      One of the most powerful scenes in the series. I fell asleep one time listening to this episode on headphones and remember having a terrible half-lucid dream with a lot of the dialog from the episode incorporated into whatever was happening in my head. I remember struggling awake while Christopher was screaming and crying (to paraphrase): "what have you done/we're fucking doomed". It was more awful than cool, and it just goes to show that scene is just absolutely raw and terrifying. I actually can't with the amount of people saying "shE wAs A RAt, sHe DeSErveD iT." This is easily one of the most horrifying deaths on the show; Ade may have been materialistic and a bit hypocritical, but overall she was a genuinely sweet, naive person who fell in love with the wrong guy. She was cornered by the FBI and forced to talk, but as the FBI literally says in this episode, she never even gave them any serious information. Also bear in mind that Ade was only Chrissy's girlfriend, she never swore any oaths or codes of silence like made guys do, and she probably didn't even understand the consequences of talking to the FBI. All this to say, this "Adriana deserved it" Tony wannabe bullshit is just ridiculous and shows that the point of the show, and this storyline, flew completely over your head.

    • @MsBee
      @MsBee Před 2 lety +43

      Yes, well said. If you don't come away from this show understanding that Tony, and almost every mobster, are actually spineless, pathetic, greedy, cowardly, sociopathic killers without honor, then you missed the entire point. Adrianna made it clear in the episode with Massive Genius that she didnt want to be "like Carmella". She didnt want to be a mob wife. She wanted to be part of the action with Chris. Chris mostly kept her out of it but gave her a night club front to run for the mob. She was involved but not as much as the FBI thought she was. She also appears to have been selling drugs. She had a sweet personality but she was really naïve. Hard to believe she had 2 uncles in the mob and didnt understand what the mob life was about. She ABSOLUTELY knew what talking to the FBI meant for her. She knew what kind of guy Chris was and what his friends were really like. She was greedy, shallow, and and stupid. The FBI was utterly incompetent in the way they handled her. She played with fire and got burned. Should have listened to her mom. Im not saying she "deserved" it but "associates" who talk to LEO's get whacked just like made guys do and she knew this. Its why she puked all over the interrogators.
      Chris also failed her by not teaching he what to do and not do if picked up by law enforcement.

    • @cecilia362
      @cecilia362 Před 2 lety +13

      @@hullbreach33 Really good points. She was by no means "innocent," as a lot of people call her, but I do think she had more redeeming qualities than most of the other characters. Your only point that I would argue is that she knew what kind of guy Chris was; she knew he was a killer, and that he was in the mob, but I highly doubt that she was aware of the extent of his sociopathy. She likely thought that Chris had only occasionally killed other people in the mob, people who "deserved it," and was completely oblivious to what happened with the waiter or the involvement of innocent people in their business. Overall, she was materialistic and greedy but not as much as other characters, as she was willing to give up "the life" to go into witness protection with Christopher. She is absolutely not the saint some people make her out to be but compared to the other characters, she is definitely the least evil.

      The Sopranos is Greek tragedy. The characters all chose to solve their problems in the worst way possible. Kill... be a killer's gf... etc. Their fates, though sad, were determined early when they chose (CHOSE) to become awful people.
      It's a key theme of the show and I can't believe it has flown over so many viewers' heads.

    The FBI treated her horribly. The first time the feds detained her, they essentially told her that both her and Chris would be disappeared by Tony if she didn’t cooperate. They threatened/insinuated if she was arrested for selling drugs out of the club, Tony would find out about how Ade brought an undercover fed into his home during Sunday dinner. The whole situation was so fucked up.

    I heard a neat fact about this episode about that one shot where Adriana is driving alone, seemingly escaping the mob then snaps back to reality where she's in the car with Sil. Apparently, she DID escape the mob and escape happily ever after originally, but it was decided that she would be killed after that sequence had been filmed. So they recycled the shot into a daydream, with Ade hoping for a future that isn't possible. Not sure as to how true this is because I can't find where I originally heard it, but it's an interesting idea to play around with.

    • @84blizzle
      @84blizzle Před 2 lety +5

      I do know that the scene where Chris goes to Tony's to tell him about Adriana was originally shot for this episode. • @BookshelfQBattler

      If that's true then Ade basically knew the car ride was to her death but she loved Chrissy enough she didn't want to take the chance of not seeing him if he did need her help, but secretly, she knew what was up and wished she had just jumped in her car and drove to the airport after Tony called.

    I'm getting tears in my eyes just watching this, I honestly hated this episode so much b/c of what happened to Adriana. I really loved her character and was horrified that Chris would give her up like that & allow her to be murdered. This is the episode that really changed my opinion of Christopher definitely but kind of the show in general. I still loved it, don't get me wrong, but...not sure how to explain it. I finally realized just how dark it was and kind of evil. Which is probably naive of me to not have realized it sooner. But literally all Adriana wanted was to be with Christopher, she loved him SO much and to think in her last moments she'd know how he betrayed her in the ultimate way just really broke my heart. It kind of changed my opinion of Tony and Sil too, I just really hated everyone that was involved. I mean I know she did work with the Feds but she wouldn't even wear a wire for Christsakes and really didn't give them anything. I feel like she was as loyal as she could be and she was such a sweet person. Well, Christopher didn't deserve her that's for damn sure. I can believe the cat is her, I've heard people say the cat was Christopher (or were they saying that in the show?) Makes much more sense that it would be Adriana.

Although it seems like they would have had the cat fuck with Sil if it was supposed to represent Adriana. But Paulie was the only one that seemed to care that the cat was fixated on Chrissy's pic. Then again, Paulie did have the most volatile relationship with Chris. We also know that Paulie has always been susceptible to the supernatural, and it's hilarious, so I see why they choose Paulie to be the one that gets upset. She came from a mobbed-up family. She was the niece of Jackie (Sr.) and Richie Aprile. Of course that means that she was also Jackie Jr.'s cousin, which probably helps explain why she was, well, kinda stupid.

      On one hand, she's not that innocent. On the other hand, a) she was ignorant of the law and talked into thinking she had to cooperate by the FBI when she never had to b) she refused to wear a wire when most of these mob pricks, if cornered, would have. Ray did. Pussy did. Hate to say it but if the Feds ever picked up Sil, Paulie, Patsy or any of the other crooks and offered them a deal to avoid a life sentence, they'd totally wear the wire.

    i watch every upload as soon as they come out, and i appreciate the work you do on these videos, but.. i do kind of wish you went a *little* deeper with them, whether it be analysis or even more of your thoughts / opinions. i just wonder who these videos are really for, because you don't really add much to the episode for people who have already seen the show, but if they're for people who haven't seen the sopranos, then why wouldn't they just... watch the whole episode? not trying to be rude or disrespectful, just my thoughts as a viewer who's been here from when you were covering the first season. i'm happy to see you've grown so much, and again i appreciate your work, but it would be nice if things weren't so surface level.

    When Chris strangles Ade in this episode, it felt so much more visceral than any of the other times he'd hurt her. I really thought he was going to kill her right there. There'd been close calls before, but nothing like that.
    On a side note, I can't help but feel that Johnny Sack wasn't a very good boss any more than Tony himself was. Honestly, if he'd just agreed to Tony's terms here, he could have gotten what he wanted without any needless conflict and everyone would have gone home happy (except for Phil, but fuck Phil). Instead, he just had to go the extra mile to be a dickhead and make things worse with New Jersey. And I realize, Tony wasn't exactly in the right here either, but two wrongs don't make a right, and both Tony and Johnny, but especially Johnny, come out of this episode looking worse to me.

      this. There was no need to placate Phil, a real boss would have accepted this as the best option. Tony wouldn't have let him do those hits if he had any control over it, but he didn't. John was being unreasonable

    It was still sad to see Adrianna go, but she's not completely innocent. She knew who these people were. Ultimately, her undoing was loving Christopher and these people at expense of her own well being. Consider Raymond. He was ratting people as far back as season 3 without any remorse whatsoever. If Adrianna realized what a scumbag Christopher was as well as the others she could've provided real damaging information to the FBI to save her own hide.
