It's because they were playing a high press (running towards Croatian players when they had the ball) as this is the only way you can reliably defend against this Croatian team. If you sit back and give them time to pass the ball around, Brazil would never be able to get possession and they would spend the last 10 minutes defending.

Fun fact is that Tite actually did scream in the sidelines to not go up right before the goal. Then Fred lost the ball twice at Croatias corner and neither stalled or went back to defend, leading to the goal.
Even if Fred hadn’t gone up, that would still be a 4 v 3 with 3 minutes left. They should’ve only had one person forward to boot it forward to.

I don't understand why Tite gave a chance to Rodrygo and Antony when he knew that they lacked experience and the game was slowed down and stretched. Clearly those two guys don't have any experience in that kind of game and also on this stage of world cup. It was silly. And also why were Brazilian players counter-attacking after they scored the goal at the end of half-time of extra-time when they should have parked the bus. It can defined as carelessness.
Ok, Antony definitely changed the game. I believe they shoulda kept Rodrygo and Antony on. Take out Pacqeuta for Fabinho, take out Pedro (ik hes a sub) for bremer and play 5 at the back with casemiro and Fabinho as holding midfielders. Than you have Neymar Rodrygo and Antony at front attacking and trying to control the ball possession.
That's where you need a manager like Mourinho to come in

Fr, i saw him having a nightmare of a game at Real Madrid and still score you the winner at 80 minute. He is the kind of player that can do that for you any given day, but Tite has never liked the guy, idk why.

Everyone thinks he is great comparing him with the pitiful level of Brazilian coaches but in the international stage we see how the Gap is huge in tatitcs and strategies between the best coaches in Europe and the ones Brazil. We still got the natural talent of the players but only the great coaches really know how to get the best out of them.
The 5th PK taker tactic is a common one, but I've never understood it. It's interesting to see so many people questioning it now.
Imo the "high pressure"/"critical" PKs in the series are the 1st, and then maybe the 4th.
1st has to wait a long time before they can kick, which builds tension, and on top of that it sets the tone for the rest of the series.
4th is often either the one to win the series or the one to keep a team alive on the brink of defeat.
As in the 2018 World Cup, Tite and his coaching staff had no strategy or clear plan to deal with a better prepared opponent. He continued to rely on the individual technical aspect of the Brazilian team, which worked in Neymar's goal, but Croatia dominated the match as a whole, and deserved to go through because they had a strategy, they managed to execute it and the coach on the other side basically left it to Neymar to decide. Unfortunately for him and the Brazilians, Neymar doesn't play in defense either.
Bro Brazil was up 1-0 with 2 min left in the game. In 120 minutes they only allowed 1 shot on goal. They dominated in Defense.

Brazil's goal came from an individual move by Neymar, because of Neymar's quality, and not because of a collective aspect. And two more things: 1-Football is a collective sport; and 2-While the referee does not whistle, the game is not over. Conceding a goal on the counterattack, with less than five minutes left to go, with seven players on the attacking field unnecessarily, shows how disorganized Brazil was throughout the game.
Oh, and before I forget: Tite has had a whole cycle of preparation for the 2022 World Cup. And, in six years of work, he has not managed to create a single variation of the game that could, perhaps, surprise Croatia. Anyway, with the human material he had, he was obliged to do more. Let a foreign coach come.
Croatia won the game but there’s no one watching that game can say Croatia dominated anything 😂 😂😂. They barely ventured into the attacking third and troubled Allison. Anytime Croatia possessed the ball was in their own defense or in midfield where they weren’t creating anything. Brazil simply gave the game away. The best team doesn’t always win. It’s jus football. If that's not dominating possession and pace, the pace of the match, I think we've seen different games. Croatia's strategy was never to attack or be on the offense against Brazil. Clearly the idea was to have the ball, prevent the Brazilians from using speed, and try something in isolated shots. Or, as they were very well prepared, take the decision to penalties. The only thing about your argument that I agree with is that the best doesn't always win. But what does it mean to be the best? What makes football so unique is that individual talent is not always enough to win. If the Argentines don't pay attention to this, maybe they will suffer with Croatia too.
I don’t think you can blame anyone on Brazil for the loss. In a normal fixture they draw 0-0 and in a season series probably beat them the second time around. Croatia played a perfect game and pushed themselves to death. They’re great at making teams play their and that’s what they made Brazil do. It’s only respect for Croatia out of this.

No one mentioning Militao who was the best defender but was taken off, after he was being taken off... they concede from where he used to cover. Danilo/Sandros for some weird reason were really close to attack, Casemiro quickly went to Modric to stop the counter attacking pass but was outdone.

Brazil's defense is unquestionably one of the best in the world. They made the mistake of pressing for another goal when all they had to do was double down on defense and see out the game with so little time left.

@@fulaan1 because they knew croatia were tired and struggled when pressed, so they wanted to disrupt them instead of sitting back and letting croatia pile men forward. It was a good decision, but Casemiro made the mistake of pressing Modric in the middle of the field. Brazil should've run back as soon as he received the ball because he evaded Casemiro, created space, and started an unexpected counter attack that led to the goal.

Tite will go down as the best national team coach of Brazil since Tele Santana. Rescued a Brazil team that was in danger of becoming as irrelevant as Germany is now, and making them a fighting unit with a beautiful style of football. But he really dropped the ball in this match. Both in his tactics and substitutions.

@@figo007tv No. He got it right with Santana - legendary SPFC manager and 82 Brazil manager - but that didn't win. Scolari was ok outside of the debacle in Minas Gerais. And of course a winner in 2002 - im not underestimating him. But... his style of play was awful later and he forgot what he did in 2002. And Dunga before 14 was every bit as stubborn - but seen as the strict pragmatist needed after Perreura struggled to make the tough decision (drop Ronaldo or Adriano)

He adapts his game depending on the adversary: Backline of 5 defenders against Netherlands; De paul, Enzo and Paredes against Croatia. Tite is completely Blind and has no planning, not one single strategy. Let Casemiro alone to defend against 3, having Fabinho and Bruno on the Bench. If the players dont do something magical, nothing happens because the coach just does obvious subs like a five year old in the sidelines. The only time Tite surprised everyone was when he took Vini, the best player of the tournament, out actually helping Croatia.

They qualified for every world cup, won the most and made the last 8 the most (i think). For Croatia to win, its history for them. A tiny country with less than 4 mil population being in the Semis 3 times in their short history is an unbelievable achievement. To put this in perspective, Brazil has more professional footballers than Croatia has a population. And Croatia have only been independent for about 30 years. That means only 7 World Cups.

Everyone in the world knew this, about the game plan of Croatia being in the midfield. Only Tite seemed to be oblivious to this fact. Tite is defenitely NOT one of our greatest. Croatia were always going to dominate the midfield. Casemiro x Paqueta were never going to out run Kovacic, Modric, and Brozovic. However, Tite became way too desperate. Vini wasnt having his best game but the best brazilians chances were coming from his linkup with neymar. Raphinha off for antony was a good sub. The extra time subs were terrible. Despite Brazil scoring i just could not feel confident when i see sandro coming on for our best defender that game militao…. Danilo was literally cramping and walking lightly on one leg. And then you have fred who was a decent sub attacking so deep and losing the ball which enables a counter. 6 brazilin players were deep into croatias half 🤦♂️ terrible management and leadership at the end of the game… brazil shot themselves in the foot after the hard earned goal

@@burritouzumaki9562 modriv kovacic and brozovic absolutely dominated us. Brazil recently has always done poor vs a midfield who knows how to move the ball around. It is why when you look at possession, Croatia got the better of us. Take a look at the Copa America final, Argentinas midfield trio were comfortable on the ball that we had to rely on mistakes and on the defense in final third to take the ball off them. Croatia being comfortable and soaking our attacking pressure is never a good sign, and that goes for any team.
And still not giving us the respect we deserve.

Both Casemrio and Fred were so far inside opponents half. I would never understand why they did that. When the counter happen the Brazilian defense was left open. If only Fred or Casemiro was behind the counter would have been impossible. No way !
The 5th penalty taker being your best is BS. That's Neymar like Ronaldo wanting the glory penalty. But they rarely go to the 5th pen. 3rd is where your best penalty taker should be. To ensure they actualy take 1 and if someone misses the 1st or 2nd the 3rd becomes very pressurized. They can't turn the tide in that spot because the person before effects the next taker.

No. It was not. Tite was stupid. Everyone that understands football and knows how deep this squad was can see that. Croatia controlled the game in the first half but after the second half Brazil was better and Croatia did not hurt Brazil's defense in any way. They had more chances against Argentina. Against Brazil, one lucky shot (in the whole game) in a counter attack where the players acted like children ALL out of position.
Croatia has not front player who can shoot on goal, they do everything good until 16 meters, but i think 3th place in world is more than great 🇭🇷💪🏻😍🇧🇦👍👍
When you have only the wingers to put the ball into the opponent's box then your opponents soon manage to force your wingers wide, wide and wider off until they cannot execute that inch perfect passes so crucial for a striker to latch on to.
Raphina is an awesome player with skill and speed but he can be handled quite effectively in the Premier League and every team has done it's homework by the time they came out to face you on the pitches.
What else could Tite have done? He put on additional defensive cover after taking the lead. It's not Tite's fault that Brazil was caught on a 3v4 with 3 minutes left. That's down to the players.

You have the option of taking either Danilo or Eder Militao since they’re both cramping up and you take off Eder… why do you take your CB off when Croatia has shown their counter attack style via the wings. You take Danilo off and make the sub play on the wing. And force them to go through the middle which, they were lacking late game as they slowly transitioned from defense to attack with the wings doing hold up play and then finding the #9 or anyone making a late run. A fit sub doesn’t allow Modric to put that pass and cuts it off as he’s fresher than the winger who already has played 40-50+

The only one outside of Fred that was defensive MF and wasn't played was Fabinho. How do you get caught on a 3v4 while defending a 1-0 lead with 3 minutes left to play and fresh subs on the pitch? At the latter stage of the attack Marquinhos was defending 3 Croatian attackers. Unless Tite told them to go get another goal, I highly doubt that, this is on the players.
Everyone knows that Brazil's problem was in the right and left backs, and they did not show any contributions in the attack, and that the wings make a double effort in defense

Been saying the attack was overrated because they weren't finishing their chances but everyone kept saying how weak the defense was. Defense was their strong point of the entire tournament.

Brazil played better than Croatia. As it did against Belgium 4 years ago for most of the game. But in both cases there was what we Brazilians call a "blackout": 5 or 10 minutes of loss of focus that led to a series of tactical mistakes that proved to be fatal.
IMO, it really is on Tite. He had the best Brazilian team since 2006 but he didn't keep up with changes in modern football.
I could name several of his mistakes here: being predictable; never having tested alternative formations, such as playing with 3 defenders; letting Modrić play with such freedom; calling up players that have never been tested; among others. Don't even get me started on the results: He managed to lose a Copa America to Argentina playing at home (only Brazilian coach to do so); managed to make Brazil lose the first game ever against Africans in the WC; and worst of all, abandoned his players after the penalty shootout when they needed his support the most.
Like so many Brazilians, it saddens me that there's no Brazilian alternative to Tite: even though he failed miserably, he's still the best Brazilian coach. Which goes to show how behind Brazilian coaches have been. So the best option is getting a foreign coach.

We, Croatia were definitly better first half. Those first 45 mins were tactical and technical perfection. If we have world class striker then probably in some games we wouldn't have to go trough penalties.

It was something the Brazilian press said it would happen, they warned us about it and our coach Tite didn't listen. In his hubris, as it happens to many Brazilian coaches, he didn't consider making changes in the team to better face the Croatian team and their known tactics: populate the midfield and slow down the game.
The Argentinian coach Scaloni did that in every game and see where they are now.

2. Neymar is not suited for that relayer between the midfield and attack in that 4-2-4 formation
3. That 4-2-4 proved to be a misbalance because the midfield is thin with 2 players. Bruno G or Fred should play in that midfield instead of an extra man in attack
4. Marquinhos is a liability in high stakes match in that ET in the QF Militao should pair with Thiago Silva in CB positions
5. Substituting your best attackers in a QF against Croatia and the wrong choices to finish your spots of subs available

I don't know if this is important but there is a huge pressure on the Brazilian team to win every game they play, and its not only in the World Cup. There is pressure from the population, fans, media, sponsors. I knew Brazil would loose on penaltis, they simply don't have the mental state to deal with that pressure, no matter how much they practice.

Tite is an average coach IMO. You have a two man midfield against a three man midfield of Croatia? Oooo we are mighty Brazil , that mindset costed them. Load the midfield with another player like Bruno G and change the 4-2-3-1 formation to 4-3-3 in the second half once the midfield battle was lost in the first half. Fred should not be in this team period. Let me tell you , Brazil would have lost the semifinal to Argentina as well because Scaloni is much more shrewd manager than Tite.
