- I take a look back at the 1991 geography game show for kids, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?". I cover the computer game, the conception of the game show, the cast, the music, the production, and the show's success. After the retrospective, I give a comedic recap of the episode: The Williamsburglary and present of snippet of my Sean Altman interview.

You what made the bonus round REALLY hard is that from the contestant's perspective, the map is upside down. And if you got the Africa or Asia map you were screwed!!
For real! I'll bet the kids who got the United States gave themselves an invisible high-five.
Even then though the USA which if you failed THAT you would have to have been brain dead proved tough on them too especially when it turned into North America
Lynn Thigpen. I watched the Warriors growing up and I thought to myself "Wait a minute, there's something familiar about that voice and those lips." LOL
Holy crap, that was her! That just blew my mind.
Great retrospective so far! I briefly remembered bits & pieces of that show on PBS as a child. But, didn't watched entirely unfortunately. I believe the cartoon show based on it was the one I remembered the most.
Yes, the cartoon was "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?" which is basically the same name, but they probably wanted to differentiate it from the game show. I remember it a bit, but I don't think it's one that I saw a lot of.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow Have you Heard of Brainsurge from Nickelodeon?
@@racheljackson4428 I have not, but I'm excited for you to tell me more.
This was great! I wish you’d do a retrospective on Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Haha! I think AYAOTD gets enough of my attention.
I might have an AYAOTD addiction!
Love that show ❤ I have season 1-3 on dvd. ❤
Growing up outside of the US, I didn't know about this game show until years later. I did watch the animated series which has a kick ass theme song of its own ( that I only now learned is based on a piece by Mozart).
Yeah, I remember that theme song being more operatic, if that makes sense. Still great though.
Great work! I swear this show was like a fever dream. I don't remember much of it, but I remember it was pretty good.
The cartoon version as well.
Yeah, I feel like most things connected to the Carmen Sandiego brand have been pretty good. I didn't watch all of the more recent Neflix cartoon, but what I saw of it was pretty good too.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow Gina WAS AWESOME!
My childhood! Very humorous and well made vid, acting as a companion piece to a walk down memory lane! Thanks for posting! #90sKid
Thank you! I had a lot of fun making this one.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow It shows. Fun show, fun people, fun review! #nostalgia
Jane’s Addiction…no shit? No wonder I loved that theme song so much. Even though I think for the duration of the show’s run, my music collection consisted of dubbed copies of my dad’s Beatles tapes, and that Rockapella album.
Yeah, that's crazy! I loved hearing about the origin of the theme song.
Did you know that YOU can spot the Aston Martin in one of the Carmen Sandiego games? also the Defunctland tv episode discussed the Carmen Sandiego franchise.
Haha! I'm sure many CZcamsrs have covered all the things I cover on this channel. I got into this stuff way late in the game.
My favorite show as a kid. I still have my Rockapella CDs (yes I'm that old) and list often.
I don't know what is more impressive; that you have cds or that you have a means to still play cds. I actually own a ton of cds, but have absolutely no way to play them anymore.
Well, they have to change the song a little bit. The old version has a line that goes "from Chicago to Czekoslovakia... and back!", which doesn't exist anymore. However, it can be fixed to "from Chicago to Czechia, Slovakia... and back."
Of course! Make the lyrics geographically and geopolitically correct, but you can't lose that sound and it looks like you already made it work. You're hired for my reboot that will never happen!
Loved this show!!
It was so good!
Love how you dress that part.
Thank you!
Bring this show back. BTW, you’d make for a good replacement for Greg Lee as the Recruiter. It would be ironic if Greg was the new chief too. BTW, catchy kids tv show theme songs are subjective so don’t feel bad if you have more than one.
We had the game at our school! It was probably the first PC game I ever played. Either Carmen or Prince of Persia. Ah to be a kid in the 90s, those were the days!
I loved the original Prince of Persia! I was terrible at it, but I I always loved the look of the game. Top notch for an 80s pc game, in my opinion.
😊 I had the game
And, were you good at it?
They asked the kids what they wanted in a game show. Turns out, they yearned for a cappella singing & beat boxing. 😂
It's something that more game shows could stand to include. Could you imagine Rockapella doing the Jeopardy theme song?
Crazy how many special guests they had on this show. I loved this show as a kid but man, did you really have to be a geography expert to get through that show. I should have read more NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC WORLD.
Haha! Just think, if you were good enough at geography to get on the show, you got a Nat Geo subscription for free. They should've given that subscription to all the kids who failed to get on the show.

Can you do Cash Box next and Figure Out.
Simple man here...I see A video on my favorite kids game show of all time: W.I.T.W.I.C.S
I WILL CLICK THE HELL OUT OF THIS VIDEO SHARE, AND LIKE IT.
And I appreciate you!
I don't know if my wife watched this as a kid but I did and I really enjoyed it even though my geography is horrible haha 😂
Haha! That was the magic of this show. You didn't have to be good at geography to love it.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow true and my wife did watch the show I asked her yesterday
Can you do Hidden pictures or something like that. Also that video game shows. Also guts.
I will look into those. My next retrospective will probably be on a non-game show though to break things up a bit.
Why do you remind me of the game show reviewer
I don't know who that is, but I hope it's a good thing.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShowHe was and it is good you cover some old game shows like him, but he has not made any recent videos, unlike you. Why? I don’t know.
Can you do wild and crazy kids
Nice suggestion! I loved Wild & Crazy Kids.
@JackOfAllNerdsShow the other show I was thinking of I think it was called Finders Keepers or something like that. Maybe you can look into that show 2.
Can you do what will you do.
They should get another black actress similar to play the part..
I vote for Janet Hubert Whitten, who played the first Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for the first three seasons of the show from 1990-1993.
I always okaywd along with the gane ahow and 95% of the rime would win by at least points. Granted I was a rarher knowledgeable young man and was also able to usually do well at adult Jeooardy episodes.
I was just as bad at Jeopardy as I was at this show. Wheel of Fortune was more my speed.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow my mum loves Tipping Point as well as Letters and Numbers.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShowMy husband Frank is the same way, but Jeopardy and Where in the World and Where in Time is more my speed.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 my mom and I also watched Supermarket Sweep a lot.
