    The helicopter is ugly, the aerodynamics are a sight to behold! Thank you.

    It would be interesting to see this kind of visualisation of vortex ring state and other wacky helicopter phenomena

      I sure tried but the Sim didn't seem that interested in allowing the subject to create a flow opposite the airstream direction setting. 🤔

      Thats a Pity - that would be super interesting!

    Incredible Graphics. There certainly is alot going on, unseen to the eyes.

    That's very fluid.

      And dynamic, might I add

    This reminded me of a quote I heard, I don't remember where I heard this or who it was quoting but it went something like "Helicopters don't so much fly as they beat the air into submission" I think this is proof of that lol.

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem +2

      Heck yeah, I've heard that said too during my career and doing this sim sure highlighted what it meant 😮

    Referred here because I Google-asked- why is the CH53E so un-aerodynamic looking? It's got more tanks, sponsons, wheels, engines, etc. protruding from it than any other copter I can think of.
    Unless rotor blast makes any streamlining immaterial, it looks like it smashes forward through the air. Surely forward-streamlining must matter a little bit in copters? Or is most of that done for aesthetic reasons? But since the CH53E mainly just picks heavy stuff up and hovers a lot - let's bolt on even more gear to the outside...!

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah I think for most heavy helicopters the cruise speed is too slow to justify adding more weight (fairings, covers, etc) for the sake of slightly less drag at the relatively slow speeds it flies at.

    Man, these look awesome!
    Would it be at all possible to do an aerodynamic analysis of a Chinook or a Ka-50? Or is that entirely dependent on whether you can get the STLs?

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem +1

      I'll usually get some kind of 3D file of the aircraft and fix it up in blender, check against a schematic then export the stl sequence. I've got on my list here to do a Kamov video so I'll start looking for a free source somewhere. Chinook should be easy to find a free one too 🤔

    a coaxial rotor simulation might be really interesting, could maybe pick ka52 or the sikorsky S-97 prototype as the model

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem

      Now that's a good idea, those would have some chaotic af airflow 🤔

    Super cool. Would love to see the Raider-X or V280. I'll watch every damn one of these haha. Found your channel through Ryan McBeth who shared your Prigozhin video.
    I imagine these take forever to make but here's a mini wishlist 😂
    - Wingsuit
    - Gravity Industries style jetpack
    - Peregrine Falcon
    - Space shuttle takeoff and landing
    - SpaceX Falcon 9 takeoff and landing
    - SpaceX Starship
    - MH17 to keep the Ukraine clicks coming your way

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem

      That's actually a really good list, thankyou. I've added those on. I've been working hard to find a bird 3d model animation for years now and just can't find one (a proper one, not just wings flapping up and down. Maybe like a 3d scan sequence of a real bird flapping) 🤔

    • @sned_music
      @sned_music Před rokem

      @@SLGY haha thought you'd like it. Yeah can imagine an actual moving bird would be super duper hard. Def easier to find stationary ones.
      The Peregrine Falcon is interesting as it's the fastest bird when it dives - so perhaps it's dive would be easier as mostly a stationary posture. Still reasonably obscure and hard to find a model of tho surely.
      People seem to love the video with talking and explanation tho, so maybe MH17 is a good one! I've seen several other complex animated videos detailing the incident - none with fluid dynamics on display tho 🙂

      I should have listened, I instead did a Biden vs Trump aerodynamics showdown video and the algorithm cancelled me 🥺 I guess political aerodynamics isn't my niche after all lol

      @@SLGY Yo! I just saw a Lego ornithopter which reminded me I hadn't replied to this comment from a month ago 😂
      Yeah man I saw that - super duper lame - I guess wartime content is permissable, but orange man bad, and also 'we don't talk about old blue man'?
      Weird and lame typical algo bullshit. Hopefully another vid will catch on at some point. YT seems to reward consistency more than anything. I was thinking maybe it would even help to remove the Trump v Biden vid but that's a dumb option also, and a waste of a lot of work.
      Anyway keep it up regardless!!!

    Antialiasing was applied at the app level or from nvidia control panel overriding the application?

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem

      Is there any antialiasing? It's pretty crisp edges when you watch it in original 4K

  • @kayano9411
    @kayano9411 Před rokem +1

    And what was the maximum speed? How fast are the screws turning? Are the lift and drag results displayed?

    • @SLGY
      @SLGY  Před rokem

      The main rotor RPM was ~175 from memory and the tail rotor 4x that. I didn't have the forces lattice turned on for this vid (it takes up extra GPU memory which means I'd have to reduce the volume resolution too) and I was only looking for some pretty visuals, not data as such. To really exaggerate the retreating blade stall I think I turned up the forward velocity to 300 or so Knots, which wouldn't be achievable, in this beast anyway **slaps roof**
