Kareem retirement celebration at MSG (LAL @ NY, 1989)

11-22-1988. Halftime ceremony for Kareem's last game at Madison Square Garden. They did these everywhere in the last game Kareem was to play at a particular venue. For West teams, they did these on the final scheduled appearance whether he was in streets or dressed. At Indy, he was in streets and hit a short skyhook for Pacer fans in dress shoes. Even Miami and Charlotte did lesser ceremonies for him since it was only their inaugural seasons. Special venues like NY where Kareem grew up and MIL, Chic, etc were bigger affairs.

I was at this game with my cousin,uncle as Lakers fan.This was game my 2 time champs Lakers beat NY Knicks 113-99 it was fun night seeing Kareem honored by NY fans

Marv Albert would later join NBC Sports for the NBA (1990-97, 2000-02) and on TNT Sports also in NBA (1999-2000, 2002-2021)
