  • The Old guard of Nerds and Geeks were a lot happier and more hopeful in life when we were growing up. Nowadays, nerds dont have the same kind of love for the media along with not being as inclusive and friendly. This is because all the new age nerds are toxic and formed almost gangs in their fandom and no longer welcome those who are looking for a home

I too miss the older times. Now it has shifted to pandering for everyone.
    Modern audiences being twitter etc.

It was the best being a nerd between 2006-2012 before we went into Isekai Winter

You wanna know the when it started bc I’m a late 90s baby. Halo, Cod and gears of war lobbies and if you wanted to take about your interests it was between friends during school bc you didn’t want to run out of minutes on your cell phone and texting was a pain. When co-op and split screen games die so did everyone’s abilities to deal with someone disagreeing with you. Back if you and your boy had a disagreement is was face to face bc you were at each other house and mom and pops wasn’t about to come pick you so you had to get over and be friends again bc the next episode of dragon ball z came on that night or we gotta beat the game this weekend bc we rented it and gotta take it back🤣🤣🤣🤣

As an old school anime and animation fan, I feel you man. Don't get me wrong, it's great that I can talk about anime in the open without being looked at like some loser. But even then, the anime community itself has become unbearable. I blame it on two kinds of people, the tourists, who are new to anime, but instead of understanding the culture or history spout of bullshit and try to force their ideologies with anime.
Then there are the NCAW (non casual anime watchers), they've been around a for a bit longer, who know a bit more. So they feel like they can make dumb statements on anime production and not do any actual research. They say shit like how this show has budget/no budget (where budget is a not a defining factor) or this character design (blamed an in-between frame) is bad, so the character designer should lose their job. They are the worst. Oh and shippers, fuck those guys.
Us oldheads can't help but shake our heads and stop interacting with the current community. We're basically hermits at this point. Anime may have gone mainstream, but to us, it's feels like a invasion of our beloved hobby.
