@@Jokstaify haha some people are just ignorant and dumb.. this balls are made in turrialba Costa Rica...
I was amazed to learn that in the end, there is still a human hand stitching these closed!
Yea same here. I'd thought by now they'd have a machine doing it.
His nail dude, so friggin long!
No kidding! I searched for this because I was wondering how a machine managed to do it. I never imagined every ball was hand sewn. Sewer in a baseball factory seems like a very tedious job.
Fun fact: If you go too Endia 🇮🇳 you'll see lots of dirty disgusting stinky slums
@@NightcorEDM India*
That's actually substantially more work than I had ever imagined
I feel somewhat ok now about paying a lot for baseballs after watching this video and all the work that goes into making them.
Doesn't look like the workers get much of that money
Think it's based on per ball. The more balls they do the more money they make which is barbaric by today's standards if it's still true.
Same! I always wondered why each ball costs a few bucks. Definitely am going to appreciate them more from now on!
Have a hard time believing they're worth 18 bucks each, and that's the cheapest I've seen. I think its more that you can brag, "hey, I'm using a real major league ball." Ego has a price.

I remember once taking apart a baseball as a kid and being amazed, it was like journey to the center of the earth
It’s crazy to think that a professional baseball, that barely hits the dirt, is retired so the pitcher can have a new baseball every time
What happens to the old balls?
@@s.h.723 Teams usually hang onto to them for batting practice. They donate some to local little league teams.
@@s.h.723 throw them to fans
They don't replace the ball every pitch, but on average, they go through "7 to 10 dozen" per game. So that's maybe 2.5 to 3.5 pitches for each ball. Some balls get hit into the stands and go home with fans as souvenirs. The remaining balls go to minor-league clubs, batting practice, etc.
I thought they would remove the dirt and use them again
Would have never thought these were hand stitched. Wow! That’s awesome.
I used to think $5 dollars for a quality ball was a lot. Not now. These workers deserve appreciation.
You think the money goes to the workers ?
I’m with you on that. I believe every job deserves appreciation. Whether in a factory, a construction site, or in a store, every worker in this world deserves to be appreciated for what they do
@@SalafiJustice Obviously some of it does.
The smell of a new baseball from a stadium is unmatched.
Still stitched by hand, amazing. Very labor intensive.
Most of the manufacring process is mechanized.
@@GH-oi2jf Clearly, but that stitching looks pretty tedious. I guess after you've perfected your craft, it's relatively easy.
Fascinating. The stitching precise. I like the whole baseball thing. ⚾️ Great game.
love how insider took footage from how its made on the science channel
Think they have a deal with them since the channel is popular
108 stitches by hand! kudos to these craftsman!!
Love baseball. And to see how something is made, that I see and touch everyday makes me happy.

the soundtrack to this video is way funkier than it has any business being
Imagine being a baseball that has to go through this process, shipped, pine tared, make it into the game, just to be used for one pitch that slightly grazes the ground and thrown away never to be seen again.
U ain't lying. 💯
They use them for BP
They give them away to fans too
That isn't the only purpose; they think about their fans as well,, plus fans will keep in a especial place or sell it for bucks on eBay and such
They get cleaned and polished and put back into the game.
Zack Hample needs to visit this factory.
Bill Thompson why he just catches baseballs
The company would get robbed💀💀
I think he did lmao
Pretty cool. I always wondered what was inside. It takes a lot of work to make a baseball!

I thought regulation MLB baseballs were expensive before seeing this, and I “balked” at buying them. Now I realize that they’re actually inexpensive considering the work that goes into them.

they also did not tell us how the shell was made and the ink for the stamps were made or how the rubber for the pill

I was thinking about how baseballs were made, whether it was automated or old fashioned process. CZcams must have read my mind!
I'm impressed with the stitching

Do some research
Those stichers are legends.
Three things surprised me the most about baseball:
1. The number of balls they give away to the crowd.
2. The number of players and coaches constantly spitting all over the place.
3. The number of countries in the *World Series* : 2
Do you know that there are more countries in the International Baseball Federation (112) than in the International Cricket Council (105)?
Wow I didn't know this much went into making a baseball.
always was curious, did experience seeing the inside of a baseball when one broke once and thought it looked like a rubber band ball inside. Now seeing this its pretty cool but also must be long hours for the stitches workers doing this over and over. maybe create machines to do the stitching since they got stuff already doing the yarn winding and logo pressing
I expect the stitchers would not want to lose their jobs.
It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
The pad printing is some legit stuff
