  • As was asked in a couple of videos of late, how to tackle magnetising the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend kit from Games Workshop. So not wanting to disappoint, this week, i built mine and recorded how to do just that!
    Magnets required:
    Heads and neck - 3mm x 2mm
    Upper ball joints 6mm x 2mm
    Lower ball joints (for lasher tendrils and legs) - 4mm x 2mm
    Maulerfists - 4mm x 2mm
    Each weapon (Hades, Plasma, Lasher and Magma Cutters) 3mm x 2mm
    Shoulder pads - 2mm x 1mm

I'm looking to do Knights so knowing what sizes of magnets are good for general sizes is amazing, and Fiends are on my to-buy list too (cuz they're cool). Keep up the good work!

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před 3 lety

      Yeah thats the biggest challenge with the Knight kit is the Cannon option. Its possible, but only if you really skimp a little on the detail of the ammunition type as well. No one really notices tbh :) I have a vid on my Knight magnet guide too!

      I struggle on slightly bigger drill bits as well tbh, and sometimes wrap a cloth around It and hand turn just to more out the slightly larger holes. Its not good for you, but its never for very much once you use the smaller bits first...id rather do that quickly than break out a bigger drill! Glad the guide helped you out :)

    Thanks for this. I took advantage of Eldritch Omens and I bought the stuff the Eldar players didn't want. I got 2 of these for 30 pounds each still on the sprue. I magnetized the guns for one Forgefiend and now I'm fully magnetized the second kit. I'm trying to get my Iron Warriors ready to go when the new codex comes out and it's very hard to know what they should be. Hopefully NOT two Maulerfiends! Leaked rules are saying the Iron Warriors get a strategem to make their ectoplasma do flat 4 dmg. And since tanks are sadly a thing of the past, my Warsmith has to live in the now and use Daemon Engines, sickening as the prospect may be.

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před 2 lety +1

      Flat 4 for IW would be mental! But yeah thanks and big engines are not in a great place but the new Armour of Contempt is helping out a bit!

    What strength magnets do you use? Also, how do the magnetized legs fit once glued? I realized AFTER than you can glue the back legs in two slightly different poses. One which lets the mauler look more hunched and allows the fist to touch the base, and one that is for the forge where the legs stand pretty. I glued them in the mauler pose so now the front forge fiend feet don't want to sit properly. Any way to remedy that?

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před rokem +1

      Sorry for the huge delay. I don't actually remember the strength. But it doesn't need to be huge, pretty much any type will suffice as on the whole they are not overly load bearing.

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      I think you possibly could but may need to double stack at the bigger joints for a stronger pull. But tbh, eBay sellers have some great pricing for these little magnets I’d probably get a selection of sizes for this and future projects you have. Thanks for watching and glad it’s useful👍👍

      I’m trying to remember the colour palette I used as it’s been a while! I think the basics was to paint it in raw flesh tones so was mid purple shaded with charroburg crimson then highlighted with purple and pinks. Using the same style for all my daemonic flesh such as Helbrutes as well.

    I tried to magnetise mine but my goodness it is not as easy as you make it look lol I think the magnets I've used are too small so I'll buy the ones you're using and try that. The weapons just drop, the back legs move so much, and the weapon attachment parts keep falling off XD

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Sounds like your magnet pull is not right for sure. Any droopy parts are usually caused by not enough power. N52 are the stronger ones to go with, and of course you can use multiple magnets in series with each other to help out on strength without taking up more surface area.

  • @twitchybear7589
    @twitchybear7589 Před 3 lety

    I don't suppose you have any tips for removing magnets? I was considering cutting the ball joints off where the current magnets are but could really use some advice.

    • @OldAverageBritGaming
      @OldAverageBritGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Tricky really. What adhesive did you use, and are they drilled in or surface mounted? You may have to drill the magnet out then rebuild the damage with greenstuff or equivalent... Ive has to do it a couple of times, I drill either side of the magnet, and then use needle nose pliers into the drill holes to grasp the magnet, and twist and pull. Its not easy :(

    • @twitchybear7589
      @twitchybear7589 Před 3 lety

    Am i missing something here?
    You dont need to magnetize the shoulderpads right?

      Tbh anything my pinvice can’t take I wrap the bit in kitchen roll and manually bore the hole out after drilling a large big as I can with the vice. It’s not pleasant, but using a power tool would be very tricky!
