    Met Edgar at a restaurant in Bellevue, WA in 2019. He is my all time favorite baseball player and when I saw him in there I was shaking. He was by himself and I finally got the courage to say hi. Told him I was so proud of him to finally got into the HOF and he was so kind. I'm surprised I didn't cry afterwards LOL

    To quote former commish Bud Selig when the DH award was named after Edgar:
    "Earlier this season, when Edgar hit his 300th career Home Run, he joined such Hall-of-Famers as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Stan Musial, and Rogers Hornsby as the only players to record 300 homers, 500 doubles, a thousand walks, a 300 batting average, and a 400 on-base percentage."
    If that isn't unanimous First-Ballot Hall of Fame material, nothing is.

    Pure class. Edgar Martinez is, and always will be my favorite baseball player. He has earned everything he has ever gotten.
    The Hall of Fame is a better place now that he’s in there. Congrats to both the Hall itself, and Edgar for getting in.
    I was there for “The Double” that won Game 5 and saved the franchise. Forever the most electric, thrilling moment in my lifetime....

    As a Yankees fan since the 70's. Edgar Martinez was one of the best right handed hitters I ever saw. He was the most effective and consistent hitter's in the game. I hated seeing him come to the plate with runners on base; I knew they were scoring. Congratulations Mr. Martinez you've earned it.

    Sometimes the HOF is a pure joke. How can they almost leave out such a great player? They keep doing this and its sad. Great players that deserve to be on HOF are passed just because they don’t get the votes… c’mon the stats should be the votes. If the player had a good clean career that should be enough.

      You forgot the 514 doubles, 1283 walks, and career avg .312 and career obp of .418.
      If you can be mentioned in the same breath as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Stan Musial, and Rogers Hornsby, then you are pretty damn good.
      He is one of the best ever to swing from the right side.

    • @artboston4787
      @artboston4787 Před 3 lety +1

      @@EchoesDistant I certainly didn't forget his 2247 hits which isn't impressive at all. 308 home runs isn't impressive. He was a defensive liability making it mandatory for him to be a full time DH. Is defensive important to you because a lot of people seem to overlook that aspect. Don Mattingly had a strong career with 9 gold gloves but alas he isn't in because his overall numbers just aren't enough......but defensive liability Edgar gets in? The other players you mentioned had far more accomplished careers so it's ridiculous to make those comparisons. Nine times he was denied entry and he finally makes it in on a last chance sympathy vote.
