  • On August 11, 2021, the Seattle Mariners unveiled a statue of Edgar Martinez, on the south side of T-Mobile Park, along the street that bears his name, in a pose that represents one of the defining moments in the history of the franchise.
Created by Lou Cella, the Chicago-based artist who sculpted the statues of Dave Niehaus (2011) and Ken Griffey Jr. (2017), it captures the single most famous hit in Mariners history, "The Double."
During his storied 18-year career, Martinez was a seven-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger and two-time batting champion. In 2019, he joined his former teammate Ken Griffey Jr. in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Griffey and fellow Mariners Hall of Famer Dan Wilson.

This interaction brings up a valid point, Rick Rizz is almost as deeply entrenched in Mariners lore as the kid

You don't see players staying with one team for their entire career! So it's nice to see some players being that loyal!!

It’s coming. It’s still possible this year even though those east coast writers are ready to count us out if we do well in our next 9 at Houston and Oakland. Then we play the a’s 7 more times, the red Sox once. Have two series with the diamondbacks. We could do it but 2023 is our years
