    Have you heard of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour? It was another anthology show from about 10 years ago.
    This episode is the first thing I thought of when I saw "Toy Train". It's basically the same premise, except instead of a conductor, the ghost is a boy with a bike.

      I am aware of The Haunting Hour, but I never saw it when it aired. It might be a fun series to visit after I finish reviewing AYAOTD and Goosebumps. It was made more for teens, wasn't it?

      @@JackOfAllNerdsShow Oh yeah, it is. There were parts that would freak any younger kid out more than AYAOTD ever did (e.g. a medieval-set 2-parter where the guy's eyes are magically removed)
      A few episodes were duds, but overall the show was pretty good!

    I wonder if that conductor is still a ghost at the end, or he just became a lonely old man (alive once again) wandering on the train tracks forever.

    Your version is better than the version we received, though not the worst AYAOTD episode. Ray made a great ghost and villain, due alot to not looking obviously dangerous. Sadly, the last Frank story, for the series, as he moves before the next episode! In real time, Frank's actor left to finish High School and go to college! Thanks for another great review. Happy healing! #90s

    It's best to just copy/paste what I said in my doc doing mini reviews of the episodes:
    "We end on one with a bit of a mix rep, with some not liking it and creator DJ Mac Hale loving it while noting it doesn’t get a lot of attention. I’m a bit in the middle as I think it’s good but flawed. It can be dull in the first half, with some dead space. It doesn’t make a lot of sense with how Ray Lawson the conductor can control people. We get his backstory but it doesn’t quite connect to that.
    The train magic is vaguely defined and kind of corny and the dead dad stuff could have connected better. Ray has no connection to this so while it is a tad important, it’s tied together in the strongest ways. That said, there is a charm to it. It has a whimsical vibe that does make it seem more for a younger audience which can make it a bit saccharine at times so I see how that can turn people off.
    But you gotta be a grump to not get into it at least a bit. There are some nice moments here, like with the brother. The music is good with it being playful even as things get sinister. I like that we get another adult that gets involved. The climax is good and the ending works fine here. I feel bad cuz I should love this like DJ does but the flaws hold it back. Still, I did enjoy it for what we get, even if it could have been tighter. It’s heart is in the right place, at least."

    I would admit this isn't a good episode, but as a kid i was always happy when it came on. I think the reason why was I liked trains as a kid, and the protagonist was my age when this show first aired. I even had his same sweatshirt. So often in this dhow the younger kid is the secondary character.

    • @JackOfAllNerdsShow
      @JackOfAllNerdsShow  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah, I was never really into trains as a kid. Funny enough, I'm more into trains as adult than I was as a kid. I'm also obsessed with the idea of having an entire room decked out with a Lego cityscape or a giant model set like we see in that episode.

    As a fan of some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals, I appreciate the “Starlight Express” and “Cats” joke. My personal niche interest is singing opera and musicals indoors. If I had my own indoor theatre, like Marie Antoinette style, I would never leave. :) I’m all for all children learning not only about stranger danger but multiple forms of self defense, including legally and responsibly getting gun training, obtaining a gun permit and responsibly buying and owning/using their own legal firearms or taser, as well as learning, “wax on, wax off.” As for this episode, it was another missed opportunity for some creepy train horror stories. Heck “Ghostbusters 2” did a better job at this in 1 scene - 1 scene! Effort people, it’s not that difficult to do! Hell, the Large Marge scene is more effective! So basically the villain Ray is like the Kane character from “Poltergeist” film series - I actually agree with your recommendations, but would interject some scares and gore. Overall, as it is, it’s a boring episode, IMHO but another great review and look forward to the next one which is a goodie! RIP to your eye, btw and keep on chugging along life’s track waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel. (Yeah, a bad train and Starlight Express pun!)
