different between cantonese and mandarin and chinese standard
@@Maximilianus721 cantonese is more like a dialect of the Hong Kong, Guang Zhou region (but a lot of people use Canto as daily use so it developed to be seen as an independent languege). There's also like Shanghainese, Wenzhounese, that 100% doesn't sound like mandarine, but is a form of mandarine dialect. Now, when talking about standard chinese, we are mostly talking about mandarine and simplified chinese

I consider myself a fluent and native Arabic speaker. I've mastered Arabic through school and as a personal interest. I can tell you, that Arabic is much easier to learn than Chinese/Mandarin. Arabic is very systematic, it uses a set of rules that apply to all words and sentences. Even tones apply to every word equally.

Well, I speak Arabic, English and French fluently, but when I tried learning MANDARIN (still not giving up) # 2:17 The tones....I dropped pinyin because of this, although I am familiar with French tones-- or rather "les accents" and It was easy for me to start learning both japanese ((kanji in progress) and korean..nonetheless, Mandarin is a vaccum to all of the sounds that I've learned throughout my 29 years...agh...Although, I am trying to familiarise my ears (input) with as much Mandarin as possible, I still find it quite difficult.
ps: I studied linguistics and the first part of your video (the part when you talk about how learning such language is different from person to another depending on their mother tongue) is quite accurate whilst missing the adaptability traits of certain regions in the world (geo-historical factor is also important). thank you
My mother tongue is Hebrew so learning Arabic was quite easy and fun. There's a lot in common - grammar, vocabulary, and much more.. Chinese is also fun however will take me much longer.. but it's nice that grammar is not a big issue

In Arabic's grammar we all struggle learning it (as an Arab) and we usually dont use it in true life it is just for clarification. The dialect changes depending on the location for example: " not all the Egyptians speak the same dialect, the dialect changes whether they live beside the mountains or the beach or the city or the dessert" that goes along with all the Arab regions.✨ But no matter were a person lives we still can understand their dialect.
Since many natives do not master it as well I guess in Arabic culture you can easily tell who is the smart person by the way they speak? The smarter the less grammatically mistakes?
@@rbaet3465 No, we do not use the classical language except in school, but in our ordinary lives, each country has its own dialect, and each country has different dialects depending on who lives in the north, south, and center.

@@rbaet3465 it s not about being smart because there are a lot of dialects in our Arab culture and from person to person it is just different for example an Arabic teacher would speak Arabic fussah most of the time it is not only for Arabic teachers tho, for example a poem writer will mostly speak with lots of poetry lines while a book writer will have a larger dictionary knowledge unlike a bedouin person would speak in so complicated dialect....... in the end, it's not about being smart.
Before I visited China, I was never interested in learning Chinese. But soon after, while being in China, I managed to pick up some words and I also got used to the sound of the language. After that, I have decided to study Chinese and I enrolled to a Chinese course at the Confucius Institute. It's actually not that hard of a language to learn. The grammar is very simple which makes it very easy to learn, in my opinion. I have studied several other languages before so I am used to the whole language learning process. I invite others not to be afraid and to try and learn Chinese.

What makes a language hard is that it has a lot of rules to remember. I don't think Chinese fit into that category. It's hard for foreigner mainly because it doesn't have a pronunciation system to follow(before invention of pinyin) and the writing system is different.
