- On this vlog Eric takes you into the smoke and behind the scenes at high intensity structure fire training at a huge abandoned building. Eric also takes you to the scene of a hazardous materials incident, updates on merch and gives patch shout outs!
Eric, despite Connor being away, you're doing a killer job with the videos, so don't second guess yourself! I hate when I see a video pop up and it's a premiere, because I want to watch it immediately 😂 but glad Connor is doing well, and as for you, keep up the amazing work, and stay safe out there!
Speaking of which when is Connor coming back
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO what does standby investigation mean
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO I know this is off topic but as a medic are you only allowed to work the rescue or can you be on the engine or ladder as well
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO thank you for the info
Such a cool training!
Thank You for your service 🙏. We are so ucky to have a great Fire Service like South Metro. We're praying for you all
Found this channel a few days ago. Absolutely incredible content. Awesome to learn about what really goes on and it’s an awesome way to spread awareness. Love from Australia 🇦🇺🇺🇸

Ya I found it a month ago it was great
Considering SMFR was only established in 1998 (originally 1951 as Castlewood FPD), they've had a lot of experiences in a history of only 23 years
I want to see a video covering all of south metros history’s
@@alex_1798 Check out the video about Littleton FD over time.
Thank you SMFR for your videos. You are truly a beacon to all US Firefighters & the citizens who fully support the Fire Service.
SMFR I would say is not only a beacon for US firefighters. But for firefighters/firefighting around the world. I am from the UK and SMFR is and has a huge following over here.
Awesome video! Thank you and God Bless all who do and have done first responder services! 🙏❤️🙌✝️
That is some awesome training ( don't see this type and intense training ) other departments can learn quite a lot from you guys .
Really cool!
Thank you for all your service!
Simply Amazing ! Great training
You are doing a good job Eric. Love from Aurora. Stay safe out there guys
Nice video Eric, great job. Like the inside view of the exercise .
This is like a dream training...sweet video.
Great job Eric, keep on.
🔥🔥🔥🔥the hype!!!!! Let go!!!! I’m excited for this video💪🏾💯 keep up the awesome yall thank you your service🙏🏾
Love seeing Full Scale Exercises from other agencies!!
Awesome VLOG. Great public relations work. I love it. Greetings from Germany
Let’s go SMFR! I can already tell this is gonna be great! God bless SMFR!
A really intense experience for sure. In the military we say, "you train as you fight." It's clear that adage applies to SMFR as well.
Wick awesome video. Great information.
Eric Hurst (PIO) of SMFR U are doing amazing job with the videos despite Conner being away keep up the good work.
Awesome video, editing was very captivating
This is the best thing in the world to do. Can’t really call it a job because even to this day, I still live and breathe doing this.
I miss it soooooooo much. 10 years it becomes a part of you especially after training so many firefighters in rescue and emergency services.
Thanks for letting us know what you do for a living. Blessings to y’all.
Can I get a shirt? Please send me the link to my email 🙏♥️🤙🏾
I love this video
Oooo fancy mood lighting for the intro this week 😜
I just started watching all of the academy videos and I’m new to this channel but I want to be a firefighter when I grow up and maybe I could go here.
Good job Eric
I would like to see more videos of this type.
Hey, Eric? Are you willing to share what you have written under the brim of your helmet?
Great video showing the background of your operations. Just curious is South Metro apart of an IAFF union?
Keep up the great work! When will South Metro start a new hiring process? I’m very interested in joining the South Metro team.
New helmet? Looks awesome
Keep upload video on here dude 👏👏
Guys, yes that smoke is theatrical and non-toxic but those of us in training who were exposed to the old Cloud 9 smoke, have a chronic cough to this day. Please consider using particle protection. Great drill.
Hi Eric! I love your videos and this channel! I was wondering if you guys would take patches from a retired department or not. Is that possible?
God how I miss the fire service
this intro hits harder than a flash over event tbh. when is it coming to spotify lol?
How did they make the training smoke push out of the window at 5:50? That was a nice touch.
As General Schwarzkopf said, "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail."
Is it possible to hear more of the radio traffic next time? I always find the radio traffic interesting to listen to
Very cool, I even live around here. I’m actually considering joining SMFR.
Do it man from what I hear it’s the best job in the world
What kind of high rise packs do you guys use?
Will you be covering the fire on pine dr? I saw the smoke, but thankfully you guys put it out real quick. We lost power at the school near it.
We did a short blurb via Twitter.
@@kimspuhler6439 Ok thank you. I'll be sure to watch that.
That’s awesome that the state I’m from gave you guys that
Eric: how dose your dept identify the gear of a proby ff? Ours use reflective tape. The number of bars shows where you are in training and how much supervision you might need. The big day is when they remove the last bar.
Can we get a Fleet Friday on the collapse rescue apparatus?
So as a POI, do you respond to calls code 3 or just a normal response?
why is connor taking a break ? im sorry im just asking now been a few months since ive been here love the videos strong supporter of you guys keep it up
Entirely random but do you have the link on the pelican cases that protect the fog machines?
Anyone else think that sick firefighter was a real thing until they said smoke inhalation 😂
This looks incredibly cool. I may have to miss it :(
What medication were they agitating with the FF with CO exposure?
❤️ I got a question to there’s something there’s something in there in my backpack for you guys
@southmetrofirerescue-centennial,colorado is there any dates as to when your next hiring will happen?
Also, really cool training! We just did the same with a vacant building in our city. It's always nice to train in a different environment.
Finally, Volga SD, I love your patch!
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO I look forward to it! Thanks!
G,day from Sydney Australia.
Great training video.
What is the IV medication mixed with the naCl (saline) solutions for smoke inhalation?
🌏🇦🇺
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thankyou from Sydney Australia. I will research more into the treatment.
Smoke inhalation protocol:
100% 02
Broncodilation meds, such as Ventolin or nebuliser.
Considered chest squeeze bilateral: in time with patient with extreme exhaustion.
Positive pressure ventilation.
🌏🇦🇺
Это очень круто!
@South Metro Fire Rescue - Centennial, Colorado will day day in the life be back?
Do you guys not wear hoods or was it just off because of training?
Question what is standby
for a investigation
This thumb nail is Sick
I know this building… I used to do security for it several years ago…. I recognize most of the rooms…. Lol
What was this structure previously? School?
@@MrPhillipstj43 when I did security there, it was mainly Orchard Road Christian Center and had some of the small spaces leased out to other businesses…..
@@dalepratt9707 thanks. Good sized structure for sure.
What was the building and why was it abandoned ?
I will be at a structure fire as a Firefighter
Do you guys have/hire any PHRNs or just paramedics
Eric, can I ask what is written on the underside of your helmet?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you! Brilliant quote and motto.
I had a similar quote/motto on a plaque in Aus, when I was learning and development manager, "We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training" Archilochus.
Great channel by the way
Hey SMFR. Since the pio's operate the channel, i wanted to ask a question in hopes that maybe you can answer or someone who knows here in the comments. Why do some cities have ems attached to the fire department and some dont? Im curious because im looking to get in to ems but i want to stay separate from fire and in with a lot of these places, ems is cross-trained as firefighters which isnt what im wanting to do. Like with SM and my current city of Orlando and Tampa, its fire rescue so ems is attached to the fire department. However i see on, like Nightwatch which in New Orleans, EMS was separate from fire, but when they went to Tampa in season 4, thats where fire and ems were together. Obviously there are private company ambulance services like for instance AMR or those attached to hospitals, but are there reasons as to why some cities would choose to combine or split fire and ems?
Most often EMS is separate from the FD in cities that have city run hospitals that had their own ambulance service before it became popular to have EMS run by the FD. This is not always the case but can be seen in Denver, Chicago, New York and others. Most Fire Districts in Colorado at least were created as “All Hazard” Fire Rescue and thus included EMS as well as Fire, HazMat and Technical Rescue. Many parts of the US have adopted different models and you can see all of these being handled by different agencies or everything including law enforcement being done by 1 agency. It just depends on what the people that formed these cities/counties or areas wanted and how they historically formed for that particular location. There are pluses and minuses for any of these configurations and most agencies try to evolve and perform the best service possible as South Met does.
I live in a rural area of Colorado ems is county ems but fire runs with ems even though different departments for sets of hands all of where I am is mostly volunteer
Nice to know: Even in other countries like Germany for example, some fire departments run EMS and others not.
@@coloradod3649 Ya this make a lot of sense. I did a little more digging after I posted the question and was noticing that some places have government ran ems services while others have theirs tied with fir rescue because of, like you said, the all hazard. Over in the UK, almost all of their ambulance services are under the NHS and New Orleans ems is ran under the New Orleans Health Department which is why theirs is separate from fire. Thanks for the input because i had to spend so much time searching and basically ended up only getting any info from wikipedia of all places. I think in mentioned in my original comment that i was looking into ems as a career but i didnt really want to have to be a firefighter as well if i went with city but then also the dealing with some of the hassles of private company ems.
There are so many different answers to this questions its even hard to scratch the surface. The short answer comes down to money. There is a lot of money in ambulance billing and the cities would like to keep the revenue thats generated from it. By having Fire and EMS together you're generating money and upping staffing by putting trained firefighters in an ambulance. In cities such as Boston and New york they choose to separate the two departments and simply focus on there areas of specialty but they are still municipally run departments. In sub urban departments you tend to see EMS and Fire together because you're generally lower staffed then the Metro areas and not within a reasonable distance for a hospital based system to make sense. There are a million views on how to operate a Public safety system and it all comes down to what makes sense in your area or if a hospital based EMS system even exists in your area. At the end of the day there is no national guideline or direction federally as to how to operate. So individual cities and town decide what kind of service they want.
What was this building previously used for??
It was used as a church, an educational center, and has held workout spots and restaurants.
That building kinda looks like an old HQ building for a department, am I right about it?
@SMFR how can you handle all that bunker gear and SCBA in 100 degree whether
A lot of hydration, safety, and training
I know when Conner is coming back
🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩👍👍👍
Why didn’t they use their flashover hoods
7:53 found the bat chief who was in day of a life of a batt chief
Yes u did
@south metro do you guys hire other people from different departments if they wanna work for south metro ?
Yes! People who work for other fire departments are welcome to apply at South Metro. Firefighters may have 2 different options depending on what candidates SMFR is hiring at the time. Entry-level firefighters attend a 16-week academy, while experienced and already paid firefighters could be able to attend a shorter "lateral" academy.
What camera do you use on you’re helmet?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO I want to get one for my helmet. Does it hold up nicely in the heat?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO one other question. What mount do you use to mount it to the helmet?
EMS training supervisor is showing that kit with saline. What is that he has them agitating for a minute
In such a case you don't want to be first due
For real commanding units as a first due engine or tower would suck I feel like 3 batt. Chiefs would be able to command that
😢😪💔🙏
Hey Eric, I know your callsign is PIO10 but who is PIO13? I see them respond once in awhile on pulsepoint
PIO13 is Kim who is a part time PIO which will run those PIO calls when Eric and Connor are not able to go or are off duty
Has a Public Informations Officer, Can you complete all of the same jobs as a normal firefighter with searches and Fire attack,
And when joining the fire department how do you become a member of the PIO
I think its a separate hiring process. I'm not too sure about Eric's work with the department, but I think Connor used to be a news reporter
please ship to the philippines
Smfryou guys and girls are awesome I strive to a be you one day
That's the Lt. from the Marty unscripted video right.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO any plans to bring unscripted back or day in the life's?
Was that firefighter accuatly hurt? or was it apart of training?
Training, the training officer starts talking to the guys
Also believe they wouldn’t video that out of respect
One of the worst calls is a Big Box structure Them and High rise get spooky. Those are like major stores like Walmart. I never like them when i served and one of my Childhood friends and fellow FireFighters Bret Tarver lost his life in one. Do a lone FF trapped with no air. Dont give a location just a general in a Big Box with limited entry and see how the crew does
Eric you are doing good with the videos glad that Connor is doing well you should have Kim help you with the videos
Thank you Kim Connor and Eric your friend Kyle
When Connor coming back?
Can we get weekly uploads??????? Please
When is Connor Coming back miss her
Finally I missed you guy I got a question though where is Connor
She had to take off because she is having a baby!
@John Marvin well then for maternity leave.
She is on maternity leave… he even mentioned that.
Someone didn't watch the video entirely
Yes I’m not really active on this channel and I didn’t watch this video all the way I had to leave half through
The music at the end of the video was distracting me from hearing you. My senses kept going to trying to figure out what the music was sating. Maybe muted down some would help?
That’s the same Batt Chief from the Day in the life.
What happen to Connor?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO good, we all need a break
how is miss connor doing
Can y’all as PIO respond to any calls that y’all want to or what is the deal with that
PIO's may respond to any call they want and have to respond to working incidents of community / news interest.
It is normal that you have only a mask and a helmet on your head when you go inside a burning house? In Germany we have fabric balaclava to protect our ears and hair
Eric explains at 3:00 why the firefighters were not wearing their hoods (balaclava)
Why so long for a video
Hopefully you didn’t run emergent to the fuel spill call.
Did Conner have her baby?
Yes
