I concluded that I could never become one once I entered highschool, because I was really bad at math, and the sciences (mainly physics and chemistry..I enjoyed biology though). Im into fish population dynamics and fisheries management so i dont really deal with a chemistry problems right now. But if you go into say chemical or biological oxeanography or marine pollution, you may need your chem. But dont worry, chem subjects in school may be hard because its more on theory. But if you apply it in the real world its challenging but meaningful . Good luck buddy

My 4 year old wants to be a Marine Biologist; since she was a baby she had an unnatural love for water, even once when she nearly drowned at age 2 she still loves the water and being in it. Unlike most babies she was uninterested in the baby first tv shows, but could sit through a whole documentary about the sea. Her love for nature and water is uncommon for her age, and how well she’s remembered she the name of the animals in those documentaries is amazing. As her mother I’m just here to build on her interests and try to make her dreams come true, if those dreams shift I’m here for it, as of now it’s swim lessons, and aquarium visits.

I love it, and as I said, I'm about to finish high school but I don't know what to do because the only university where I can study marine biology is 4 hours away from my home and if I were to go there I'd get no sleep at all XD

Take a chance , make sacrifices do what your heart desires ! Experience new things whenever you get the chance! but most importantly never give up on your dreams no matter how hard they are to reach , I’m 22 I graduated high school 4 years ago I went to a community college for 1 year studying something I had no interest in because I constantly felt pressured at home, what I really wanted to do was work with animals and study to be a marine biologist just like you but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the money to go to a college that offered that program and I still don’t have the money to do so .I hate working retail and I am so sad that I can barely keep up with my bills and my chances of going back to college are minimal , what I’m trying to say here is if you have the chance and opportunity to go , go and don’t take life for granted I wish you nothing but success and I really hope from the bottom of my heart that you pursue your career (:

I love this comment section! I hope the people who followed their dreams to be marine biologists are happy. As someone who took a chance on a crazy dream in another country at 27 all I can say is DO IT. I had a panic attack on the plane to California. It was terrifying. Nothing went smoothly. Everything from shopping to bureaucratic stuff like immigration and paying bills was so different and frustrating to deal with. Then the dream job I went there for..went away. A few years later, I fell into a hobby that I used my marketing background to promote, and it was amazing. If you love what you do, it's never work! Don't settle because you are scared. Settle, or change course if the opportunity goes away. If you are scared, then go get that opportunity scared. It's worth it. 💯

I am a student in Amsterdam, I finished my bachelors in Bioinformatics a year ago, passed my premasters this year in preparation for my master in Freshwater and Marine Biology after summer vacation! I have always wanted to become a biologist and the marine field always fascinated me the most as I grew up on Aruba where I was surrounded by sea! I can only dream I will find such an amazing job as the lady in the video. Due to the many schoolhours I make and my high student debt I cannot afford to do volunteer work unfortunately. I really wish I had the opportunity to further improve my CV though and to properly learn how to dive. ❤

i told my dad that i really wanna become a marine biologist, since its really interesting to me. my dad didnt like that idea and told me not to become one. maybe if i know more about the job and how i can become one, i could get him over so he could support me. this video gave me more hope, even tho im still 13, i will try to not fail in the subjects ill need. working in the lab is cool, but i'd rather dive and/or go in a submarine (that has been my dream for so long)

This is my passion career, I've known that since I was 3. I've fallen in love with the ocean for the longest time, I find it so cast and I see it as a big mystery. There's so much out there that we don't know even exists that could possibly be dying from our own actions, and some of these might have inspirations for new technology or cures for diseases. The fact that there are people out there harming it, acknowledge it, and brush it off their shoulder and continue harming it, makes me sad, and helping something that I love so much endearingly feels good. That's why I want to become one.

I’ve always had an interest in any animal, but especially the oceans, being mesmerized by the dolphins. I’ve always known I wanted to be a vet, wildlife rehabilitator, a horse trainer, or a marine biologist, but what really got me wanting to be a marine biologist was the first time I saw a humpback whale, when me and my family went to Seward, Alaska for vacation, and got to be on the open ocean for the first time in my life. I love all animals, so most of my life I spent wanting to be an exotic or livestock animal vet, but after that summer, I honestly can’t see myself pursuing something other than being a marine biologist. Now, ending my year as a freshman in high school, I have passed two years of biology classes with all As and one B, and chasing after that dream, but now all I need to do is decide which type of marine biology I want to do, as it’s all so fascinating, but all I know is that I want to be on the open ocean, a feeling that to this day, I still can’t get out of my mind

As weird as it sounds, the movie, Jaws turned me on to marine biology when I was a child. I gave it up and try to pursue more parent pleasing careers. But I’m 36 and I’m going for it.
The movie Jaws when I first saw it as a kid scared me to death but then when I watched shark week, I found out these beautiful creatures are nothing like Bruce in the movie. Because Bruce was just an eating machine and was a killer. But when you think about the fact that you are in their home, and you are an intruder in their property, it doesn’t make you as scared of them. Because they don’t attack just to attack. They attack when they feel threatened.

I recently just finished watching the "Blue Planet II" series on Netflix and I loved it because I found it very interesting and inspiring. Also, I have to make a decision on what do I want to study and dedicate my life to. After seeing that series I am starting to consider marine biology or environmental engineering as a profession because I am interested in getting involved with solving the climate changes that affect the ocean. I don't know if it is my passion and that scares me (mostly because I don't know if I'm going to be good at chemistry and all those classes I would have to take), but I would like to be in the ocean studying marine animals. It would be amazing, life changing and eye opening.

I’m watching this while crying, thinking if giving up my dream of studying sharks and whales is really worth it for financial stability, since where I live the options for this career are very limited. While I’m still very young, I’m in that stage in early adulthood in which I feel like my time is already over, somedays it gets overwhelming and I can’t help but imagine what my life could’ve been had i chose what i actually loved. Truth is I’ve loved the ocean and it’s creatures since I was a little kid, and when the “what do you want to be when you grow up?” question arrived the answer always seemed to be so obvious, but as i aged i found myself losing faith in my potential and ended up studying psychology, which feels ironic to some degree. I still love watching videos and learning new things about marine biology, i just wish i had the same sentiment when learning about my actual career. I’m still trying my best to enjoy what i do, but i’ll always know where my heart actually belongs. Sorry for the vent everyone, and thank you for sharing this wonderful video, keep up the good work! ❤
