To those who are critiquing his delivery, whose musical sensibilities are clearly undeveloped, the beauty of this song is its narrative which playfully unfolds via the inner rhyme schemes. Springsteen’s self-awareness and understanding of the historical conversation in American poplar music and culture alike, is blatant in this song and like a great deal of Springsteen’s material, it is written to be told as a story; Bruce’s delivery here is congruent with that intention and masterfully performed.
Have to agree how can a man say he is terrble live. The last great touring artist whether he plays alone or with the e-street. He never lets his audience down.
I don't know where or when, but how did this guys who has such soulful, passionate voice that sung of the frustrations and pleasures of Love begin to sound like a cross between Woodie Guthrie and Dylan and a bad day? I prefer his voice pre-Nebraska. I mean, this guy still puts on a great show...
i think people are hatin' on him live cause he doesn't play it like its on the album (granted, this acoustic)...sorry if he brings a whole different personality to his live performances, don't know what to tell ya...keep listenin' to the albums in your cars i guess?
