Deciding between the CZ 75B vs CZ SP01 - Which should I Buy?

- Do you go with the stylish lines of the 75 or do you go with the weight of the SP-01 Dust Cover? All these questions answered and more! Guys this was really early in my YT career and it makes me cringe to watch - there's lots of pertinent info but good grief! Have some production value! Check out some of my new videos, I do better now!
A very popular question on the forums, and one that's not easily answered. I'll discuss the differences between the two to help inform your decision. I missed my note to mention the enlarged magazine release on the SP01, so there's that too. The 85 Combat or the Pre-B 75's are good candidates if you decide the 75 frame is for you.

Good video, but if you turn you phone horizontally, it will fill up the whole screen.
Noted. I think that was the last video I filmed in vertical. (sorry about that!)
TheHumbleMarksman No problem, just letting you know.
Cheers man, no worries.
Every time a vertical video is uploaded to youtube, a puppy dies …
I think I bought my CZ 75B back in 2000. Couple years ago I got the CZ 75 compact used. Today I am picking up my CZ P-01. As a secondary house defense gun and a CCW carry I'm definitely going to use the CZ P-01.
definitely go for sp01 after I saw the thick barrel. Thank you for your video , appreciate!
That was a very helpful presentation. Thank You!
I could listen to you talk about guns for hours. So nice to hear someone with a normal tone and no uhh and ummms
You sir did amazing with this and answered all of my questions. Thanks man.
One thing I never noticed before buying my 75 was the beavertail. If I had to buy again, I'd go for the sp01. Love the classic look of the 75, but you start to feel it after 50 rounds.
I sold my 75b for a 75 SAO because of the tang/beavertail ergos.
Haven't looked back, it feels great and is quite a difference.
It's still not as nice as the SP-01 for whatever reason. Slightly different and slightly better feel on the SP-01 vs the 75 SAO
@@ericj6636 Hey Eric J! I own a 75B. I agree with you, the beaver tail is no bueno. Just bumms me out...and living in cali just makes me more mad. I wish cz would get rid of the standard 75B receiver and use the Omega receiver which has a swept up beaver tail....so much better....just like the SAO. Happy New Year!
SP01 looks excellent for IDPA SSP Division -- not too heavy. Good info. Thanks
Thanks for the video. I am trying to decide between these two models.
best of luck with it! they're both nice.
Also the SP-01 has a rail for accessories. Great comparo, thanks for the vid! I agree with others that landscape video would be better.
I love the feel of the 75B and excited to get a hand on the SP-01. I think I'll end up with the latter for home/range.
I purchased the CZ75SP01 because it had the night sights and because it's slightly more accurate than the standard CZ75. I am very impressed with the CZ75's workmanship, it is a very nice firearm!
I own a 75b all steel, i wont trade it for anything
They dont use plastic to lighten the gun, they make it to cheapen the gun, i can hit bullseyes all day long
Your intro is the best.
I've upped my game a bit since then. LOL
I have got to say. After 15 seconds of your video. I'm this guy is on my level!! Love the cz pistols. Might visit there factory in late November. They do tours of the factory.
I would love to see the factory - and especially the new US factory
Liked the video be of the first sentence. Middle aged man shaking an iPhone haha !
I own a tripod these days - I've come up in the world.
Atilla Genc ;
I prefer the omega over these 2 . Nice guns
I have a P01 Omega - great pistol.
just got my first cz... I was originally going with the 75b but after more research I knew I would want the sp01
SP01's are great. 75's are great too, tough to make a bad choice.
TheHumbleMarksman why do you keep calling the 75b the 75? It was really disorienting in the video. Are they not both CZ 75?
I have both a 75B SAO and Shadow-Tac 2 basically a tuned up SP01 Shadow and l can't say enough about them. They are fantastic out of the box and take the same mags. However the 75B cost me $550 where as the Shadow-Tac 2 was $1200 so there I realized how much a bargain the 75B was because both are more accurate then I am.
CV 75 BD for the win! While I like the SP-01, it’s too heavy for excellent reasons already explained in the video.
I went to go buy a SP-01 three weeks ago but saw the CZ 75 BD on sale. So I bought it and added it to my already “B” model collection.
Sometimes “old school” needs no improvement.
The 75b is my choice, no fkn plastic, all steel
I was gonna sell my sr9 an get a G17 now I'm leaning more an more towards CZ the more I research them. How do they handle +P ammunition?
They were developed for NATO rounds which are +P by our standards.
4 years late but I'm getting consistent hits at 150 yards on body targets with 9mm +p from my sp01.
you know how to change out the grips on the cz p07 without the lanyard lube?
I don't have any of the P series guns, but I'm assuming it's similar to how the 75 series comes down. You'll need a pin punch, or an allen key. press down on the lanyard loop then punch out the pin (from right to left), should press out with out too much issue. Take off the lanyard loop mainspring plug, swap it for the flat cap. Press it in, push the pin back through.
This is the part you need:
czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/p07-p09-parts-from-diagram/p07-main-spring-plug.html?___SID=U
If it's out of stock, I'd call Stuart with CZC and ask about it. If they can't get it for you quickly, maybe call up David with Cajun Gunworks and ask the same question.
You can't change grips on the P series in a traditional sense, since it's a molded grip with no affixed grip panels, but I think you're talking about the main spring plug.
Your Camera shake wasn't too bad. :D
Just held my first CZ, a 75 BD, last week. Previously the only gun I could hold naturally was a 1911 on account of my medium-small hands and short stubby fingers, but this pointed great and felt pretty good. I would say if I swapped out the rubber grips with thin grips it would be pretty close to ideal for me, but with no margin for error in terms of being small enough. Are there any frame differences between the 75 and SP01 other than what you mentioned that would affect someone with a small grip like me? Where I live it's difficult for me to get access to CZs to handle - sorry to bother you.
+Don R there are two things you can do to enhance trigger reach other than going cocked and locked on a safety model. First is to use thinner grip panels. An inexpensive set of thin grips are the Pachmyar grips. They come in a G10 and a wood laminate. I have the wood laminates and they are mighty thin and look decent. Other thins would be like VZs, LOKs, or CZ Custom aluminum thins. The Pachmyars can be had for like 20$ on amazon. Next thing you can do is install an SP01 or P01 trigger. It has more of a curve to it so the reach is a bit less. Some hate the recurve trigger, I personally don't care- they all work fine for me. Thin grips is a strong starting point. A third option is that Cajun gun works makes a reach reduction kit if you want to put all cards on the table
Thank you, Humble.
Both
Have you noticed the sp-01 being picky about ammo ? Like 147s or cast or steel case
Thanks for the info very informative
CZ's have short throats so some steeper projectiles will need to be loaded shorter. i haven't seen any issues with JHP's getting in the lands but I have loaded some ammo myself slightly too long to hang the slide out of battery. I haven't heard of any issues feeding factory ammo of any type. If you're curious/concerned - you might buy one box, plunk and spin a round into the barrel. if it will sit flush and rotate in the barrel (meaning not hitting the rifling) then you are good to go. I don't think you'll have any issue with factory round nose - but the freedom JHP - Match ammo or whatever probably won't work - it's loaded long for 9mm 2011s. That's the only one I know that has issues.
TheHumbleMarksman t hats really solid info man I appreciate your time
I've got the Sp01, no issue at all with any factory made ammo, and the small amount of reloads i've put through it.
You won't find that issue with most factory RN profiles. Long loaded JHPs can cause issues and a lot of amateur reloads used to loading for Glocks or Smiths can cause issues. I make my own ammo and I can personally attest to how short the ammo has to be with projectiles with profiles with steep shoulders (like a JHP). Gentle shoulders like on 115 RNs aren't a problem at all. The cast lead 124/125's are gross offenders.
I too had trouble with handloads OAL. now I do "plunk test" with the barrel removed from my 75s
Buy both like I did
Both is usually better
Trick question by both duh! Then buy more models. Czechnology. 🇨🇿
Im planning on getting a SP01 & a rami in 2020
Very cool. I would look at a P01 over a rami
Tacticool - SP-01
Classicool - 75B
Do they use the same grips? Because on vz grips they just have 75 grips and say nothing about the sp01.
Same grips on both.
Thanks
Check out LOK grips and save some money
Get them both like I did.
Just get them both, I did. 🙂👍
If it's for carry it doesn't have to have a rail for light or laser. Lasers are realistically only good to about 10' and if you're somewhere dark enough to "need" a light you're probably in the wrong place. Learn how to use your sights effectively.
For home protection yeah a rail isn't a bad idea. Homes are generally small so any light that's momentary and 100-500 Lumen is plenty bright. You're not using to hunt & you want to minimize your location broadcast with a light. Quick flashes, you know your home & how to move in it in the dark, mostly. You'll know this to be true if you've ever done barn burner training.
Personally I prefer a rail for both carrys. But one of my dailies has no rail and I'm confident with it day or night.
Buy the tool you want not because someone told you too. Make sure it's functional, comfortable and train with it. There are soooo many options out there you're bound to find what you love. And buy as much ammo & minimum 5 mags as possible. You know, for the range 😆👍
isn't the 75b more basic model than spo1? I thought spo1 was more dressed up and more expensive I would go with that model
The SP-01 has a rail, front cocking serrations and night sights. The trigger action is the same as a 75B. SP-01 makes sense for competition shooting because there are *SO MANY* holster options available that are coming up for sale used due to the shadow 2. Some folks prefer swinging around a lighter gun or like a faster cycling slide. The 75B will cycle faster than the SP-01 if that matters.
Lmao the intro wins the day
Yeah sorry about those - my early videos are... rough.
Phone challenged like me. Those are times my daughter helps & calls me an idiot with the phone!
i have cz spo1..w conversion kit to spo1 shadow..what more can i.ask for...no more.i have 3-19rnds mags, 1-16rds, 1-26 rnds mag..i sleep w this blaster!!!
Cz 75 b is their flagship had one in 40 sw and compact 9 mm both cajunize
Both are cool af
I have sp-01 , can someone knowingly confirm I can use regular 75b mags in it? I would like to carry with 16 round mags flush with the bottom and have my 18 round mags I have as backups but the gun shop near by cannot conform or deny that it will fit reliable,I'm assuming it will
Yes- the 75 mags work in the SP01 no problem
@@TheHumbleMarksman thank you
why no full screen?
my solution was 1 of each and a pcr for carry...
that's a pretty good solution. I encourage this.
Where did you get the honeycomb grips?
Those are VZ Diamondback grips - they're a thin - medium grip with a pretty aggressive texture - not so bad it will wear your hands out but uncomfortable to carry against bare skin. Better trigger reach than stock grips, nowhere near the same amount of palmswell.
younggunner89 VZ makes great grips but too expensive for my taste
LOK is a suitable alternative with similar patterns.
TheHumbleMarksman I like palm swells lol, my thin cgw grips are nice but I'm not into it
TheHumbleMarksman...I bought these (the thin grips) for my 75 Omega.
The answer was obviously both
Which one depends on one's intended use.
The SP-01 is the 75 variant.
The extended and upswept beavertail is on the stainless 75 Bs. I agree that all versions of the 75 would be better off with this feature.
CZ should update their 75b classic frame to include the upswept beavertail and ambi safety.
Is the trigger better on the sp01 vs the sp01 tactical? I have heard talk about this because of the decocker.
+tattooeddragon8 single action is identical- double action is different- but if you fully decock the decocker model and don’t use the decocker the pull should be near enough the same to be same as
TheHumbleMarksman thanks for the info.
@@TheHumbleMarksman is there any advantage to the decocker model in competition given that it decocks to half cock and you could start there instead of all the way down like on a safety model?
"The 75 variant"? The CZ 75 was the original. The SP-01 is the variant!
I guess I view the 75 as the "platform" and the 75B model as a short dust cover variant and the SP01 as the FLDC variant. The actions are effectively the same as all FCG parts are interchangeable with differences in the frames/slides/barrels. You're obviously correct
Steven Kendell yeah no shit LOL
I think the lineage is more like CZ 75 -> SP01 -> P09, and CZ 75 Compact -> PCR -> P01 -> P07
LOL...Good video, but never understood people that vertical video...It's like watching a TV sitting on it's side.
+Lance Schaffer we were all noobs at some point... my answer to this question now is a 75 Shadowline or an SP01.
Does the SP01 slide fit the standard 75B?
Yes
So sp01 is the better
you sound like Eric the car guy
Better than a sedated George Lucas I guess.
😂 We have similar interests. Firearms and learning on CZcams about cars lol
Are their slides or uppers interchangeable?
+Joel Creel from firing pin block model to model, yes. Some fitting may be required but probably not. You cannot put a shadow upper on a block frame unless you swap the FPB lifter for a spacer.
Thanks, I was thinking that might be the case.
Vertical video???
It was a crazy time. This is one of my bad old videos - don’t watch these
are these steel frame or polymer?
steel.
They both are cz 75's
i will get that sar mega 2000. even better shooter than 75b, plus its parts wont fall appart
lighting needs improvement
Yeah... I'm doing better in my recent ones but even still have a hard time justifying the expense of purpose built lighting considering what adsense pays lol.
Thanks for uploading. Your videos are very informative. Very detail oriented.
+Will gallant thanks! Working on a proper shadow 2 review now- probably a couple weeks out
buT DiD yOu Do A SaFeTy ChEcK???
Wow....could you be more depressing?
Yer presentation is valid but you sound like Mr. Rogers on Valium.
ROTFLMAO
At the time I was dabbling in YT - all filming was done while the whole house was sleeping and usually very late. Since then I've attempted to up my game somewhat - check out my shadow 2 review. I left it up for posterity but it's far from my best work!
Both
