    Horizon: The Truth about Taste
    Taste is our most indulgent sense but it is only in recent years that we have started to understand why we really love the foods we do - and it is a lot more surprising than you might think. There may a way to make food taste sweeter without adding any extra sugar and it is all down to a trick that happens in your brain. Horizon meets the scientist who has grown the perfect tomato, that is sweeter and juicier than anything you are likely to find on a shelf, as well as the men and women hoping to become elite, professional tasters.
    Welcome to BBC Earth Science! Here we answer all your curious questions about science in the world around you (and further afield too). If there’s a question you have that we haven’t yet answered let us know in the comments on any of our videos and it could be answered by one of our Earth Science experts.

      You complain about the quality and taste of the food at hundreds of restaurants, so much so you get into the headlines, then you are headhunted by a food tasting company and BAM!! you are now a TASTE TESTER EXTRODINARE !!!!!!!!!

    i dont care what any one says "umami" is NOT a real flavor. Call it savory, call it anything else..... but it is NOT "umami", it just dosnt fit with the other names, and its a horrible sounding word, on par with "moist"

    • @durinsbane1086
      @durinsbane1086 Před 5 lety +15

      That's because it's Japanese. They're the ones that came up with the concept that savory does not exactly meet either of the other 4, and the entire culinary world agreed with them.

      @@durinsbane1086 savory covers it just fine, which is why if you look up synonyms for "umami" , "savory" is one of them.........and it dosnt make you want to vomit every time you say it.
