This is my first and probably last reaction video. My daughter told me to watch the live video of the performance of SOBER.
This is one of the most epic performances of any band I have ever seen.

I recommend always having the lyrics pulled up because sometimes it's difficult to catch what Maynard is saying. Just react to the audio or concert videos. The actual music videos are pretty distracting for someone who's never heard the songs before.
I got to see them in San Antonio back in October 2019. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I really liked your reaction because it's cool to hear from a composer's point of view. I took music theory and piano way back in college. If you could keep it kind of simple, it'd be nice to hear you talk more about time signatures and key changes.
Glad to welcome you to the Tool Army!

With the exception of this Sober performance and the Danny Carey live drum cam video for Pneuma, I would stick to just the audio vids for their songs, and maybe have the lyrics pulled up.... I think you will appreciate them as well. Welcome to the Tool Army 🤗 🌀

The song The Grudge is rooted in the friction between the Catholic church and the rise of science. So yeah, he reads a lot. Adam is the one who made a lot of their videos. This performance is why the word "masterpiece" exists. I'm not generally a Tool fan but I've never seen a live performance better than this. He embodies the villain of addiction and the weak, pathetic feeling victim at the same time. The predator and the prey. And during the entire physical performance his singing is pure and overwhelming. This is what art is supposed to be about. Our understanding of the plight of addiction is explosively enlarged because some genius artists wrote and performed a song. Whether we've run afoul of it or not.

@Saqua2289 I call it focused strain. In rock/metal it is expected to somewhat distort the vocals so they align well with the instruments, in heavy metal it's total distortion. But this can be achieved several ways. Bending the body in half forces air to the top of the diaphragm. That helps distort the voice without constricting air. Hard to explain.

TOOL is the greatest band of all time. You will be glad you gave them a chance if you check out all their stuff not just the last 2 albums. They are good also. But this song is from their early work. I'm glad you found them. I honestly feel bad for anyone who never got to hear them, and for those who haven't given them a chance yet and may never do so. When I look back at my own life, TOOL , is probably the single greatest thing in life I think I experienced. That I wouldn't want to have missed out on. So it makes me happy each time someone finally discovers them.

The way Maynard James Keenan switches between soft and powerful vocals and his bandmates driving it home with the drums, base, and guitar is amazing. Even if someone isn't a fan of metal, they can appreciate range of sound and the way Keenan projects his voice.

Insane performance. They play in D and D# through the whole song and Maynard is basically making this song happen. You don`t even notice the first times you listen to it that the chorus and verses are in the same key because of him. It just confirms once again that less is more.

Ignore the noob requests for the recent drum cam, please. Tool has so much more to offer. Pneuma is just the melty chocolate and cream at the bottom of the sundae; get your fill of the main scoops while it's cold enough for the pain/pleasure sensation of brain freeze. Undertow, Lateralus, and 10,000 days first; or, you'll be sorry your bowl is full of milky soup and a soggy banana.

Just subscribed and liked. Okay, so you're going to want to react to A LOT of Tool, and make sure that you have the lyrics ready for each song because Tool is deep and philosophical. Looking at your channel, it seems like you are heavily into music and meditation, which will serve you well when it comes to Tool's music. I would suggest reacting to "Opiate", "Undertow", "Bottom", "Aenima", "Hooker With A Penis", "Eulogy", "Parabol/Parabola" and "Lateralus" as a starter. Dive into the lyrics, PLEASE. Continue reacting to Tool! Also: I would suggest using a good set of headphones for your reactions as to fully submerse yourself in their music.
    Vocalist: Maynard James Keenan
    Drummer: Danny Carey (The Octopus)
    Guitarist: Adam Jones
Bassist: Justin Chancellor (original bassist was Paul D'Amour)

I got to see TOOL years back.. The indoor stage was incredible. Psychedelic images and coloring, projected on a HUGE back drop. Danny was front center. Guitar off to the left rear. Maynard up high to the right. 2 naked people hanging from the ceiling by their feet. 1 male, 1 female. They would spin and rotate, come together... The whole performance. Was amazing to experience.

This song is one of the most top 40 "pop" type songs of theirs. Being a meditative man, it seems, their new album is for you. They have some jams that really take you to anothern place. I recommend the album 10,000days as well but the meditative long form music was only being born during that album, with "Fear Innoculum", they have ascended into the form they hold now.

Geebz this was my first reaction video of yours (a couple years ago), and I've watched nearly all of yours since. I believe you said you had listeners recommend a more professional setup, and so you heard them and fixed your entire setup. But MAN I have to say going back and hearing this first one was awesome. It seems so raw, unfiltered and punk rock, I love it! From time to time I'll come back and watch this one. Don't get me wrong what you do now is WAY better, more professional, you could never go back and it seem this raw again knowing what you know, and that's ok.
