The Game a 35 Years Old Michael Jordan Rocked OG Jordans 1 And Put On a Show at MSG!

- March 8, 1998 - Michael has never gone ‘retro’ with his in-game footwear before, but bringing out the Air Jordan 1 was a gesture of respect to the fans of New York. It was a stark contrast of new and old; when Michael wore the Air Jordan 1 in ’85, the Bulls’ jersey featured the script logo and varsity lettering on the chest. For this ’98 outing, he was wearing the short-lived alternate jersey in Black. During a time-out, Ahmad Rashad, who was keen on Air Jordans and frequently commented on Jordan’s shoes, pointed out Michael’s shoe selection and noted a pair of White/Red Air Jordan XIIIs that were on reserve in case the shoes were not comfortable, After the game, Michael stated: “Well, I was joking around with my wife at home, and I said, we’re going to New York, might as well bring back the old shoes. It’s been a long time since I wore them, and it’s kinda fun to come back here and play and to remember some of the old days and some of the games i’ve had here, and the shoes are a part of that. My feet are killing me, but it was fun.”| The Game a 34 Years Old Michael Jordan Wore OG Jordans 1 And Put On a Show at MSG! | VintageDawkins

That last wild foul layup was quite possibly one of the most insane shots I've ever seen. The man was just on another level. His highlight reels will amaze me till the day I die. I'm fortunate that I got to see him play live once in Milwaukee where he put up 40. GOAT no doubt about it.
I shared season tickets in the early 90’s and was at many an iconic playoff games
I’m a Knicks fan and though I hated the Bulls, you have to respect what THE G.O.A.T. brought to the games
If the home team crowd is giving the visiting player a standing ovation, then that is GOAT statua
Crowds do that all the time when players are having good games 😒😒😒
yeah i know but everywhere mj would go, fans really appreciate him, miami even retired his number, imagine that no miami player would ever wear the the number 23 jersey.
Did you see the quickness, the footwork, defense, efficiency, the hustle, the grace in his game..tongue out, shoes, style everything. Pure master at this sport
Never gets old watching his performance after many, many years later…🐐🐐
💪🏿
I'm literally watching this over the current nba playoffs. This regular season game from 35 years ago is more exciting than the current games. So lucky I got to see the GOAT play most of his career. Thankfully youtube exists to show my son when he's older.
Alot of guys are strong ... Alot of guys have skills but only one guy have this level of artistry
I used to hate MJ back then, because EVERYONE was wearing a Jordan jersey. I always was a fan of the underdogs, mid-90’s Lakers was my team. You know, Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel. But yeah, there will never be another Jordan. Truly the GOAT.
Best ever to do it!!!! Defensively, offense it doesn’t matter. He did it all on every game he played. Even as a rookie . HE’s simply the GOAT !!!
No load management or injury excuses to keep from playing and giving the fans what they want to see either!
💯💯💯💯💯
I agree. Magic Johnson right up there too.
Amazing!
Very grateful that I got to grow up watching MJ play. That iconic fade away shot.
And that spin move on Ward, wow!
In the last dance he said his socks were SOAKED in blood after the game ended and he took them off.
That's true love of the game and love of the culture. I can't name a player today that would do something like this.
That alternate 13s are as 🔥
Are jordan 1s that uncomfortable to play in?
@@kgisabeast no his feet grew some with age. probably to a 13.5 or 14
@@juanborges8192 - they make size 14 Jordan 1’s. This is all BS just like the bs that he and Isiah are enemies when at the 4:35 mark Isiah talks about how he and MJ went to dinner the night before. Also, MJ didn’t have the flu that one game, it was food poisoning. He was not as sick as he sold us. Lots of BS.
@@kgisabeast they said the shoes were a size under
Mike was truly a knick killer whether it was the regular season or playoffs dude always gave them the business
Mike took it personally, like you're in the world's most famous arena
Kind of how LeBron is to Toronto he was a Raptor Killer and a Charolette hornet killer
MJ was a hornets killer too, those good hornets teams not the bobcats
Mike likes playing at the garden
@Rorschach 0007 by your logic then MJ did that to the WHOLE LEAGUE. Lebron couldn’t lol.
Mj said they didnt have a size 14 for him so he had to wear a size 12 and his feet was bleeding after thr game what a LEGEND!!!
Jordan never ceases to amaze me. His love for the game of basketball shows constantly. 35yrs old...WOW ! He will always be the GOAT!
WOW!
At 14:13, when he made that steal and had the touch to do a lob pass as an outlet for the fast break, with his right hand, while leaning left and running out of bounds. I don’t think many people can appreciate how incredible that kind of power and precision is. That play involved a level of athletics that few in history will ever possess. And he made it look so routine. You can’t practice that play.
THE GOAT 🐐 PERIOD OFF THE CHAIN! GREATEST ATHLETIC OF ALL TIMES 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Man those late 90s Knick jerseys were really amazing
Also the court looked really nice.
Seeing the orange/blue paint is better than the all blue nowadays.
And also the organs were so much better back then. It made MSG feel some type of way.
@@Terror832 back when NBA teams had their own unique arena music
Im searching Ebay for the white knicks jerseys from Starks..legendary..or the x-man..or Ewing😀
My guy Scott Weeden suprised me with fantastic tickets for this game. Seeing this game live was unforgettable and we still talk about it to this day.
I got to see this game on a good Sunday of 98.
These were the best Knicks Jerseys.
Especially their blue roads. It highlighted their ruggedness to a tee.
also the last knicks unis that made the finals. truly great
Great court too. Before everything was littered with ads
I still got this whole game on VHS tape.
6'6 SHOOTING GUARD FROM NORTH CAROLINA, MICHAEL JORDAN!!!
Of course today we got many superstars in NBA but Michael was boss
You will never see in this erathat home crowd cheering for a visiting superstar !!!MJ the goat of all goat!!!!!
Steph Curry literally this year when he broke the record. Lol.....MJ *IS* the GOAT. But relax. Lol
Msg was Jordan home floor too lmao. He owns them 😂
Saw it with Kobe and not just in his last year either saw it in his prime in boston and the BOSTON crowd was chanting mvp MVP for a LAKER!!!!!
@@ChrisDodges123 nah it was way less
IVERSON Curry
Every basketball court seems to be MJ's biggest stage because he made it his business to show the fans that he Was / IS a"real" basketball player.... One of a kind, he was/is...🍀
There's something so badass about the way MJ grabs rebounds one handed or the ball fake or even when he goes to dunk and just grabs it like a tennis ball and has the arm stretched out
That's because Michael Jordan got some big hands the size of baseball gloves. He grips the ball like no other, except for Kawhi Leonard.
same size hands with kawhii but mj hands are even thicker crazy.
@@alkebulanlion6198 Mj's hands a fraction bigger than Kawhi's actually but yeah both those guys have bigger than average gloves on them
like a tennis ball.
And his footwork
JORDAN GOING OFF AS ALWAYS!!!!!!!
Jordan was a master on offense and defense and he played tough, rugged, killer mentality
The Jordan 1's was for nostalgia factor..Michael was having fun with his last ride before the double-three peat.
NO NEED FOR ME TO FINISH WATCHING THIS VIDEO!! JORDAN IS THE GOAT 🐐 NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!!!!!!!
Just watching this game, and hearing what Jordan said about his feet bleeding in ‘The last dance’ throughout this game, it’s crazy he played as well as he did considering having bloodied feet
Didn't realize that JFK Jr. was still alive at this time. Crazy to see him and all of the other celebrities looking so young.
"Spike he can't guard me, you come out here & try!!!!!" Gotta love Mike @12:20😂🐐
I always wanted to meet Michael Jordan in person.
you really don't. many who have are sorely disappointed by his attitude toward fans.
@@romulus_ what's the worst that could happen?
@@dragonfire1760 he hurts your feelings and it tarnishes how you look at him forever. I mean, there are worse things.
I'm from Wilmington, NC and have met him at least four different times. He was always very nice and gracious.
@@nunyabusiness7927 must not have been drinking =)
Gretzky and jordan in the same arena!
never knew he wore the exact pair of AJ1 from yester years... always thought it was a newly made version of the AJ1s.. no wonder he blistered out lol
Best for al times ...
Michael Jordan 🎇🎇🎇
thank you for making a return to CZcams dawkins. life is better when i come across your videos in my feed.
Love how he would challenge himself and everyone around him and even the crowd knew they were invited to a performance.
MJ would promise you the highest level of basketball every night and challenge his rivals openly to try to stop him but by mid game they were caught watching as fans as he would continue to destroy anything in front of him.
Isiah Thomas sounds like he really did like MJ back in the day...lol
He said they went out for dinner to 🤔 😂😂😂😂
i’m a simple man, i see jordan i click.
It's the all around game that he showed this night that always made me shake my head at how good MJ was at 35. Sure he amazed everyone with all the circus shots and plays, and the old school Jordan 1's on, but if you look... hes everywhere on the court. There's highlights where you see him getting defensive and offensive rebounds, put backs, shutting people down on D, assists, steals... literally just doing it all. Incredible talent.
Like the Chicago Bulls Last Dance documentary when Michael Jordan said about his Air Jordan 1 shoes: By halftime, my feet are bleeding.
MJ's bag is unmatched...
I bet His feet were barking like hell . But he was the best showman. Anything for the fans
You're absolutely right! MJ said that his socks were covered in blood at the end of the game because of the blisters on his feet because the shoes didn't fit the same as when he first wore them... That's tough/savage!
Isaiah Thomas is enjoying himself watching Michael play! I'm from Chicago and I've been to many games seeing Michael and on TV! Thomas is a fan.
Was a fan...now he just hates.
MJ is the GOAT!
Love it. I think I read or saw somewhere that his feet were destroyed after wearing these Retro 1s for the entire game. Anyway, this is back when the NBA style and fashion was a lot more simple and basic, yet flashy. Sneakers had to either be all white or all black, or match the team colors and the entire team had to wear the same colors. Home teams wore white jerseys and away teams wore the dark colors and there was only one logo on the court for the respective team. Nowadays, each team has 47 different jersey combinations and you spend 3 quarters trying to figure out who is the home and away team. The home court is painted with 1,298 different colors and designs and you don't recognize what team it is. Players wear more gear than NFL players, undershirts (players claim its for medical purposes) and full length spandex are allowed and can be whatever color, and players wear bright pink sneakers when their team is the Celtics and bright green sneakers when their team is the Bulls. Mind-boggling. Yeah, I'm super old school and like things more simple for sure.
This, this and this.
I remember watching this game with my dad. We both was hyped that day.
I love the video, the comments by the analysts and the play. I like modern day ball as well... but... at the end of it all the ball has to go in the bucket and then you have to stop the other team... no body does the full package better than Jordan. If not Jordan than Kareem or Wilt. So many amazing and skillfull basketball players over the years. They all had bad days and good days and amazing days... but when your bad days are better than anothers good and amazing days and when all your greats of an era who woukd be great in another era all gwt shut down or beat bybthe GOAT and his team over and over amd you are the juggernaught... then... your the G.O.A.T.!
Jordan was certainly great
Such a great player,it never gets old watching the great one play.
Im here bcuz i want to see him wearing his Jordan 1...the 1 that i have here
Anybody who watches MJ videos and compares them to LeBron can see there is 100% no comparison..Like comparing Peewee football to Varsity...
It's so damn obvious! For a real fan, it shouldn't take anymore than a few minutes to see Jordan was on a whole nother level than lebron.
Lebron >
Standing ovation on the road wow
When you paid to see this man play you got your money's worth!
THAT PART 💯🤣
And he made sure you did...
wow the crowd like MJ so much
DURING JORDANS CAREER HE WASN'T STUDYING ANYTHING BUT MAKING THEM BASKETS 🗑️! SCORING AS MANY AS HE COULD JUST LIKE HE DID! EXCELLENT VIDEO!!💯🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
I miss the 90s. Basketball was always fun to watch
I was alive to see PRIME Bird, Magic, MJ, Kobe, (Georgetown/Sixers), Nique, Kemp, Shaq at LSU/Magic/Lakers, Penny, Hakeem, Robinson, Barkley, Rodman, etc...I'm very thankful to be alive during the 80s and 90s. Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player that I have ever watched.
I was a baby when this happened!!
The one and only GOAT. Period.
If I was John Starks I would see The Knicks for always making me guard Mike😂😂😂
That 1st steal reminds me of how I used to play. Anticipate the pass and disrupt the lane and intercept and take it in for the layup coast to coast
I used to do this too. But I would dunk it.
Thay shoes until now still gold..
Michael Jordan is incredible! he stops the other team from scoring a 2 or 3 pointer by stealing the ball and then he takes the ball the other way and scores the basket and collects the and-1 free throw,.. That means when he plays his style of defense, he almost guarantees his Team 4-6 points every other possession.... Something to think about....👍
You're a little confused. That's 2 possessions bud
@@albertross2456my bad, I stand corrected,... Thanks!
Taped it!! Still have the VHS!! 👍👍👍
He was wondering how he even did it as a rookie too.
I remember watching this and thanking spike lee for getting him going.
The hit Jordan takes at 8:29 would be a technical in today’s game.
The GOAT basketball player wearing the GOAT air jordan shoes. Not the most comfortable shoe but definitely the most attractive air jordan shoe ever made. They are fire 🔥🔥🔥
Mike, was born in Brooklyn. I believe he said once that Madison Square is his garden (HOME)! 👍🏾💕
Man and this was Michael Jordan’s last season as a Bull .. he obviously wanted to put a show in Madison Square Garden definitely
It's just shoes man, you still gotta play the game. G.O.A.T mentality💯
The goat 💪💪💪💪
Well said Jordan’s level of Artistry
MJ puts on the first Air Jordans that he wore as a rookie. How many players can do that? He must have really taken good care of them.
What if Michael and Larry Jordan was playing here it looks like an epic game...
Mike told spike Lee you come out here and try to guard me 😂😂😂 spike said I will lol
When they show all those celebrities in the audience, one man was the reason they were there.
6:57 - And this was the physical reason.
Isiah can’t hide dat hate 😂 always an excuse after a great play. Bob costas caught it 😆
Yep...its cringe to hear him here. Knowing he's literally hating MJ today. 3/11/22
Much Gratitude
It often seemed like pain made Jordan play better
Love killing the knicks, AIRNESS!!!!!!!
That ball rotation.. Always an open shot.. Wow... GSW always has this arsenal on team.. Play..

No debate ever.

8:14 he walked!! watch his right foot
You're right bro. I watched it a couple times and it was a travel. He actually got away with that more than you think because of his amazing quickness.
This is the only shoe that that fits from the day it released until now.. Unlike some other designs cant adopt todays fashion
What's unique about this great memory is listening to Isiah Thomas praising MJ and no one caught at about the 4:38 mark, Zeke talks about having dinner with MJ but the 2 claim to hate each other so much.
I was looking for a comment like this. They had moved on from whatever happened years before that...Zeke was praising years before and after 92, and I never heard him hold back words on how good he was. Sure, he was doing his job as a commentator but could've left a lot out on the good things he said about MJ. The media and fans just blew it out of proportion or dragged it on. I know Scottie has said his piece on it but we have to take everything that guy says with a big grain of salt.
@@Texas_Cruiser Yeah Zeke was always complimentary of MJ when he was a comentator.
He loved msg he put on a show there
People always talk about Isiah "Hating" Jordan. You will never find another commentator who gave any more respect on air to Jordan than Isiah. Go back and watch any game with Jordan where Isiah was calling color commentary
And that's why he's 2 faced. But that's nothing people didn't already know. I remember him giving MJ praise and calling him the best all on TV back then. He done changed his tune about 4 times since...
BIG GOAT....
Goat 👊👊👊🤩🤨
I miss this level and intensity of defense
I love and missed the background music. They did not play in todays NBA.
MJ taking that growth hormone with his foot growing an inch
This crosses my mind… in 93 he had the Barry bonds head as well all veined out… still my favorite still the greatest but this is suspect to me
@@chrissaintjames3006 my favorite as well but absolutely it would be naive to assume these just exercise, train and take vitamins and perform to that level. Does not take the greatness away from them one bit IMO
GOAT.
has anyone tried to hoop w the retro jordans? ik this nigga literally owns it but i cant imagine playing w these as much as he did
I tried last week, wasn’t planned and had my J’s on, other than horrible feet smell I was ok
People who say aj 1 is only for street wear need to clean some dirt in their eye with this vid
30yrs of his prime people still watch him and compare him that end's the debate completely I don't think any athelete is watched so much then MJ even after 30yrs !!!!!!
