Roger played an australian player at the AO, yet, almost the whole crowd cheered for him when he leveled at 8 points all...it says it all! :)
Yes, that 50% of his wins should go to Crowd Support for not booing, heckling him but lifting him in tough moments.
Also one thing people are not realising here is that at the time of this game Roger was 38 years old. Fucking 38 years old!
@@srivastav3684 Djokovic can play that level until his 40+. That's why the are banning him from every possible tournament so he wont get too far in the GOAT race 😉

Crazy how even against a tennis player playing in their own home crowd Federer still gets so much cheers
Such a shame for Australian audience
At this age too it’s amazing he can win such a match
@@u_gona_get_addictive There's no duty to favour your countryman instead of Federer, though.
@@u_gona_get_addictive No, people can support whoever they want. You’re not obligated to cheer for your countryman.
@@u_gona_get_addictive nah I’m British and still cheered for Federer when he played Sir Andy
Being the home crowd favourite means nothing if your opponent is Federer!
They will cheer for him no matter who is on the other side of the net.
Simply remarkable.

Federer may not hold all the records anymore but for many of us he will always be "OUR" greatest player of all time, he is the reason I started playing tennis back in 2005 and still going strong today and always wanting to improve and learn new things

Nole is the most consistent player ever, Nadal is the most determined player ever, but Federer is the most gifted/talented man to ever wield a racquet.
The sweet elegance of Roger is something,i miss in tennis. Pure class act..... coming from a Nadal fan
There is just something about the way the ball comes off Federers racket that just looks like magic. No other player has it.
You reckon this is the reason for his popularity? I’m still trying to work out why he got SO much crowd love over the years. It’s understandable when players are old and in decline, but he was getting insane support even in the late 2000s shortly after his dominant period
@@stefan33uk I mean I don't think people even realized it back then, they just viewed him as he can do no wrong. Like every shot that came off his racket was in, he made tennis look very easy to play.
this match was the beginning of the end for Federer's late career resurgence. He played well in his last tournament the 2019 ATP finals but ever since this match against Millman...for whatever reason either is back or knee, Federer was never the same. His next match against Sandgren he could barely walk but some how won and then against Djokovic it wasn't even close. It was all down hill for Federer from this match onwards.
This is why he required a double knee operation.
I still wonder how it all would look if he had converted those match points at Wimbledon 2019…
@@weronikahmielewicz4033 ikr , i was so heartbroken
@@weronikahmielewicz4033The same.
"Well if you love something as much as these two players do, it's probably going to break your heart a few times." Couldn't have described this moment any better. What an epic ending to a match. Tough one, yet so special too.
I was sure his forehand was off because his knee was already giving him trouble here, but to be fair, Milman is a ball retrieving beast and has a mean cross court forehand and redirection skill
Probably he wasn't physcially prepared enough. He didn't play Hopman Cup, his first two matches is too short, and suddenly he was pull to this 4 hours grueling battle
It was his back that during the tournament suddenly was giving him problems again.
it was off, but Millman was also targeting it heavily during the match so Fed was struggling to deal with the pace. However you can see towards the end of the match that Fed anticipated this and was moving to his right a tad earlier which helped him win some crucial points.
@@subarashifoundation Fed doesn't have his old CC forehand anymore. That forehand at its peak could hit the ball anywhere with truly insane angles. Opponents anyway seldom target the forehand corner, but Milman did just that.
Also, the tennis balls by Dunlop were fluffy. Federer doesn’t enjoy the long rallies that he had to play because of the relatively slower conditions (night), Millman’s ball retrieving ability and the balls by Dunlop.
Its so nice to see how cool and composed Federer is at such pressure situations ❤
Yes, against John Millman but not against Novak Djokovic.
@@e2gonah he always eats Djokovic for breakfast
😅
Millman choked a little there, can't blame him though. Federer was smart to change the spin on the ball to make Millman work his nervous system, then the dropshot to test Millman' bravery to shoot winner, wasn't a good dropshot though. Pretty much the same case with Nadal vs. Fritz in Wimbledon 2022 where Nadal tested Fritz while he was also losing his comfort zone and slightly injured. I think it's even more stressful when this is the tiebreak of the 5th set.
Nadal didn't play Fritz at AO, do you mean Wimbledon?
@@hello-mv6yg ah yes, I will edit again. Thanks man !
If this had been the regular tie break to 7, Milman would have won. Insane defence by Fed on the last point!
No he wouldn’t, he would just have collapsed earlier…the tension he shoes from the moment he scores his 8th point is terrible…

Roger, u r a real champion.
Lloré esa madrugada por la emoción de verlo ganar porque su rival dio el partido de su vida. Viví intensamente cada jugada y agradezco el privilegio de haber visto jugar y levantar este y mil triunfos de Su Majestad
Federer literally did not lose his composure or shake his head once in the tiebreak despite the insane distractions from the crowd. That's GOAT mentality. If only Kyrgios can get a pinch of this mentality, he would be the next goat.
If only he had this goat mentality against the real goat djokovic
I think we shouldn't expect to see the next goat among today's players. No offence to them, but goats don't come one per generation in the long run. That the Big 3 came right after Sampras is a coincidence. It's quite possible that no-one will break the current Slam record for 100 years. Rafa's French Open record is likely to stand even longer. And with global warming growing fiercer by the decade, who knows if we'll even have pro tennis in 2100.
@@molybdaenmornell123hopp5 All very valid and surprisingly stimulating points!

I remember Federer giving me multiple heart attacks this entire match.
Federer is still the only player I’ve seen have the bulk of support against home players. And actually I feel he had room to be even more popular.

We’re still missing you Roger! ❤ 😢
Roger's forehand down the line down 7 - 8 hue used to be able to do that al the time but so good here especially under such pressure at that age
This was when Federer was battling with his knee issue. Praying for the Greatest comeback ever for Federer.

@@molybdaenmornell123hopp5 This time will come, just a bit more of patience
Federer will always be a people's favourite.. No matter where he Plays and against whom he plays..
This would be Federer's last hurrah at any major as a top-tier player, reaching the semis but then having to go on hiatus due to injury... and the covid-19 pandemic. Yes, he did reach the quarters at Wimbledon 21 but hasn't done much else since. I don't think he could make much impact now if and when he returns, but prove me wrong!
Federer always tries to make a winner unlike others who wait for the opponent to make mistakes by just putting the ball back in.
RF is the only reason why I still follow Tennis.
Saudades do Federer jogando. Magnífico tenista
Incredible
3:36 a key point here - you can see that Federer put a big amount of spin on the ball and it bounced weirdly (too much to the left), which Millman was not expecting. He ended up having run too much "into" the ball because he didn't have enough time to correct himself, and therefore made an "unforced" error.
Crazy the match
I still lie awake at night thinking about this match

This GOAT sure has earned his retirement.

@@angellucia1987 no they aren’t. And I’m Serbian too
The argument can still easily be made for any of the big 3 plus Laver. Yes, I know they'd beat him, but who is the GOAT depends on how you define greatness. It's nuts that people refuse to acknowledge this.
Props to federer. Millman first four points are from federere's unforced error: 1 fh and 3 bh. Federer stick to his gun of continuing to hit regular Bh instead of slicing or going around for his FH. You can see what it meant for him when he finally got a point off his BH. It paid off when millman is slow to realize he can't attack federer BH as much and when he finally did attack his FH it's the last point. Really bad series of shots from millman as he failed to adjust to the changing tides.
I would trade this match for 2019 Wimbledon final
Should be titled Roger and Millman's Epic 5th set TB. It wouldn't be epic if not for Millman too.

Federer never give up
Upload the full Djokovic-Medvedev 2019 Australian Open Round of 16 match please!
I would prefer extended highlights because I don't want to watch a full match, but I think they should upload both. Oh also it's funny how this was this match was more of a battle than their next two GS meetings. AO 2021 final was Medvedev having a meltdown and USO 2021 was Djokovic having a meltdown.

Se te extraña Roger , quiero verte pronto y anhelo que rompas las marcas de Nadal.
Federer in one leg at 39 made it to AO semis.
Nadal in one foot at 35 won RG.
Đoković at 34 wins easily whatever he couldn't at 25.
It's not fair how weak this time got for these guys.
Not fair for who?
it's just the three of them since 2004.

@@user-of6tl9cd5z For Federer, at the very least. They were in their primes in the 2000s and early 2010s.
Since 2014 we are in a weak era and now it's beyond pathetic. Not a single good player was born after 1989.
@@masters.1000 that's true that federer had the toughest younger generation to compete with. He had nadal since 2005, novak and murray since 2006. Add to them del potro, tsonga, berdych and wawrinka.
My question here is: does a more consistent era necesserily consider stronger?
I mean, even they, except nadal and novak, fell short most of the time against old federer.
Yes, djoko is actually 35 now & playing below par, yet winning everything he couldn't win in his 20s.
The competition & level in the last decade has been a really bad joke.
It's pathetic how a clown like djoko who shits his pants on volleys & net approach & is nothing but a baseline ball pusher has the same number of wimbledon as the greatest grass court player Pete Sampras.

I will never forget this day i had a 0.5 euro parlay with washington wizards @4.2, jabeur @3.5, rybakina to win and a couple of games that i dont remember and millman to win @11. this was the last game haha and all i needed was millman to close it out to win 500 euros so sad man
who's the crowd cheering for?
Federer didn’t even break a sweat lol
La pecheada de Milman fue increíble, le tembló las piernas, igualmente lo tenía a Roger del otro lado, que supo mantenerse concentrado y lo dio vuelta

I remember that I couldn’t watch it so I had to look at my phone. I didn’t know that there was the new rule with the first to 10 Tie-Break so I just saw Millman scoring the 7-4 and cheered. Suddenly I saw that they still played and was like „oh no, that won’t happen“. It happened, I was silly and this kind of Tie-Break is unnecessary
Rodgers the only reason why I watch tennis.....hardluck milman I'm sure he'll win a couple slams
Federer has been fortunate with the worldwide crowd in his all career. Spectators with no respect.
I love that he lost, millman was holding balls against his chest to make the ball slower which is a disadvantage for federer. Glad karma takes place. Hope he had a lot of frustration after this loss.
What Millman say at 5:23 ?
I always thought he was saying “just be perfect.” Like almost in a sarcastic way to calm himself down
I watched this live I thought he lost at 4-8
Home crowd was supporting Federer. Must be painfull for Millman.
At 8-4 "Millman is unplayable", then proceeds to losing 6 points in a row, 5 of them being unforced errors. Big choke.
This match looks more from a Chinese Open or Swiss Open than an Australian Open.
See through all happened. This match completely destroyed RF in two ways. First, he won, and he thought he was competitive and he went too far. At the end his body got punished. Second, Millman let him have a chance to win which leaded to overused his body. Whatever reasons or whatever happened, shame on you Millman. You are an embarrassment to all of us... (I know you tried hard but brruuhhh🤬😡)
Let him win from me....next yr😈😈😈

That was Milmans match..but Fed always lucky in such situations..u cant loose from 8-4 lead..
It's not luck if it keeps happening. If he were always lucky, he'd have 25 to 30 Slams.
Nothing special tbh Milman just hit unforced errors in the second part of the tiebreaker. When the crowd is against you(As always when u play against federer) it gets difficult
