    I finally found the combination on my old lock! this video series was, by far, the most helpful. It gives you a nice understanding of the reasoning behind the technique. I found this more helpful than just blindly following instructions without an understanding of the reason for it. Thank you so much, I spent several hours and was ready to give up. I had one of the smaller colored locks that are more difficult. the breakthrough for me came when I went to the store and purchased a similar lock for $7. Practicing the techniques in this video on a lock with a known combination was extremely helpful and ultimately lead to my success.

    I've been through several different videos where people have tried to explain how to do this and it's always been just bits and pieces of the full picture. Having seen the inside of the lock with your video and now understanding the mechanics behind how it works in each position, I was able to follow this video to find the right combination to a random lock in my home . I'll be honest, I was shocked when the shackle opened (on the very last middle number in my list of 10 possibilities of course). This was fun and thanks for teaching me something new!

    These 4 videos are excellent. The best explanations ever. I found that the little finger on the shackle retention clip interacts with the bump on the first wheel to move the wheel as the shackle goes by. This allows the unit to relock when the shackle is pushed back down.
    Thanks Again

    I watched three different people do videos on three different ways to pick these locks, and it appears your way is the best. I haven’t tried it yet, but the information that you provide on the offset numbers, the others did not.

    This series of four parts is the first one that worked for my small (but normally colored chrome / black) Master lock. Getting the first number on these smaller locks is tricky and this series is the only one I found so far that covered it.

    Thanks! I had a Brinks combination padlock (Pat 418,392) that I thought I had the combination to, but it wasn't working. I was able to shim the lock open and view the edge of the disks through the shackle hole. Using your description of how the locks work, I was able to determine the code. (The actual combination was 5 less than where the cutouts were relative to the dial.) Strangely, the combination I had was about one or two digits less on each number from the working combination. I was very surprised that a combination one digit off from the "true" combination wouldn't work, since a comparable Master Lock is known to have a 4-digit slop.

    I have an old lock, sitting around for many years. After spinning my wheels for about an hour or so I applied the back and forth technique to parse the resistance points on the first number. This was the only video that I watched with a decent enough explanation for it to make sense what your doing. As a mechanical engineer, I was not interested in giving up. It turned out my first number resistance point was about third in line in terms of relative cogging resistance, but the back and forth technique uncovered it in about 20 seconds. Many thanks.

    Hi again,
    A follow up to my prior comment. I have 6 master "practice locks" that I bought at a flea market 20 years ago. They didn't have the combinations so I shimmed then to get open. I lined up the wheels by viewing down the shackle whole. That lined up the wheels at the 10 o'clock position (viewed from the front). I just subtracted an equal amount of digits from each of the three combination numbers to bring the alignment point (wheel slots) to under the spring loaded fence (around the 2 o'clock position). Then the lock opened AND I now had the combo.
    I tried your method to get the first number. The method worked on one of the 6 locks. On the other 5 locks, I found that as I pulled on the shackle, the spring loaded fence hit the false gates on the 3rd wheel before the shackle retainer rubbed against the bump on the 1st wheel. I measured the interference points on the shackles. In most cases, the shackle needed to be pulled out an additional 1/16" from the 3rd wheel false gate interference point to reach the 1st wheel bump interference point.
    Did you ever experience this condition?
    Thanks Again

    Congrats!
    I gave up, so I removed the cover and through a visible hole I got a combination lined up and applied an ofset to get the code, despite this, I was able to guess the third number and the rule for the second number worked fine, but I could not get the first number.
    However, by brute force and assuming that I get the third number correct, it would be 40x10 = 400 combinations.

  • @bige5118
    @bige5118 Před 6 lety +1

    On the second number, wait for the catch and SUBTRACT 4-5 DIGITS, since it's counter clock, same principal as first and third numbers, apply pressure and listen in the case of 5 being ur middle digit u will hear a metal on metal sound around ten and looseness at 10-4, you guessed it 5or6, either will suffice

    There's a lot easier way to do that. Figure out the first number just like you said, spin the door one full rotation in the opposite rotation, when you get to the first number moderately pull on the shackle and then slowly turn the dial until the dial stops moving completely, and then again with moderate pressure on the shackle, turn it down the other direction until the shackle pops open... And yes I know this is the internet and that they will probably be a bunch of people who will want to argue with, but I am a licensed locksmith he's been doing this for over 10 years so I don't give a shit what you have to say so don't even worry about trying to argue.

    So my lock is newer and doesn't have that hole in the back at like 11 o'clock. I do have the vertical opening where the longest part of the catch is, so I can peek into it and line up all 3 grooves with the hammer thing. Thank you! Couldn't get the back piece put back in place lol but don't think anybody at my gym will be looking anyway. All 6 videos I watched to try and get my combo were SO WRONG.

    For example, I turn clock wise and as I turn it I get 3,6, and 9 and the correct one would be the 6. The rest of it is turning smoothly. If I didn’t know the combination what I would I do with that for the first number?

    My first # was 28 +5 =33
    I tried all the tricks watching other vids and couldnt get it to open.
    The second # that sticks or that I could feel with pressure was 20 . So I just subtracted 5 from 20 =15 and forced the last # and presto 33 15 30
    So if anyone is having problems try it ...I have no idea why it worked but it did.
    Turning counter clockwise should cause you to find a number that sticks and wont move. That was my second # which I took away 5 digits .
    If this was all by chance that freaking weird 😂

    I have one of the smaller version master combos, and the digits don't satisfy the relationship: 23-32-21. I could still use the techniques in these videos to get the 1st and 3rd numbers (ignoring that they should be equal mod 4). Thoughts?

    • @bmenrigh
      @bmenrigh  Před 4 lety

      Weird is that the numbers that came from the factory? Like you have those numbers printed by Master on the sticker? Physically speaking every number in the combination is actually not perfectly aligned with the numbers on the dial and is about 2 numbers wide. So if the real combination from the factory were 22-32-22 then your combination of 23-32-21 would still work. It's also possible that Master is making changes in their latest batches of locks?

  • @l1ght7ear2020_yt

    4:56 so the 1st number and last number always multiples of 4 off from each other, the 2nd number is always some multiple of 4 plus *2* off from each other. Including O x 4

      Reading this and watching him do it got me my 2nd number. My first and 3rd number were 9 and 39.. when he said the first and last are always multiple of 4 (9 and 39 are only 1 away from 10 and 40; so it works). Then to find my second number I went from 9 to 11 then 39. When that didn't work I went from 11 to 15 for my 2nd number cause he said add 4 (I wasn't doing that at first I was going by 2s). 15,19,23,27,31,35, then 39 was my 2nd number. 19,39,29. I knew it was this but I was switching the numbers around but never got it in that order

    I have a "Red" Master Lock with the working combination of (27-4-33) which does not appear to follow all the rules. I can find the last number "33" OK. It has 40 numbers om the dial. This lock is quite old & 1 7/8" diameter. Am I missing something. It looks identical to the "Black" locks.

    • @bmenrigh
      @bmenrigh  Před 4 lety

      Yes starting sometime in 2018 Master changed the design of the internal wheels a bit to add more possible combinations and to eliminate the restriction that the numbers have a specific relationship modulo 4. You can still feel for the last number and get it exact and you can usually feel for the first number and get it approximately but you won't know if the middle number is offset by 2 from the first two anymore.

    Doesn't work with my brinks. First number is -5 from where it sticks. Last number requires heavy tension to find... all others will grind but the true last number is free with heavy tension. Middle number is easy enough to bruteforce.

      This technique only works for Master brand dial combo locks. I'm sure Brinks also has similar tricks to decode but they will depend on the specific mechanism and construction of their locks.
