    i was 'that close.... to THAT car.....' when colin and derek was doing 100+mph through sweetlamb....... tremendous days. although i was alive and did see actual group B cars on the road, group A was my golden era, and i still miss it to this day. We gone from 2 million plus spectators per RC rally and UKs largest sporting event of the year to NOTHING....... and no one really wants a fiesta ST on a monday.

    I remember once, Petter Solberg, my childhood hero, was having a very difficult rally. There's a shot of Colin McRae jumping into Petter's car and shutting the door... I really wish we knew what Colin told Petter that day. That's my favorite memory of Colin McRae. 🙇‍♂

    The legend is so strong today that people around the world, remembering it, continue to grieve about the loss. There are fond memories of Colin, the man who changed people and motorsport in general. He is gone but will never be forgotten. I wear a t-shirt of his memory and it reminds me and everyone of him. Respect from Ukraine! Thx...

    • @Kryspa7
      @Kryspa7 Před rokem +2

      You are from Ukraine so i believe it's fair to say, don't get me wrong by any means. I think Colin in rallying was just as now Ukraine is: "Fighting and never giving up" It takes a lot to be that brave! Always pedal to the metal and that's why personally i think Colin was the best ever rally driver. Fans not always should look at statistics or titles but how the person is or behave, the character, the talent and everything behind it.
      Imagine now Colin having those 2 or maybe even 3 titles more, Makinen would have equally the same as Colin or even Colin could have 1 more title having 4 just as Kankkunen which did it first with this number and he "Colin" was not a Finn. Remember he was first British Champion and youngest in WRC back then. Of course more titles didn't happen for him we know that... But the thing is he was always how a rally driver should be. Not look away, pedal to the metal, be nice to fans, be spectacular, be yourself or be as your hero "in his case Ari Vatanen" and just do your job, dream, drive, win. Inspire! That was his passion, his live. And the legacy after him remains massive.
      Thank you @DirtFish and as well thank you Colin for amazing rally memories. 🙂

    What a great feature by you & David Evans - who knows his stuff. I use to love reading both his & David Williams features in Motoring News back in the day which I discovered as new teenage driver in the mid 80"s. I got totally hooked by rallying and started competing then and reading their reports. I joined the BBC and started stage rallying in Welsh events in a mk1 and was lucky enough to end up both competing and working on rallying at that point so saw Colin and Richard Burns doing Top Gear British Rally Championship event and putting very early on-board cameras in their cars - Derek used to switch it of if there was a problem. I gave up competing in 1999, but I still love the sport. I've worked on F1 for C4 for the past 10 years but I took my son to Finland this year to watch and I've got a Yaris GR4 on order - you never lose it. But what a great film - Colin was amazingly quick and awesome to watch and I remember the "Shed" - I was working on the Top Gear Rally Report and I think he took the door off and the they put a press car door on and use a gate latch to shut it? Really great film.

    Colin was driving a borrowed Sierra Cosworth in the British national series around the time he was still driving the Nova. The car was loaned to him by Cyril Bolton and Presspart he may have driven both Group N and Group A cars but pretty sure it was mainly the Group N car in the national series. I remember watching him in it at Dolby but not sure of the year but I vividly remember him hurling the Nova around Olivers Mount and Dolby, Cropton, etc on the National Breakdown.
    The year he won the title we went up to Kielder on the RAC as there was one single stage that crossed the border into Scotland that year so we knew he would be on it on home ground and he didn't disappoint, visibly faster than everyone else. He was special and sorely missed - RIP

      @SuperOrbit69 Před rokem +2

      That’s the thing isn’t it, the speed was so visible. I remember him at the end of the first Grizedale test on the RAC ‘91, where he looked so much faster than the others, and I’m talking about Sainz, Kankkunen, Auriol, not to mention his Subaru team mates Alen and Vatanen.. Then shortly after that, nr the start of Grizedale 2, he rolled into a ditch! But that was the paradox, it was wild, on the edge, like no-one before or since.
