IPP survivor here Ricky. Licence free, living a decent enough life. I'm grateful for the much needed support, guidance and the belief in me from people I barely knew back then. And to those awe-inspiring, decent people who see the human being behind the stereotype, (behind the bars and beyond) who gave their time, wisdom, love and dedication to Doing The Next Right Thing. Always hope with belief brother.. ❤

I got a straight 15 for a tie up robbery, I was only slightly involved in. I was a junkie and used the card and sold the stuff and did enter the property but never saw or done anything. I was told to expect an IPP, I knew I was innocent if any real violent crime and knew I had an attitude cos of it. I said to my self, I'll do 10 and then swallow a handful of tablets. Luckily I got a straight, but I saw a dozen friends die and double that go mad and at least ten times that turn to drugs to cope. I couldn't have done it. I served 9 out of my 15 cow I was an arsehole and spent all of it angry and high, I had a "get out of jail" parcel in me on all my court sittings, cos I knew I'd fail all my paroles. I saw a kid of 17 get an IPP for a car jacking after a robbery, cos he pushed the driver away from the ignition, and it became aggregated. I saw another IPP fail cos he's done too many courses, his parole write up actually said " we believe you're doing these courses to get out, rather than better yourself. So we're refusing you. He had been in when I landed and was a B cat last I saw him, so probably still in when I left. I landed at dovegate, when monkey dust hit and saw almost all lifers end up in it. Good luck to you mate. Hope your probation is ok, cos mine is and helped me a lot. Sorry missed license free, so you done your 10 tear with no complaints? Damn

@martintodd9944 I did 11 years on license, no complaints to or from probation. I was straight up with them from the get go and they were really helpful. The thing is though, I really, truly wanted to improve my life and myself, and I think that must've been apparent, and I was honest about it. But that's not to say I didn't have a bit of circumstantial luck, and like I said; I had some pretty fucking awesome people help me along the way.

@@LiNoeliam93 my first PO agreed that I was mainly innocent, he came to see me before release and said something about me refusing to do courses and I asked if he'd read my file properly. He said yeah. I said "ok, flick to the victims initial statement" he looked at me and said " you weren't Infront of me when I read it. Sorry" I was 8 inches shorter than the attacker, wrong eye colour and wrong accent but cos I was on camera using the card, I was convicted of everything. I went not guilty, thinking the description would get me through it, but should have tried to admit part of it or something. When he realised it wasn't me, he just completely left me alone, quickly got me on monthly appointments and then phone appointments and never asked me to do a course. Even put me low risk to everything and still got me housed on release. I used to hate them back when I was using. I relapsed when my dad died and he ignored that till it went on too long and then just said, "it's got to the point now, when you must be starting to commit crimes again, or about to. So, I'm gonna start testing you next month" got clean straight away cos I still had a few year left. My second PO just seems to have read my file and just kind of checked in every now and then and completely left me alone. They used to be bastards lol

People serving IPPs for non-sexual offences may apply to have their probation supervision suspended after five years (recently increased from 4) from their initial release. All people serving IPPs can apply to have their licence removed after a period of ten years after their original release.

It's a disgraceful sentence Ricky. I read about a case recently where a lad stole a mobile phone and he's still in prison 15 years later!. It really is a disgusting sentence mate!. Thanks Ricky. 🤬👍

Im an IPP in the community and my probation officer has said that they've had notification of this upcoming IPP review but its only gonna take an IPP to get recalled for another horrendous offence and that may put doubt on their initial thoughts.
He keeps telling me that his five year old daughter is more dangerous than myself when she throws a tantrum and our meetings and phonecalls are just protocol.
He says despite being my supervising officer he could tell the powers that be that our meetings and calls are just wasting both of our time, but they won't listen?
I supposedly fit the criteria for my licence to be terminated as i've been out of prison since March 2019, but its a case of watch this space?

My honest unbiased opinion on the IPP sentenced, still-serving prisoners or out on licence/supervision; and since the fade-in-out, abandonment and burial of that draconian sentencing tool; They are nothing short of being Political Prisoners. It's an outrage that's been brushed under the carpet - along with the human lives with it - all too conveniently. They are Political Prisoners of The State.

2008 got IPP’ tariff of 4 1/2 years they had 15 years out of me! I’ve been out nearly a year and it’s hard’ No support’ No recognition’ and always looking over my shoulder! It’s destroyed me! Anyone who’s experiencing IPP knows the truth’ the trauma and the absolute hate it fills you with toward this corrupt system!

Hello Ricky i got a 3 year dpp detention for public protection just basically the young offender version of ipp i got it when I was 17 not having a clue what it was thinking I'm out in 3 years but ended up doing 8 years 10 months it's the no release date and parole time the worst i done all the courses on my sentence plan then at parole we want you to do this and that course now but one of them wasn't run at the jail i was in where i was happy and not to far from home so had to wait 5 months to get moved to a jail what done the course then when I got there the was a nearly 1 year waiting list to do it you just can't win hopefully this law comes through and we can all get our licences removed

My mate got a four year ipp for repeat offender (commercial burglar) he spent nearly 11 years locked up and after his release after a couple of months he took his own life.
Such a shame. Good to hear you talking about it Ricky.

Kin Hell I feel for you Ricky and all of the other ex prisoners that have been rehabilitated. I can't imagine what it's like to have something like that hanging over you.
Hypothetically speaking if you were out one night and someone picked a fight with you then you are screwed.
Maybe someone should start a petition or something.

Hi Ricky, I’ve now watched a few of your videos regarding the disgusting IPP situation. I admire your dedication to highlighting it as I was totally unaware of the situation but have learned a lot from your videos. It’s not as if I’m a stranger to “the system” but thankfully my journey was over before this sentence was introduced. Keep highlighting it please as something needs to be done. Well done for turning your life around too 👍

So what the heck IS an IPP??? Interesting talk but about what? No explanation of the term IPP for ignoramuses like myself who are not familiar with prison life and jargon. Please! 🤔

IPP ‘ Imprisonment for the protection of the public.
Introduced 2005 by labour government’ people sentenced to this was given relatively short tariffs however ever stayed years over. The government abolished it in 2012 as it was deemed inhumane and unlawful’ however never made it retrospective meaning those who had it were stuck with it! Some people were only sentenced to 12 months tariffs and have now served 19 years! Not being released because their mental health has deteriorated due to the fact of having no hope of release! It’s literally a pick and mix if you get out! Hope that helps.

Everyone who is still in jail on ipp or ipp recall should be released and maybe do 2 years probation then let them be free..it was a stupid idea the ipp..the jails didn't have the courses for them to complete and the judges were giving them out for stupid offences or a third time offence.many young men i seen in 06 when i was inside on the ipp.god knows if they're still in the system as I've been out now for 15 years.

    What is IPP?
Do you think that every prisoner is capable of rehabilitation or are there classifications that are irredeemable? I'm not looking to argue but I'm genuinely interested. Ok, some of my queries were sorted by the end of the clip. Thanks.

Hi big man, my big brother was in and out of jail his whole life, he hung himself in Edinburghs saughton prison, he met a beautiful woman who was a nurse and sorted his life out, he was addicted to drugs and with help from her he went on a methodone programme, he was out on licence, which I don’t understand, he tried to help his pal out and let him stay with him and his wife, he the pal broke into houses and hid jewellery in my brothers house police searched my brothers home and found stolen gold my brother got took into jail in a bank holiday, knowing he was getting a five year sentence hung himself, l miss him so much, ❤❤
