    I like the looks of the M135i. I have an LCI2 M140i and it’s just fantastic, 360BHP RWD 3.0L I6 in a hatchback, such a rare gem, everything great about BMW in its smallest package. The M135i does look great compared to the A35 or even the S3 but the M140i looked great compared to the full blooded A45’s and RS3’s of the time. BMW are reluctant to make an M1 for obvious heritage reasons but they did a very good job on the original M135i and M140i.

    M140i stock (4:35) - 74.1 PS
    M135i stock (5:15) - 72.8 PS
    M135i tuned (7:00) - 59.2 PS
    either something has changed other than the ECU tuning, or how can the car have gained over 10 PS _at the wheels_ by reducing transmission losses? The dyno by definition can only measure "at the wheel" power/torque... so what gives?

    I have just bought a m135 F40. I get the engine and rear wheel drive debate (my other car is a 6 pot Z4 3.0 si) but it depends on what you measure better as. The new F40 is a brilliant car and demonstrably different, therefore none comparable to the B58 m140

  • @NickG24
    @NickG24 Před 4 lety +1

    Nice video guys. I didn’t like the new M135i at first, but new car styling gradually grows on you and soon the M140i will look dated, just because there’s a new one out. I used to think the RWD would be more fun, but i had an M140i for 2 years after a Golf R and as good as it was, it was frustrating not being able to put the power down in the wet. So 4WD is a welcome addition. Yes, the 4 pot will have nowhere near the same character or tuneability but it still has a good wedge of torque compared with its competitors and the B58 isn’t that efficient in anything other than motorway driving. I haven’t driven on yet but as I said, the shape is growing on me. Those alcantara seats look a bit cheap in the photos though, too patchy.

      'Every time' in bad weather you see a BMW backwards in a ditch ???
      Really ??
      I think you are bullshitting mate, seriously.
      Lower powered models of the old RWD 1 series, do not have the power/torque to get out of shape, and if conditions do make this possible, the stability and traction control keep everything in shape and get you out of trouble.
      For high power M140i versions, unless you turn everything off, it still has enough safety systems to help keep it straight.
      RWD is the exact reason M140i owners buy the car, to have fun with. If you can't modulate the throttle in wet weather, then don't buy ANY RWD car, not just a BMW, because they are all the same. Stay away from Porsche, Mercedes, etc and stick to driving your Nissan Leaf at 5mph everywhere.
      If conditions are that bad, even an AWD car will just understeer off the road (if you are a numpty driver).

From a daily driver hothatch perspective, this test lacks a couple of important things, namely MPG and PRACTICALITY, which is fair for a daily driver. • @RaceChipChiptuning
      @RaceChipChiptuning  Před 3 lety

      Hi, short answer is, we don't :) We've had runs that went slightly downhill and on camera it looked as if it would be slightly uphill and vice versa. We're doing all our runs with dragy which only allows valid runs with very small slopes and inclines. Since a few weeks, we're additionally using the "Zeitenjagd" app to correct those small differences.

    I have to agree that the 6 cylinder has to be the better engine. However, times move on and Audi and Merc are sticking with the 4 cylinder. MPG and emissions come in to it also. I myself have been looking at all 3 cars mentioned and I'm still undecided on which one I will go for. I have also looked at the saloon/coupes from them. I must admit, at the moment (and to stay under the £40.000) the M235i coupe is probably the 1 I will go for.....when it hits the showroom. I'm 55 and moving away from the hatches....am I wrong? What are your thoughts? Still need that sub 5 0-60 and keep under that £40.000.

      @@Alex92837 hi Alex, yeh I have considered that as an option but I also need to look at running costs and I want it as a long termer. If I buy new, I will not be getting something that's probably been thrashed for 6-12 months, given someone else a lot of fun and then swapped it in. Plus, I will still pick up the additional road tax on that one too.

    I have had both and I prefer the new one. The old one has a terrible interior, worse than a Hyundai hatch. As a daily car the new one is way much better... hopefully there will be a 140i version of the F40. I do miss the RWD and how it feels when you make any turn, you don't have to go to a circuit to enjoy the RWD but despite of that the new one is a better car

      There is absolutely nothing wrong with the f20's interior stop justifying your mistake. in every single aspect of the new m120i it is shadowed by not only the m140i but a pwg m135i. when you start to look at it as a m120i vs a golf R it looses even more in the aftermarket world.its just a piece of shit bmw made to make money off of so that they can fund better and greater projects.

      "Old" 6-pot engine won't fit in the "new" platform (made for transverse mounting). No, I don't like it either, and I'm hanging on to my M140i (replacing it with an M340i as and when), but there is a logic to it. Also the M135i is xDrive, even though it's more front-biased than the M140i xDrive - again, platform choices, engine mounted in front of the front axle etc.
