Jesus is not enough.. according to him. John16 13However when the Spirit of truth comes. He will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak on his own but speaks what he hears and declare to you what is to come. He will glorify me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you.1cor2:14The person without the Spirit, cannot accept the things from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them because they are Spiritually discerned.john4 23Atime is coming and now has come when true worshipers will worship him is Spirit truth, these are the type for worshipers the Father seeks. For God is Spirit and his worshipers MUST worship him in Spirit and in truth. The Spirit is needed to rid ourselves of sin and be children of God.rom8 13If you live according to the flesh, you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh you will live. For those lead by the Spirit are the children of God

That's all fine and dandy, but the majority of tongue speakers treat those that don't at best as second class citizens and at worst, unsaved. It's heretical. I can’t describe the feeling of the Holy Spirit completely saturating me”(liquid love mixed with power is the best description) me, and my best friend as teenagers had the key to the church we went there before the beginning of Friday night service we both wanted to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and we were just praising the Lord and praying, long story short after I got completely filled service goes by, and the preacher comes up to preach. He said the name Jesus, one time, and the Holy Spirit in me, just exploded inside..bearing witness to just that name, and I was just praising God, and worshiping him instantly, when the name Jesus was spoken. As a 17-year-old having the key to the church, I would go after school by myself and just pray and praise. As the Lord is my witness, I heard the sound of a rushing mighty wind numerous times when I would go pray…. that too many times to count it happened so often that I thought everybody experienced it. Come to realize I’ve never met anybody who’s experienced it… and I’m 57 years old. Still as a young person I was on a fast, no food no water for like two days inside the church I was speaking in tongues. It got louder and louder and louder into a booming voice, and I felt it then all of a sudden the interpretation came from me in English and it was a scripture. I’ve never read in my life“this came out of me “he’s coming like a flood he’s coming like a flood he’s coming like a flood at least three times it got louder each time. I’ve never read the scripture when the enemy comes in like a flood etc. up until that point. I can tell you that everybody in this video is not speaking in hole equals tongues. I can tell there is a heavenly prayer language, and there is also the ability to speak in another language that you never learned. I am aware of that the Holy Spirit can, and will do both. The day of Pentecost bears out speaking in a natural earthly language that they didn’t know.

Growing up Pentecostal as kids we knew the adults tongues verbatim and most sounded the same or extremely similar. They never changed, so, that says to me for 50 years they've been given the same word in tongues beginning with "thus saith they lord"! You don't have to interpret because you are not speaking to men but to God.1cor14:2For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.
When the apostles went around laying their hands on believers and they received the Holy Spirit and they and they spoke in tongues, were there interpreters there for any of them? No it was not even mentioned. The only reason Paul said there should be an interpreter was because the church of Corinth was having a problem with disorderly worship. People were probably speaking in tongues over the preacher and those who prophesied. I bet that never happened at your church.

    • @23Fulani

If you are speaking in tongues in a group setting you should have an interpreter because you are speaking to the group. Otherwise, it is pointless to the others because it did not edify anyone. You do not need an interpreter if you are alone. Corinthians 14:27-28 states that there should be 2 or 3 and one should be able to interpret otherwise keep quiet.

@@chicagogal Paul said do not forbid speaking in tongues. You reject the Holy Spirit because you don't have him. If you had the Holy Spirit you would not be arguing with me and you would speak in tongues. But you have neither so arguing with you is pointless. Paul was telling people who spoke in tongues to desire the greater gift of prophesy, but he is still saying tongues is the lesser gift. You are in error because you don't know the word and you don't have the Holy Spirit in the way the men did that Paul layed his hands on.

Mark 16:17-18 These miraculous signs....v17 They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.

Acts 5:12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people.
2 Corinthians 12:12 The signs of a true apostle were worked out among you with all perseverance, by signs and wonders and miracles.
THE APOSTLES HAD THE ABILITY TO GIVE THE 5 POWERS TO OTHER PEOPLE TO HELP IN THE APOSTOLIC MINISTRY
THEY CHOSE 7 MEN TO HELP
Acts 6:2-6 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”
Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them.
1 OF THE 7 MEN STEPHEN
Acts 6:8 Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.
2 OF THE 7 MEN PHILIP
Acts 8:6-8 Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.
THERE WAS AN FALSE 7 MEN GOING AROUND COPING THE CHOSEN 7 MEN
      Acts 19:13-16
THE APOSTLES HAD THE ABILITY TO BAPTIZE PEOPLE WITH THE SPIRIT & FIRE JUST BY THERE PRESENTS, HANDS, SPEAKING
Acts 8:17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them (crowd of gentiles John 4:9 & Acts 8:5), and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message...v45-48 Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, "Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
Acts 19:6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
THE APOSTLES ARE DEAD, THE 7 MEN ARE DEAD & THE PEOPLE THEY LAYED HANDS ON AND SPOKE TO ARE DEAD...APOSTOLIC MINISTRY OF THE 5 POWERS DO NOT EXIST ANY MORE ALL ARE DEAD.
Revelation 2:2 you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.

I remember when I received the gift of speaking in tongues .
And today I could be sitting listening to the word and when I'm touched by the word that is being spoken in my mind and my heart goes up to my creator, YAHUAH ALLUAH, inwardly I began to pray in my regular language and inside quietly as I'm meditating my heavenly language begins to take over and speak directly to him in a language I don't know .
But I do know RUACH Hakodesh that I am praying to my intimately HEAVENLY FATHER YAHUAH ALLUAH IN A LANGUAGE that is powerful an intimate that I don't know or have not learned it except by The RUACH HAKODESH praying in my belly to my FATHER YAHUAH ALLUAH directly!
No one else can you hear me I'm speaking in my belly out of my chest out of my being silently inside of me welled up to my CREATOR AND RESEEMER.
What I can tell you is I didn't plan it I wasn't trying to impress anybody. I was just meditating on the word and commuting intimately with my HEAVENLY FATHER !
In that moment, I instantly knew that he had imparted validation and truth of the word that I was eating in my spirit and I was praising him for it and receiving it as revelation invalidation of HIS WORD becoming alive with understanding and validation in my inside of me. We were communing over the word coming alive in my understanding . Now that could have been out loud, or that could have been silently. And it was for my own edification in a private moment.
If he wanted me to say it out loud I could have but this was private bursting inside of me while speaking intimately as his revelation and validation of that word burst in my spirit my spirit began to speak to him in my heavenly language.
YAHUAH ALLUAH says we are HIS vessel and we are HIS workmanship for HIS GLORY!! HALLELUYAH GLORY TO THE KING HE REIGNS in us.
Just as he did in the book of Acts at Pentecost pouring OUT HIS RUACH HAKODESH upon all flesh.
What I do know is I didn't decide to make it happen while I was praying in English.
Then my prayer changed and burst out in my Heavenly language . Just at the point the Revelation knowledge of what I was reag in the scriptures exploded inside my understanding. All praises to YAHUAH ALLUAH!! HALLELUYAH!

He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. I believe when he thought he was speaking in tongues, as in the so-called private prayer language, he was only speaking gibberish. However, now that he says that he DOES NOT speak in tongues, I believe he does, two authentic languages to be exact: English and Greek, AND he interprets (or explains LOL) so that we (the church) can be edified. Amen Brother Corey, great exposition on the gift of tongues!
A few thoughts: It seems to me that what Peter does in Acts 2 is Prophesy rather than provide interpretation. I firmly believe there is a reason specific English words are chosen over others in the English translations we have. Given the context of 1 Corinthians 14, Paul spends a great deal of time emphasizing literally not being able to understand the words being said as opposed to the significance of the gift being utilized. See verse 11 for example. In order to understand what’s being said, someone must translate orally(interpret).
Also, consider in Acts 2 that we are told there are “devout men from every nation under Heaven” present. Yet, when Peter addresses the entire crowd, everyone understands what language he’s speaking. This indicates there was a common language - like English is the common (albeit unofficial) language in North America. This is why no interpretation was needed, the Jews understood what was said in their native language prior to Peter’s sermon. And they understood the common language. (How else were they able to address one another if they each spoke only one language and not also a common language?)
Interpretation isn’t needed for the unbeliever because the tongue is their native language (unbelievers are who the gift is for).
Interpretation is needed for the believer who is a foreigner to the language they are speaking (which is why they cannot be edified without the Interpretation).
Prophesy, as Paul indicates, doesn’t need interpretation when given in the common language. Prophesy is “simply” declaring the very words of God = preaching the gospel(What Peter does in Acts 2). When an unbeliever hears the gospel, they are convicted and converted to believers. Believers are strengthened encouraged/comforted.
There is no greater gift than the gift of eternal life which we receive by hearing the Word about Christ. This is Prophesy…it edifies the church by increasing the number of believers and strengthening the faith of current believers. This is why it is the greater gift.

Are we making assumptions of these people and holding them to perfection? They give their perspective. They are not commanding to do what they do. You still have to go back to scripture and check if what they are saying is true to the Word.

I'm afraid listening to false teaching have closed your eyes to the truth friend. Speaking in " tongues" is one spiritual language that Paul said " no man knoweth"( 1Cor.14:2). Why is that ? Because its not a language native to this world. Of course it would sound like gibberish to those who don't understand what it is.

I have also listened to Alan Parr extensively and find both channels in the uppermost part on the biblical money so to speak..
However I would agree with viewers who were offended by his mockery of tongues .. not the initial part of the stream but further in when he put up Michael Jackson and a Lexus.. now I don't know what point he's trying to make..
If he believes it's unbiblical then why does the bible instruct us to desire spiritual gifts especially prophecy (1 Cor 14:1) and I would advise him to be careful in his mockery if indeed the gift of tongues are indeed for today.🙏🏿

What about Jesus? What did he say? First look at John.mat3:11“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. What did Jesus say about Pentecost.act1:5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues, Yes the apostles spoke in tongues but what about us? Paul saidActs19:2and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied.Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. So is it gibberish? No it is use by the Spirit speaking mysteries to God that no one understands because it is not spoken to men but God.1cor14:2For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Hey if you want to reject the Holy Spirit that is fine, but it was not the Holy Spirit that told you not to speak in tongues, why? A kingdom divided cannot stands. The Holy Spirit will not silence the speaker because it is the Holy Spirit that enables us to speak. If the Holy Spirit did not enable you to speak it tongues, then of course, I understand why you believe the way you do. But the Holy Spirit would never tell you not to speak in tongues, Paul makes it clear it is the one speaking that the spirits of the prophet are controlled by the prophet and you control the your ability to speak in tongues. @@IAmR1ch So I’ve read a few of your replies here in the comments, and though I don’t particularly disagree with that fact that there is mentioned tongues spoken to God alone from an individual (as there is also clearly tongues that are human languages spoken to non-believers), I am curious after reading your comment here about your thoughts/interpretation of Acts 2:38 which states “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
These folks clearly were told to be baptized in the name of Jesus (water-baptized in the name of Jesus) for the remission of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
As it stands to reason, they received the Holy Spirit after being water-baptized in the name of Jesus, not via a specific baptism of the Spirit, say as you’ve pointed out here in your shared scripture.
So, I genuinely ask, do you believe one may receive the baptism of the Spirit at the same time of water baptism? That they are separate? Or something else that I’ve failed to mention or haven’t made clear? Doing a deep-dive and am curious to hear your thoughts.

    • @IAmR1ch
      @IAmR1ch Před 5 měsíci

You said as it stands to reason, they received the Holy Spirit after water baptism, not reason, assumption. It says And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.. That does not mean automatically, right after, or 6 days later it was not specified. The only person that was mentioned that they received the Holy Spirit right after water baptism was Jesus mat3:16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.luk3:21When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was openedand the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
In acts 19:2 Paul said and asked them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. This makes a big assumption that it is possible you don't receive the Holy Spirit automatically after believing in Jesus. 19:3So Paul asked, Then what baptism did you receive?” John’s baptism, they replied.Paul said, John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus. On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
This suggests that the Holy Spirit does not come even after baptism, but after laying on of hands. This is supported by by Simon the Sorcerer.acts18:9 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them moneyand said, Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.
Judges3:10The Spirit of the LORD came on him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war. The LORD gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him. The Holy Spirit has been at work since the beginning in the old testament and new. If you do not speak in tongues and or prophesy, you do not have the Holy Spirit, at least it can be argued. But it is also refereed to at the baptism of the Holy Spirit as Paul mentioned in acts19:2. So in answer to your question. It depends, If your view is the Holy Spirit is the same as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as Paul suggest. Then no. But if you believe the Baptism of the Holy Spirt is a separate event than just plain old receiving the Holy Spirit, most religions believe you receive the Holy Spirit when you receive Jesus Christ and believe. In my case. I accepted Jesus. Later I was baptized and although I wanted to speak in tongues, it was much later. I had to leave my city, go to a revival in another city, which had a group of men who were authorized to lay hands on people to receive the Holy Spirit (obviously Simon the Sorcerer did not have authority to lay on hands and people receive the Holy Spirit) and I received the Holy Spirit at that time. I had people/ministers lay their hands on me in my city but I did not receive the Holy Spirit. So my personal experience shapes what I know, but it may be possible to receive the Holy Spirit after believing, or after baptism, but I have read anything in the bible that supports this. In all cases, the laying on of hands was required, and that too is my own personal experience. But I have heard of people saying, they spoke in tongues after they came up after being baptized. So that may be possible. I did not feel any different after accepting Jesus, I did not feel any different when I was baptized, but when I received the Holy Spirit, I cannot explain my excitement, my joy, my understanding after I received him. I then had no doubts that God and Jesus existed. It was as if God proved Himself to me in such away I have never doubted again. So when I hear other Christians saying they have doubts about God, I ask them if they speak in tongues and they say they don't believe in that and I am sad for them because I have to believe that God would reveal Himself to them as He did to me if only they accept the Holy Spirit. But sadly I think Satan has deceived people into rejecting the Holy Spirit so they they do not have this power and revelation knowledge. But again, that I my experience. (supported by the bible I might add)

Okay here is what I believe in regards to what I have learned from the Bible versus what I see today in this gift of tongues manifestation by the Spirit. If it is a legitimate gift of the Spirit; meaning like on the Day of Pentecost, the Spirit takes control of the vessel for the period making known His manifestation from within His vessel, then it is easy for me to believe that the manifestation is authentic. The scripture says that the Spirit was given them utterance. That means by definition that the Spirit was making them speak; whether one believes they spoke in tongues or other languages, The Spirit was the driver of the vehicle. However when it appears as though the vessel is the one in control; someone going back and forth at will between speaking tongues and speaking English, then it is clear to me that this is not a biblical manifestation of Spirit of God.
When Allen Parr talks about that he is no longer speaking in tongues in a manner as though this is a conscious or chosen decision he makes for himself, it likewise makes the supposed manifestation itself seem lacking in authenticity.
If the servant of God has choices when it comes to the Spirit of God choosing to manifest Himself in His servant, then we have a weird understanding of sovereignty. When God decides He wants to inhabit a bush for it to burn without being consumed, it burns without being consumed. He don't share and He don't ask permission.

However, my old Baptist church made me feel like if I didn’t speak with this mumbling I didn’t believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior but I do. And I felt in myself that if God wanted me to speak like that he would cause me to speak like that and me not trying to copy or imitate people. That would be worshipping God falsely and that to me is an insult to God. Don’t be a pretender but worship God in Spirit (emotions of you) and in truth (be honest) because the Holy Spirit knows the truth of your heart. 1st off NOBODY AND THIS INCLUDES THE PASTOR, ELDERS ETC, SHOULD TRY TO FORCE ANYONE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES! BECAUSE ONLY THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVING IN SOMEONE CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED BY AN INTERPRETATION!!! NOT BY THE PERSON SPEAKING IN TONGUES EITHER! EVERY CLIP YOU SHOWED COREY, AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR VIDEO, OF PEOPLE SUPPOSEDLY SPEAKING IN TONGUES, WAS FALSE. AND I'LL TELL YOU HOW YOU CAN TELL IF IT'S REAL TONGUES FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT: THERE CAN BE 2000 MEMBERS IN A CHURCH, WITH PEOPLE COUGHING, BABIES CRYING, BUT AS SOON AS SOMEONE STARTS SPEAKING IN TONGUES (AND IT USUALLY ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ARE REVERENTLY WORSHIPPING), A HUSH FALLS OVER THE ENTIRE CONGREGATION. BABIES SUDDENLY GO SILENT. EVERYONE GOES SILENT. IT'S UNLIKE ANYTHING I COULD TRULY DO IT JUSTICE WITH WORDS. THEN COMES THE INTERPRETATION. MOST OF THE TIME BY THE PASTOR. SOMETIMES, BY ANOTHER MEMBER. AND THE INTERPRETATION IS ALWAYS A WORD FROM GOD REMINDING US OF WHO HE IS, AND ENCOURAGING US, AND NOTHING IS EVER SAID IN THE INTERPRETATION THAT WE CAN'T FIND IN SCRIPTURE. IT'S SIMPLY GOD REMINDING US OF HIS MIGHT AND THAT HE'S STILL IN CONTROL, ENCOURAGING US TO BE STEADFAST, ETC. BUT I'VE YET TO HEAR AN INTERPRETATION THAT HAS EVER CONTRADICTED THE WORD OF GOD. OR I WOULD HAVE LEFT THAT CHURCH ASAP. THERE IS ORDER WHEN IT'S TRULY THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVING UTTERANCE TO A BELIEVER. PERFECT ORDER. NOT THAT HOT MESS IN THOSE VIDEO CLIPS.

Now, is it possible that when the group 3 said "they are drunk" they were talking about the foreign people?

I became saved in 1983 and still a vibrant Christ follower at 70. I received my tongue speaking after that. Still have the one I received. But I also studied Scriptures on this teaching comprehensively. From my own personal education of the practice of tongues here’s what I learned.
    1. Speaking in tongues in church during a public gathering should only be done if there is another spirit filled person there who can interprete it. God is more concerned about the understanding of His message clearly for edification of His sheep than speaking in an esoteric language. So if a pastor or any other speaks in tongues but is not followed by a public interpretation then it’s not biblical.
    2. The reference of the use of tongues during the Pentecost was that the tongues spoken by the believers were actually languages native to other people’s foreign language who were there at that time. Im Asian American and I can speak 4 languages each completely different in text sound and intonation from the other. That includes in English.
    3. When I used my spiritual language I used in the context of my private audience with the Holy Spirit in my prayer closet.
Lately Id rather speak to God in plain language I can understand myself.
    4. We test the presence of God in our lives by our words and actions that reflect our consistently faithful obedience to the Word of God at every situation in our daily life. I have lived in the US all 45 years but God remains using me to nurture and support two local native churches in my birth country to this day. Praise Him for giving us the social media like FB where we are able to make His ministries in my island in Asia robust and vibrant. Thats without the use of tongues but actually hands on use of their native languages there which I also understand and speak. Thats the best use of speaking in tongues for them and for me. We clearly understand each other and accomplish things that the Lord promised us we will do greater for Him than what He did.

27:00 being someone, that’s a pastor and believes in the gift of tongues. I think one of the most damaging things that surrounds this specific gift is a lack of teaching and knowledge about all the gifts delivered to the people. And when they were in the upper room and acts their hearts were broken, because they had just lost Jesus. They were in a place of desperation and great need of comfort, which is one of the things that the Bible calls, the Holy Spirit, the comforter, and this was prime, Real Estate, touchdown. I think sometimes we focus too much on what the gifts are instead of just drawing close to God, and coming humbly before him, and yielding our flesh, mine, and hearts to the spirit

In the book of Acts, the people who spoke in tongues on the day of ‘Pentecost’ were the Jews who converted to accepting Jesus Christ. Phillip and the Eunuch, Peter and Cornelius(a gentile) doesn’t mention them speaking in tongues at their conversions. Speaking in tongues means saying about the wonders of God so that those people who didn’t know the ‘regular’ languages used daily at the time could understand what was being said.

Cornelius and his guests did speak in tongues at there conversion in Acts ch.10.
There are only three instances in scripture to where we have accounts of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved. In each instance the first thing that happened when they recieved the Holy Spirit is that they spoke in " tongues"(Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19).
Our English word " tongues" is actually singular. It is only pluralized because more that one speaker is speaking it.
Paul calked it the " unknown" tongue " that no man knoweth"( 1Cor.14:2).
If no man knows it then its not a language native to thus world.

On finding out that they hadn't even heard that there was a Holy Spirit he then asked them," How then were you baptized"?
They said " Johns baptism". Paul said then to them that John said to believe on the one to come after him,Christ Jesus. On hearing this they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and when Paul layed hands on them they recieved the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues.Paul is following Acts 2:38.

@@robertnieten7259 that’s true, Cornelius and the other gentiles were heard speaking in tongues, and praising God. But, what was the reason for ‘speaking in tongues’ at that moment they received and accepted Jesus Christ? Was speaking in tongues a conformation that they received the Holy Spirit, even though they were praising God too? People today believe and are taught that speaking in tongues is ‘conformation’ that they received the Holy Spirit. When apostle Paul and Silas, Acts 16, were in prison, the Jailer and his household were baptized after they believed, but doesn’t mention them speaking in tongues. And then Paul told the ‘officers’ directly to send a message to the magistrate about his and Silas’s imprisonment and what should be done, but, not, instead, the ‘Jailer’ himself, Paul addressed the officers instead of the jailer. Even though the jailer was the one who personally told Paul and Silas they could leave jail, Paul instead, addressed the officers directly. Even though the jailer gave Paul and Silas good news they were being released, the better news to hear ‘first’ would have been the jailer praising God and by tongues after his conversion. Paul wanted to ‘separate’ the two instances.

      1) Direct our attention to an important spiritual truth
      2) To set a precedent so that the same circumstance mentioned elsewhere in scripture need not be repeated in as much detail.
For instance; in Acts ch.2 after the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and began speaking in " tongues", three times the men in the crowd asked how they were hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages.
The spiritual truth is that the believers were all speaking in the same one spiritual language and those in the crowd were Hearing what they were saying in their individual languages.
      The precedent being set is:
      1) When a believer recieved the Holy Spirit the first thing that happens is that they speak in " tongues".( Acts ch.10,19)
      2) A sign to unbelievers, the men in the crowd.

Nowhere in the Bible do people just start babbling and then claim that God spoke to them, or through them, but they somehow don't know what the message was. It's a great excuse to just say, "it was a message for me and no one else". In the Bible where people spoke tongues, it was not a bunch of babbling, it was real languages. Everyone is indwelt and sealed by the Spirit. However, we are not filled all the time, as filling has to do with whether we are submitted to God. When we are submitted, we are able to be led by the Spirit. Being filled does not guarantee a believer will speak in tongues, as we know the Spirit gives gifts as He wills. We know that each person has unique giftings. Our gifts are given to accomplish God’s purposes and are not given to tear people down. They are for proclaiming the Gospel, and for building up a believer, even if in the moment a person needs to hear hard truth. As I have said, I don’t speak in tongues, but I know trusted brothers and sisters who speak in tongues. But, I am still not sure of the purpose of it in a prayer time/small group setting.
