John, I assume you're going to mention that woman that recently died who looked emaciated and was obviously restricting calories and was obsessive to the point of insanity. They always pick the people that don't do things in a balanced way to try and discredit the raw or just vegan diet. Why don't people point to you, the pinnacle of health and experience concerning a raw foods diet? Orthorexia is the extreme obsession with being clean and only eating clean foods. There's a difference between you and an orthorexic. I think you're the best raw foods channel there is. I've been watching you for 8 years, and you make the best raw foods videos.

Excellent info, the best I've heard! I've been on raw vegan for years and have failed due to all the reasons you went over. After struggling with health issues, through intuitive eating my body has gravitated backc to a raw vegan diet but with a much different mindset. I no longer have that black and white thinking, that I was so programmed to believe by the health "gurus" , but am now more in tune to "listening" to the needs of my body. The body is very "intelligent" and knows best what it needs and will lead you to health if you gve it a chance. I didn't choose a raw vegan diet by choice, but after a string of health issues, my body naturally gravitated towards it by being the only foods I can tolerate and thrive by.

Thank you for your down to earth, realistic approach, suggestions, and teachings. You're grounded, and that is one thing many raw foodists lack, and which I myself have struggled with when attempting to go fully raw. Your approach makes it seem more accessible, EMOTIONALLY safer, balanced. You've made an old topic seem more do-able for those of us who don't have community support of like minded eaters to share the process/choices/meals with. I do it all alone, making food and health decisions that are different from everyone around me, and this video just made me feel supported! Especially thank you so much for addressing the unspoken mental health unbalanced eating/thinking that borders (or dives deep) into disordered eating. I've always seen it in the raw food community, and it has turned me away from raw foods living time and time again. It is so refreshing to hear you call out the unhealthy nonsense! In gratitude❣️

He definitely does provide a balanced approach. Many raw foodists have an all or nothing mindset. It's good to see amore balanced approach. That's why I also started my own Raw Vegan Channel. A more realistic approach is badly needed in the Raw Vegan Space. Okraw does a great job.

There are a lot of things that resonated with me in this video. I started changing my diet at age 40 because of all the crazy things that normally start at that age from not eating well. I watched and followed so many things from different "teachers" and ultimately I came to the conclusion that not everyone had all the answers and have been eating well and not so well...I am at a point where I can tell what my body is communicating with me and the choices I make determines how my body communicates and reacts. One of the things that I think would have been good to present is how "detoxing" can sometimes make you think that you're not on the right path and create fears in people...any changes cause stir in oneself (can be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) and recognizing that unpleasant things arise and to continue moving forward with courage is super important. One thing that made me pause about the "microbiome" test...I think our microbiome changes on a daily basis and so the microbiome test should be taken everyday for at least a week so see the true representation of the current microbiome situation? What are your thoughts on this?

A few days ago there was a news article regarding Zhanna Samsonova, she died of a raw food diet, which seemed to have be mainly fruits....however her mother claims she died of a cholera alike infection. There is a Bild article about this case, really sad news. Actually, the risk of dying among raw foodist is higher I guess, because I believe most people turn to a raw food diet in order to get healthy from a disease, so most of raw foodists already have an issue while starting with the new raw food diet.

John, thank you for putting out this video. I"m a 49 year old mom with 2 young boys age 9 and 12. And on top of that I had stage 3/4 uterine cancer. I had the hysterectomy and that got rid of 99 % but 3 nodes and a little mass is still hanging around in my body in spots that cannot be surgically removed. It's been 810 days since I was diagnosed in that ED visit. And my boys are Asian/Hmong but grew up eating pretty much an American Diet because I'm a really busy mom so you got the burger king, chicken nuggets, french fries, etc...along with asian foods. So both are overweight and so I'm tackling trying to get them on the right path. Since my Cancer scare, my boys are much more open to eating greens. They ONLY green they like is of course broccolli. But hey, better than NOTHING. So I'm just trying to find balance in my life and trying to teach both of my boys to eat healthy to avoid the health issues that I have. In the bible it said all things in moderation. But we all as humans want to find an EASY meal plan that is sustainable and that easy plan may not be healthy. But it is easy. Being intentional now, I am adding more fruits and vegetables and leaning more towards plant based than all meat diet. Keep teaching the world. and for free. If we all share the free knowledge, we can make a difference ONE life at a time.

After watching your video, I was able to affirm that my 'gradient' approach (in order to avoid the guilt of doing something 'wrong') is a healthy path for me to be on. And having more than one teacher is ESSENTIAL!! I'm a teacher (of ESL) myself, and am very aware that I'm not always right, and my information can be misconstrued in so many different ways, depending on the student. We must embrace and focus on life and the environment; variety, authenticity and flexibility ❤❤

SPOT ON, John. Thank you so much for this video. You touched on all the important points! I would only disagree with your comment about fee memberships. Yes, some memberships are dangerous rhetoric schools where people are told there's only one way forward and the "teacher" has all the answers (when those teachers, in fact, don't even follow their own advice) however, some memberships are very helpful to those wanting community, accountability and like-minded friends to help stay on track. I wish you would have made the distinction because there are some level-headed and actually pretty solid memberships out there. I'd like to think mine is one such place as well as people like Olivia Hertzog, for example. Having said all that thank you so much for this video. I only wish I had seen something like this when I first started on my raw vegan journey.

I am interested in the Dina handbook. That’s something I’ll do after watching this episode. The other things, you have taught progressively. These I generally have employed in my lifestyle, one of recent is getting a blood test.
It’s much appreciated & timely that you had this coverage on dying from a raw vegan diet. So many have called me worried that I may lose my life from my raw plant food diet. If you have a very short condensed explanation of not dying from this lifestyle, I’ll send it to several of my friends. They won’t watch it if it’s long though, bc they’re short of time and eat a SAD diet. I watch the long ones though.
Anyway, I really appreciated this video. Some points and phrases you said, I’m going to tell for my friends. Thank you John. I’ve been watching you for years, as I have been fully raw for 9 years.

Hey John, regardless of how this is received, thanks for doing all the homework on this! I know you really care about the science behind health, as do we. There’s no way a 100% RAW diet is the best for you. Also, there’s no way that some preparation of foods, negatively impacts, longevity and health, even on the microscopic level. in terms of doctors, they went to medical school, and did not learn much about nutrition, in most cases, not at all. When I shared my plant-based diet with my doctor, he did not know what to say, because he did not know anything about it. Many of them are smokers, or have big bellies, and are not the healthiest either. I also feel really bad for people who are on the “carnivore diet“, and have no clue. I’m not here to preach, I just answer questions if people ask.

There is a HUGE difference between 'cooked' and 'cooked', if it's processed or ultra-processed with a lot of unhealthy mucoid plaque-creating ingredients. I don't believe that mucoid plaque comes back if you add pressure-cooked beans or sweet potatoes. The plaque is created from pizza, bread and more hardly digestible food.

However, I’m following and watching many vegan, and raw vegan channels, in order to gain information and learn , I like your videos and fully raw christen, I have the common sense in me pretty strong, thankfully, to not agree with things that I kinda know it’s just extreme. You are so right, we have Brian and we need to use it. I became a vegan for ethical reasons and I’m so happy that I made the change because to me humans and animals lives matter equally. It all sounds great until you try some of those raw food diets, and get a few years under your belt... I always wanted to believe that a raw diet was superior, energy was great, however in my quest, i am pretty sure I have done some of the very extreme ones, with not the best of results in the longer run. Started having issues, So I think eating a larger variety of foods makes sense. These days I am finding I do need a little extra protein to keep muscle mas up as I age, so that and with what you have shared on prebiotics, and resistive starch, and the rest raw fruits veggies, green juice is making a lot of sense. Thanks!

Millions of people have been waterfasting throughout the world for thousands of years, so it shouldn't be surprising to hear about one person dying afterwards. Several of my friends with terminal diseases recovered after waterfasting, so I'm sure there's a lot more people who die because they didn't waterfast. TrueNorth has no availability for several months and will not take patients who reject conventional therapy, and most oncologists medicate their patients beyond the point of no return. So requiring medical supervision can be a deadly option.
Robert Lockhart seemed to die from a long-term fruitarian diet. Fruit is great for brain, nerves, and endocrine, but veggies are needed for strong muscles, bones, and connective tissue. His muscles were simply not strong, including his heart. That's why you won't find many fruitarian gurus beyond normal life expectancy. Lockhart was certainly looking for answers at the end, or he wouldn't have researched dry fasting. And I suspect he learned a lot more about it than those who blame it for his death, since it is a remarkably successful approach in hospitals outside the U.S. In any case his journey eventually led him to a U.S. hospital, where people are regularly medicated to death. You can choose whichever villain fits your narrative, and it will probably be the one you least understand. And of course we're not allowed to blame anything allopathic, so disregard what happened during his final days in the hospital.

Isn't it that there is a hierachy of diets and the higher you go, the more difficult it becomes to the point that some diets are simply unnattainable/ unsustainable for the majority of people due to their inherited & acquired health conditions?
I think that going cold-turkey (unless in some force majore situations and even then for a short period only) and not being careful enough to take all the time needed by your own body for a diet change can be very problematic. And yes, as with everything else, we have to be really well-educated and not just blind-folded enthusiasts and guru followers... esp since only a small minority out there seem to be healthy enough to endure an extreme dietary& lifestyle approach.
Still, well-educated doctors can also err, no? :)
I was amazed to hear a famous and respected plant-based one say that we need a lot of fiber for the microbiome TO FORM A BIOFILM IN OUR INTESTINES (?!!!) so as to prevent sugar from entering the bloodstream too fast...
Ok, people stop the SAD diet and manage to reduce their weight and get their blood sugar levels under control by becoming WFPB while eating tons of fiber but then- what happens?- far too many end up being frail and weak- most probably for the lack of proper assimilation incl. due to excessive-fiber- boosted biofilm overgrowth...And, at that point, they either quit and become carnivore/keto/etc or, alternatively, 'go on a cleanse' by doing a water fast/having enemas/colonics (which all should be done under medical supervision, agreed) or probably go on a more or less extensive juice feast, just for the sake of doing away with the the biofilms and somehow regaining proper absorption...
It is my firm belief that our microbiome should be under our body's and mind's control and not the other way round. Unless, of course, you believe that the microbiome is your 'saviour on earth' and the sticky matrix layers of quorum-sensing bacteria, fungi, viruses and worms can do you all the good in the world by feeding your system through their metabolites instead of your cells getting what they need from suitable food unobstructedly...Then you will probably keep on fibering yourself up, vehemently denying all juicing and water-fasting as unnatural and unhealthy, start fermenting like crazy and begin taking loads of per/pro/postbiotics to somehow remedy the situation..
Yet, as far as I know, it is much preferable to have your gut microroganisms in planctonic (unattached) form and not in adhesive layers covering the intestinal walls, and in high diversity& lesser quantities simply because many commensals are also pathobionts and we have to be careful with the all-embracing enthusiam here as well. Also, let me remind you that even the SCFAs usefulness is dose-dependent, just like everything else, and more is not necessarly better.

    1. Dry fasting. You can be meat eater and dry fast and die.
    2. Water fasting same.
    3. Infection also.

    Every diet can kill you.
You can be the best eater of all time and in the end it turns into... "another one bites the dust." R.I.P.
We are all dying one way or the other.
But we want it to be that dying on this earth
just means going on to the place of *Amazing Wonderfulness*
where we will be more Alive then ever and be Blissfully astounded at *the Love* of God
and the Majesty of God in ways that cannot be done on earth.
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared
for those who love Him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)
For God So Loved.... the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have... _everlasting_ *LIFE.*
