Your reaction is raw and genuine, don't apologize for being real! Love your reaction!!!❤❤❤
It's a about life in general. Everybody suffers in their own way. He's portraying that. Not necessarily drugs. It could be anything.
@@elizabethferrari1346this song is life❤
You're not "off-topic." You're spot on. You're a beautiful man.
One of the most powerful performances ever.. the words.. the posture.. his wardrobe.. its all intentional to make you see the whole picture.. brilliant performance
I watch Tool reactions religiously, like every day one of my favourite things to do is once I get home from work and walking my dog, the earbuds go in and i watch someone fall in love with Tool. This reaction is one of my favourites so far. Thanks for your honesty and stories. Give Pneuma a go. Not the live version yet, just the studio version. You won't stop after that. Looking forward to the next one. Spiral out, brother. 🌀
This is what I do too. It's inspirational.
Its Carl Jung that i believe speaks of "the shadow" which the lyrics are loosely based around i think i read. And stepping through and embracing your shadow.
This song helped me get sober from a 10 year cocaine addiction. Tool has been a tool in my life to get better. And grow. And learn. they opened my eyes and mind. forever will love and thank them for that.
I beleive you may be thinking of their song 46 & 2 which heavily references Jung's topic of "shadow".
The more you react to tool, the sooner you'll realize you've been reacting to your favorite band all along :) great reaction my man
Don’t apologize for being emotional, man. Music is beautiful that way.
Maynard was playing the characters of the addict & addiction itself, imo.
Powerful song.
Tool are the GOATS.
Great reaction.

🌬😈🌀😜🤘
I get emotional every time I listen to Tool They’re genius.
I'm privileged to hear your story and your direct relation to the song. Thanks for sharing and you have TOOL army support as a new lifetime member.
Transported and possessed...touched and emotional. Tool never dissapoints.
It's rare that I would recommend the official video over a live performance, but you really should check out the official video of this song if you haven't already.
You are a perfect fit for T00L. T00L is a perfect fit for humans like you. The T00L Army welcomes you!
I have seen them 7 times and it is such a spiritual experience.
Your words are pretty healing too man! Well done!
Anyone who has ever NEEDED and WANTED to "sleep forever" or "never sleep" knows this man's pain. I cant listen to this song very much. It hits too hard.
Thank you for ur honesty
Thanks for such personal words and showing other's that they can overcome and be sober. ❤
Don't apologize! Tool is forces you to take a journey into the deepest parts of your soul. After decades of listening to them I still have a profoundly intense emotional reaction to their music. The lead singer also leads the band Perfect Circle, which is equally mind blowing.
Parabol and Parabola are two great Tool songs that you have to listen to together, Parabol runs directly into Parabola so they need to be heard as one song. This is a beautiful duo, the lyrics are so beautiful about our choosing to be here and how this life is a spiritual journey.
This about someone who wants to drink all not to show up for work he wants him sober great all round
All Tool songs are about getting closer to you spiritual self and getting away from the matrix.
"I am just a worthless liar, I am just an imbecile. I will only complicate you, trust in me and fall as well."
An addict talking to themself.
This is EXACTLY how my “addiction” to Tool started!!!
About the lead singer: he's a US Army vet, and when he went thru Basic and AIT school, etc, he did SO well, the Dept of the Army offered him a full ride scholarship to the most prestigious military school on the planet with that being West Point...he turned it down to pursue music...Maynard is an absolute savage...🤘🏻🇺🇸
Ngl lately been my guilty pleasure watching new Tool fans being born
Thank you for sharing this reaction. Never apologize for being genuine ❤
They are so good live!
I think every addict can relate to this song, thanks for reacting!
I don't believe it's just about addicts. It's about life in general. Anything can make you suffer. That's what he's portraying I believe.
He embodies the lyrics he sings. Friend went to a tool show Said Maynard Face a wall the whole time on stage and at first he was like tf is this. And he said by the end of the concert he understand the meaning behind it.
This hits way harder when you actually struggled with addiction
Just wanted to add I turned 62 this Oct 11th SOBER for the 1st time in decades!! Yea!!!! U can do this!!
God bless you 🙏 Great reaction. Love the honesty.
That was a fantastic reaction. Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone and congratulations on your sobriety. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.
Speak your mind bro, that’s what the music is for. we all have a past.
This song made me a Tool fan! Those of us who truly understand the lyrics……. Enough said…… WE CAN AND DO RECOVER!!!!
This song was made for you, without you even knowing. I appreciate you.
Maynard is a true artist, his performances are meant to make you think and feel. Your genuine reaction is moving, and there is power in that. Stay strong and keep fighting ❤
This is the best most honest reaction to Sober that I’ve seen. I wish you the very best dude 🌀We’re so proud of you 👏🏼 x
This long time Tool fan is certainly more about the music than the vocals, but MJK here is next level performance art. Genius!
I've really enjoyed your honesty and reactions. I hope you continue with the Tool journey.
I absolutely love this man’s spirit. Stay blessed bro awesome reaction
When you have any sort of history with substance abuse this song just cuts right through you. I drink too much so I listen to this to help motivate me to chill out on that
No judgment from the Tool army. It's all about self reflection and growth...sounds like you're digging in deep and that's beautiful ❤
Let it out man...good for you. So much of their music is an out of body experience. It's no joke that their music is a tool for growth.
I love watching people see this for the first time. I can tell the depth of thier soul when they see Maynard and the song hits them. The head nodding stops the eyes widen the jaw opens. Don't apologize for being real brother cause I feel you.
I love watching people watch Tool. I love bonding with a stranger that doesn't even know im bonding with them. ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I commented yesterday that Forty Six & 2 was the #2 song on my lengthy Tool playlist, this is #3. Tool is a journey, and an adventure, and a rapture, and a truth all in one.
Hey. Love you, my brother.
TOOL has many deep, healing tunes. You wouldn't think prog rock could be healing, but TOOL proves it can. I like to think of them as Priests of Sonic Truth. They are not afraid of going deep into the human condition, and I have personally found their music to be therapeutic.
The shadow is in reference to Sigmund Freuds "The Shadow". It refers to the darkness that lives within all of us and the acceptance of this darkness allows us to overcome it and keep it at bay rather than be all-consumed by it. 10/10 would recommend looking into it!
Got me tearing up bro! Thanks for this reaction
Shout out to all the James s out there 💪🔥🎸
You are one of the most raw, genuine men I have ever encountered. Tool always brings out my hidden emotions. Amazing
Lateralus and Right in Two gotta be next!
Maynard is a huge fan of Karl Jung who was a psychiatrist who said you have to incorporate and overcome all the negative sides of your "shadow self" to be a healthy person. That's why he talks about shadows alot.
I know that's a cursory explanation but you can read online for more information.
Some of us who feel this way won't be around for long so the reaction resonates 🙏
I think the song is about addiction and what it does to the addict. How it makes them turn into a monster. Betraying others, chasing the high. The guilt, the inner monologue an addict has.
This is what this song is for. To bring out the real the raw. Appreciate your reaction. Appreciate you brother. I felt it too.
Every time that I watch this video on my phone, I bend it just a bit more because I'm gripping it so tight. The pain and frustration is so intense.
Usually when Tool talks about shadows they're referencing Shadow in the Jungian Psychology sense. The Shadow is the part of your consciousness that lies under the surface, whether it be parts of you that you cant accept, or just cant understand. Understanding and accepting The Shadow is the path to knowing who you really are, and consequently, true contentment.
YES! TOOL!
Goosebumps!! Everytime!! ❤
Maynard is a genius, this portrayal of addiction is an absolute work of art.
Enjoyed your reaction to it. Raw.
It still gives me chills
Maynard wrote this song about a friend of his with addiction problems.
AA and NA meetings. They are what saves lives.
I've been lucky enough to avoid most serious and detrimental addictions, but I've seen friends and others demolished by it. While I really enjoy this song, I can't imagine what it means to someone who has gone through it and come back out. Glad you connected so much with music, thats what great art is about. Finding your personal connection with the artists vision and the close the two are, the more impactful it can be. Happy for you and how you've traveling a different path in life now.
This song hit me like that too man. He's (Maynard) like a wounded but very angry animal in his demeanor. But his words are profound to anyone who *really* knows. Your tears show your strength and your resolve.
lot of reaction channels out there; youre one of the real ones. keep up the good work
Nailed it. ☝️☝️angel and demon fighting in his head
I’m watching this again living vicariously. Oddly enough another song. I don’t listen to metal like that but tool speaks to me somn bout it. I’m also rewatching this. Recognizing your emotions and vulnerability as bravery and I thank you. I was messed up. Hurting my family. I’ve went through rehab and all. Everyone should. Even if not drugs. Everyone’s addicted. Phones, media etc. it’s hard out here. Stay strong brother
Right In Two is a great song about Angels in heaven looking down and judging humanity. Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (Two track that need to be played together) is about DMT and Alien Abduction. SPIRAL OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The shadow is the addiction tapping him on the shoulder telling him to take the drug or drink.
You are my favorite song reactor dear James, & happy that you cover all son genres too! Thanks for your honesty and never be afraid to let your emotions out. Congratulations on your great progress in kicking the pills, and giving up alcohol! It is very hard, but you can do it. You have our love and support each day on your life journey. You will help many other people this way as well. Continued prayers for you. I noticed 'Mother Mary' in the lyrics too which made me happy. Sometimes good and evil get mixed-up in our brains, but hopefully we follow our dreams and make the right choices only we can to make our lives better. Take care. 🎉❤️💙💗🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹💐🌷💕💕🎵🎶🎼🎹🎤⭐️🎁🎁😇😇💗💙❤️🎉
Still loving your Tool reactions. Honest and real... not over hyped garbage from some others. Keep doing you bro, keep being you.
RATM has just been voted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame . Its Nov. 3rd 2023 for their induction. Finally the recognition of their politicaly charged and most AWAKE music that will last for years into new generations of youth that understand that Societal change then Love is the only way into the Future. Thanks for finding RATM and taking me on this fantastic RATM JOURNEY AGAIN!!❤ The group Rapper Zack de la Rocha(Mexican American) lead Electric Guitarist Tom Morello (African American) Tim Cummerford Electric Bassist Irish and Drummer Tom Wilks Native American Hindu Study man. These guys became the perfect voice of the voiceless calling for help. Next song listen to "Wake Up" and read the lyrics.
Powerful reaction to a powerful song. Thank you. I've known many people who are here now because they felt understood in their deepest, darkest moments by the music of TOOL. Your journey is just beginning. I love to see it! It's the next best thing to being there myself so many years ago. Keep digging🤘 46 & 2 next. Look up what 46 & 2 means first. It'll help
It's in the corner waiting consciously and sub consciously.
Bro, Tool is a live changing experience. It's a journey that will change your perceptions. Lyrical and sonic wizards!
You've always been 100% genuine and its very much appreciated. Pills is hard, and could kill you easily. I had been in a couple perilous situations myself. I'm glad you stopped. ♡
The song is about a writer friend of theirs who didn't believe he had creative potential unless he was drinking or using.
TOOL will be there for every single one of your emotions and then some. They are LEGENDARY. Beautiful video my friend. Stay strong.👊
The look on your face at the beginning was priceless. Shock morphing into deep intrigue. And I believe it was authentic. Great reaction!
Hold that line, my friend!
Thank you for opening up a bit about your story. I’ve been a Tool fan since ‘93 I was 13yrs old & I heard Sober on tv. They’ve been my fav band ever since, I’m 43 today. I’m glad I got to see u react to this song. Thank you for sharing. Off to the next tool song!
❤️🌀👊🏻❤️🌀👊🏻
This song means a lot because I struggle with addiction
The Shadow aka your dark subconscious mind aka the Evil Kermit meme.
The shadow isn't just negative...it is all the hidden parts of your psyche.
Get this though...in complete darkness and total light the effect is the same...you're blinded. So the subconscious is the shadow in which you cannot see AND the light that is so bright that you cannot see.
Look into Jung. He explains our shadow. 46 & 2 is basically the philosophy of his writings.
It's worth noting the lyrics are "why can't we not be sober?" like a double negative. It's certainly about the ravages of addiction though and I'm certainly glad you confronted your demons and came out stronger.
Hate to sound like everyone else. But. Welcome to the TOOL rabbit hole my friend. Love you and your realness mate.
No words. ❤
Bless your heart! I'm so proud of you getting clean!
This was a stunningly beautiful reaction. Truly. I could see you feeling it.
Sending mad love you way and holding you in my heart, brother.
It's not often i feel like i see a friend. Reach out if you feel like you need one.
if you wanna hear some fire lyrics from Tool listen to "Ænima" or "Pushit" 🔥
Me TOO darlin! I was on dilaudid for 33yrs!! EVERYDAY or sick as a dog! It took me a whole year n a half to get them outta my system. I went to 1 rehab after another for 10 mos cuz i was homeless living in a tent in the woods for several months (at 61 yrs old after living not just the "high" life but a wealthy 1 loosing everythg!! My half a million dollar home bought n paid for while in jail!) after my 4 siblings died from substance abuse! Then my dad n mom died of broken hearts no doubt ontop of just being in their 90's) I hvnt done an opiate now for almost 2 whole years! Good luck on yr journey n just know A LOT of us understand n our hearts r with u!
Thank you for sharing 🤗💙🌀
Haha every song makes me cry, their powerful performance is so full of emotions 😢also going through what we've been through, respect
As a former (hopefully) addict, I'm always interested in seeing how other former (hopefully) addicts react to this song. To me, it has always felt like that gnawing feeling that we get left with the second that we run out of our poison. Idk you, but keep up the strength. We can't not be sober. Our brains are wired for destruction otherwise
Im right there with you. I went through the same pill BS . Stay strong. Listen too " the package" by a perfect circle. That song changed my life
I do believe that meaning of the shadow on 46&2 and Sober is quite different. Check this video (with lyrics and and explanation of real context of it), hope you'll enjoy :)
Omg we all have two voices. One is God of the Holy Ghost who leads us into All truth … then we have the other voice on the other shoulder saying ahhh just do it it will all be ok,… that’s Satan he seems to give you an easier out but you pay for it in the end. I now know the first voice has NEVER LED ME WRONG! I’m glad you said that because what you say is true
I’m glad you’re off the pills! Me too! You got this!!!!
