- From the BAFTA Archives, the legendary American director of Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Hugo talks about his career in film.
Martin Scorsese was born in New York in 1942 to parents of Sicilian stock, whose Roman Catholic heritage and beliefs informed his early life and films. After a high school desire to enrol in the priesthood, he switched to cinema, receiving a MA in film directing at NYU. After honing his distinct style on a number of short films, he gained wide cultural recognition for his gritty New York drama Mean Streets. Perhaps more so than any other director, he has managed to combine mainstream box-office success with critical and academic acclaim.

This man is full of wisdom and knowledge and he speaks like a genius probably cause he is one.
Gotta love his mom , im sure it was hard for the famous kitchen scene to not make RaY & Bob & Joe not want to stop eating her food in the film
I've been looking at films all my life and it dawned on me I know absolutely nothing about them; actually I've had this feeling for quite awhile. Thanks to Martin Scorsese I've been given a new way to see them. Absolutely fantastic.
Bobby D. Was in most of his movies, and so was Harvey . Guess I didn’t notice that so much, it’s like a little theater group.
Scorsese is one my favorite directors. He's also one of the few directors who I can listen to about films all day and all night. I may not agree with him on every film, but no film can. That's why I love movies as well as every type of art, it's so subjective.
Scorsese is a true hero in filmmaking. And he's also one of the few directors who hasn't lost his touch. The Irishman (which I know came out way after this video) has officially become my 4th favorite of his.
gg
He's so down to earth when you think about what he has created and made , It's remarkable , how humble he remained , i guess that's an important quality in geniuses and great artists they never lose that humanity in them
Thank you for existing Mr. Scorsese.
Yeah even the out of focus
he is such a nice man not only a great director
and sometimes very funny and cute😂
Love this interview 👏 He is an unlimited source of inspiration! One of my biggest idols!
I could listen to him talk about films for hours. And i also like how this video has no dislikes.
Bafta should have interviewed this great director for over 1hour. 39 mins is not long enough.
I don't know if Martin Scorsese would like the editing of this interview
Are you sure that's not Martin dressed up like his mom haha
Simply = Director No 1.
Happy 75th Birthday Martin Scorsese
Scorsese it's a living legend!
The greatest film director of all time... and also a really kind and funny guy.
funny how? does he amuse you? like a clown?
@@carlost9376 best 🤣🤣🤣
This is how you do an intro. Short & sweet, then get right into it. Nice!
Those out of focus camera moves are really annoying though.
Exactly just keep it on him mid shot don't why he need to move the camera
Take it easy with the camera moves man, you're not Scorsese.
You're making it look like he's talking to himself. Ugh, you're killin me.
I can listen to him talk all day
this is awesome Martin is such a brilliant Filmmaker!!
Love the doc with his parents, I know that was real life, but the dialog was priceless.
It'd be really nice if BAFTA would identify who the interviewer is in all of its BAFTA guru series.
this video is shot like a film scene. beautiful
Haven't seen an interview edited this good man! Kudos to the editor.
24:36 Scorsese = genius
Anyone else notice that he says "um" a lot?
I just love him ❤️
They always get big chairs for small sized guys like Scorsese.
They get real mini chairs for comparitively tall and fat folk like Quenin Tarantino
😄😄😄😄😄😄
thanks
I wonder if Marty gets tired of telling the "Are you talking to me?" story?
38:41 Ha ha I'm the same way! :)
im surprised he doesn't open his own film school.
so you could say hes got the sauce?
The interviewer imposed too many of her own thoughts into this interview.
Martin Scorsese is God!!
I don't know who is the person doing the interview, but boy is she frustrating to me.
Camera movement annoying as well
