    Trouble with our sport we have to creep around in the shadows, we need some one to champion and speak up for us.
    Why don't we have the same events and meetings like our friends in the states, must look better when people see a well run event with young and old male and female enjoying them selfs. We need to build our sport not have it knocked down brick by brick.

      Corvid Stalker I and my wife Danni Layton completely agree with what your saying. We have just had another article put out in an American airgun magazine. We need to throw away this old pipe smoker way of doing things and make it modern and fun for the next generation. We learn from and respect the past but the future needs modern exiting folk that more kids can relate to. And yes we all have to shoot safely but let’s not be afraid to say shooting is huge FUN .

    General license, we do need to watch our PS&Qs, that is the smart thing to do, however I understand people getting hot under the collar , the people who brought the court case did not care how many farmers went under (and still may) due to losses incurred because of the ban, to take away a families living and the many serious issues that brings, including suicide (high among Farmers already) without a buy or leave is to ME unforgivable.

    Excellent discussion. I started feeding myself with a BSA Airsporter when I was 15 in 1972, and apart from a 5 year period in the '80's, Ive always owned at least one air rifle at a time, pneumatics, multi pumps, the lot. I was lucky enough to own a Goldstar springer in the early nineties, and had more success and more game with it tha any rifle of any type before or since. I absolutely loved it, went to great lengths to actually find spare mags for it, and during the time I owned it, I didnt use anything else. Sadly, I owned it around that weird time in the '90's when Merseyside police would comfiscate airguns for no reason other than you having them and I got random traffic stopped on my way to work when it was in the boot of my car, they took it and try as I might, I couldn't get it back. I even produced my insurance to shoot on two permissions (one farm on the Wirral and one near Chester) but to no avail; within a few weeks I couldnt even get them to tell me where it was or what happened to it, so I moved on (to a Theoben R7, and at the time I was a bit of a lone voice in thinking it horrible). I'd love to see BSA produce a new version, or variant, but, as you say here, made by them in the BSA plant. I never had the chance to try the Theoben SLR, but a close friend had one, never used it, and wouldnt part with it, the bugger

    Tony, Do Daystate have any plans to ever make a springer? Or has Daystate ever been down the prototype route? You must have considered it surely especially with Daystates forward thinking and innovation 🤔 perhaps an electronic springer for the masses is in order 😜 I know many of the shooting forums mention Air Arms and want them to make a break barrel again it would be very interesting to see Daystate make a springer 😎

    • @TonyBelas
      @TonyBelas Před 5 lety +1

      Daystate is really all about pcp, and as the pioneers of that tech, doesn't really have an interest in spring piston style of guns. Can't talk about prototypes, official secrets act ya' know

  • @bobthebarsteward
    @bobthebarsteward Před 5 lety

    The rotary tap was a brilliant idea, the length of the transfer port wasn't really an issue (read some recent articles by Jim Tyler in AGW on that), I had one with a worn out spring which was still right up there at the legal limit after a basic polish and lube, but the cocking effort was ultra low. The breech couldn't be opened unless the rifle was cocked as the piston seal was up against it. Shame they never made an updated one with a better trigger.

  • @NottsPestControl
    @NottsPestControl Před 5 lety

    Another really interesting video. Well done lads. You mention BSA bringing a new high end springer out, the forums keep bringing up people hankering for a high quality Air Arms break barrel, maybe there’s a market for top quality springers. I think people would buy them

    • @hotair4269
      @hotair4269  Před 5 lety +1

      There is definitely a market in the UK but most manufacturers are more interested in PCP's because they are generally more profitable. Sometimes we forget the airgun industry doesn't revolve around the UK anymore but let's hope that someone wants to fill the niche . A new BSA Goldstar, a Lightweight Weihrauch Hw97 or an Air arms Pro-elite Mk2 would be wonderful .

    • @NottsPestControl

    Lloyd just going back to the cheek piece stud in that stock was the sling stud actually being used to attach a sling on that stock? I know an ex army club member that used to have a metal pin on the cheek piece of his air rifle it was used as cheek weld muscle memory thing so his head position was always in the correct position to avoid any parallax error. Must have been uncomfortable having it digging in but I get the reason why...Perhaps the stock you encountered had a similar reason behind it? although a full on sling stud in the cheek would be even more uncomfortable 😂

    Would like the general licence bit to be a bit clearer, the general licences (of which there were more than one) described what birds you could shoot and under what circumstances. They did not have to be applied for, but they were a bit woolly and had not been reviewed/revised since being introduced in the 80s, hence them being declared not fit for purpose by natural englands lawyers following the challenge.This has led to a more robust set of general licences being introduced. It was only an interim measure by natural england where by you had to apply for a licence to shoot specific birds. The removal of the general licences occurred at a bad time for farmers and landowners, right in the middle of lambing season/when crops at there most vulnerable from damage hence the high profile.

My parents live in the Yorkshire Dales and told me about a girl from a farming family who was in tears because of crow attacks during this most recent lambing season. I understand that birds can also be a pest as they defecate in feed and eat seed before it has grown. I don't think I would enjoy pest control but I am thankful that some people do.

Thanks and keep doing these shows

    • @blackpoolairrifles9311
      @blackpoolairrifles9311 Před 4 lety

      A few things, its too heavy, the trigger isn't quite as precise as the Rekord , it doesn't shoot as well as it should for an expensive rifle but the main thing, the ram isn't as reliable, easy or as cheap to fix as a spring and only offers one advantage in that you can leave it cocked without any harm. To me it's pointless when you can just buy a Hw95 which shoots as well, is lighter and much cheaper.

      It will probably be a Gamo made one. They do tend to recoil a lot and the light weight doesn't help. If you want lightweight and good look at the Weihrauch Hw95.

    Would it be possible to use the same method of licence procurement used by anglers, online purchase, specific species , f.a.c. shotgun or airgun, etc

    • @laurieharper1526
      @laurieharper1526 Před 5 lety

      That's not a bad idea. However, it would be more complex (much more so) than angling licences. There are essentially only two types of angling licence - coarse fish and non-migratory trout and all trout, salmon and coarse fish. Still, it's worth investigating.

    • @wallyjumblatt
      @wallyjumblatt Před 5 lety

      It is a general licence, nothing remotely like a fishing licence. The general licence is a cover all licence for the commonest pest birds and any landowner, or their authorised people, in England can shoot pest birds within certain strict parameters without holding a plastic card, or a piece of paper. The terms of the licence can be downloaded, but you don't carry it round with you, nor do you have to do bag returns. Only the shooting of birds like, say, cormorants require a specific (as opposed to general) licence.The biggest problem with this edition of Hot Air is that it has added to confusion by being posted on here on July 2 when the new Defra general licences were reissued weeks ago. In the time between revocation by Natural England and reissue by DEFRA people had to apply for specific licences to shoot common pest birds like crows and woodpigeons. IMHO, Hot Air should've have scrapped this particular section if they were unable to post up-to-date content. This tape must've been shot May/Early June.

    • @LloydSchober
      @LloydSchober Před 4 lety

      The only thing the 90 trigger could do was re-engage the safety easily at the expense of being less reliable and not as good as the rekord unit feel wise . Overall I think it was a downgrade.

      @@LloydSchober owned many 90's and I am aware that the gun had a reputation for having problems. Never came across a problem trigger other than the one time and on stripping the gun down found the trigger unit had been incorrectly rebuilt. I believe most problems arose as a result of messers. Either way I much prefer the feel of the 90's trigger

  • @bobthebarsteward
    @bobthebarsteward Před 5 lety

    The Eclipse, a great rifle with flaws. Gas rams were a cylinder killer too, if anything, they were harder on it than a spring. The trigger is notoriously difficult to assemble, and not brilliant when you managed to get it back together. And the thread in the barrel weight - try your plumber's merchant for a reducer, I found one which was 1/2" unf female and the male was the same as whatever size Webley used (it may be 17x1mm but don't take my word for it), and I just turned the nut section off on a lathe. But that tap is brilliant despite the perceived tp length, no danger of trapping fingers there :)
