Justice has been delivered. I watched Edgar Martinez throughout his whole career and his election to the HOF was inevitable. Love or hate the DH, his accomplishments were undeniable.
1 of the greatest men and ball players of all time I remeber playing catch with him in the stands in center field of the kingdome during warmups. He respected the game and gave it his all everytime. Many guys these days should take notes on this guy. Never very famous around the world but left the game better then he found it
Not as HOFer IMO Didn't compile great stats, only 2200 hits and 300 HRs. No rings or MVPs. And obviously, no defense. Should be in the Hall of Very Good. I'd make it VERY hard for a no-position player to get in, if ever. If you have to think about it, even a little, he's not a Hall of Famer, and smart people have to think about him.
If you look at those stats then yes. 5x silver slugger, 2x batting champion, 7x all star. One of 18 players ever to record a .300+ batting average, .400+ on base percentage and a .500+ slugging percentage. His ability to hit the ball anywhere is something that sadly rarely exists now days in baseball. Edgar would have hit .500 against the shift if they had used it. He's a top 2 DH of all time and it is a position in baseball. He was #1 by far when he retired. If MLB recognizes it as a spot on the team then they should recognize the people who did it best by putting them in the HOF. That's why Managers and Announcers get in. He's considered one of the best right handed hitters of all time and until now was the only player with an award named after him not to be in the HOF. Not trying to be argumentive. I respect your opinion, that's why it took 10 years for him to go in. But you can make a case for him to be in the HOF as well. I mean, the first unanimous player ever is a guy who only played for half an inning at a time and was also the best at his position.
@@grldm3 morning Gerald..you said it all..there is no way i could add except to say Edgar was one of the few who always hit well against Mariano ....peace..wear your 😷

You couldn’t be more wrong. Counting stats such as hits and homeruns only tell so much. Learn sabremetrics and get back to me
