After thinking of a way to freeze the character, he quite literally froze the character in carbonite in case of Harrison Ford skipping out.

So he was Bored of playing Han even back then, no wonder the reason Han died in the story is because Ford Demanded that if he is to set foot on set again, it's only if Lucas agrees to kill off Han.
