- Wet blending is one of the major blending methods in miniature painting. If you want to paint cloaks or skin, wet blending is perfect solution! Of course you can go ahead and use it on space marine armor, but natural surfaces are the best for wet blending.
Note, that I am painting this sister of battle and I am wet blending small reflections on her armor. If you have brush that is good enough, you will manage to wet blend even small surfaces on all miniatures.
Wet blending is one of the most time efficient miniature painting methods out there and I can not recommend it enough for all natural surfaces, like capes, cloaks, skintones etc. It is one of the more advanced miniature painting methods, but once you master wet blending, it is definitely worth it, as it will save you so much time!
If you have any question on how to wet blend on the miniatures, leave a comment below and I will be happy to assist you.

This video took me over at least 60 hours to craft when I include filming, editing and painting the miniatures for it. If you wanna show me your support, subscribe and give this video thumbs up! 👍👌
Also, ask me if anything is unclear
is anything unclear?
The video took so long to make, Zumikito was clean-shaven when he began...
@@jmh8697 The video that is coming tomorrow took me so long, that my beard turned grey...yes really
Proudly bumped it from 1k to 1.1k likes. Bahaha! thanks for teaching us this in less than 5 minutes.
Almost every other mini painter is too in love with their own goddamn voice to just get to the goddamn point and teach us newbs this shit quick and dirty. Thank you so much!
A pretty darn good explanation!
The skin tones on the girl were excellent. In fact, the whole mini was awesome. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you buddy!
@@Zumikito can i ask where that girl with the katana is from? the model itself is gorgeous and im wondering if there are more like it where she comes from
@@Zerosinker google Freshman Lily from NUTSplanet :)
@@Zumikito thanks man! now i have another thing i can burn my life's savings on
Which girl!?
Great video, for those wanting a nice stress free way to practice this, start with blank bases. It's easy and no matter how bad you screw it up (which I did a LOT when I was learning) throw some texture over it and no worries.
That is so right and now I regret not mentioning it in the video... Thank you for sharing, I must mention it with all techniques!
Brilliant suggestion.
I feel a little bit dumb for not thinking of this before. They are just sitting there doing nothing until I work some basing magic on them, so why not practice some techniques on them in the meantime? Thanks bud!
@@HolyMith My pleasure.
This comment is still helpful 3yrs later gonnna try that now Thanks
I can't believe a "that's what she said" joke got me to subscribe, lol. Well-earned
a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Haha... whatever it takes lol.
Your videos are by far the most easily digestible and quickest to the point of all the miniature painting tutorials out there.
Wet blending is without a doubt my favorite technique to use on painting miniatures because of the speed and the potential to skip intermediate colors. This was one of the best explanations I've seen. Thank you, Zumikito!
One of 3 painters I subscribe to. I love your videos for how informative and engaging they are. Thank you for all the growth you have helped me with and please keep making more videos.
Jeez. I've watched videos 3 times as long as this abou wet blending and still couldn't figure it out. This is the first one that actually helped. Thank you for so many demonstrations.
Your videos are so quick to the point and easy to follow.
Thank you, you’ve helped make me a better painter :)
Thank you for the clear comment on consistency! Advice on paint consistency is maddening when starting out, and this technique as well as edge highlighting require thicker paint. I found this video with your glazing video is perfectly pitched, strikes a good balance. I wish I had watched it first!
Thank you! I appreciate the condensed content and limit of "5 minutes" with a ton of information and tips!
Glad you enjoy it :)
I love how much information about the *concept* you packed into five minutes. Love this format!
Thank you :)
Best explanation I've seen on the topic thus far. Thanks for this.
Magnificent beard and the best videos. You explain in a super short time what takes other painters half an hour to get to. Best videos for digesting good paint technique without wasting half your day watching 30 minute videos that may or may not explain it all
I subbed because your beard is MAGNIFICIENT, im jealous.
Also, your a really fkin great painter ;)
Well, there is somethin for evryone I guess! And double thanks :)
I have never wet blended before. However this video I think does a good job of explaining simply. Definitely going to give this a go with my new Tyranid models.
Subbed because the video was quick and concise and I finished it with a way better idea of what to do. Way better than painting tutorials that dont really arm you with useful techniques.
I love your XXXXX in 5 minutes series! SO HELPFUL!!!
I am so glad to hear that :)
Still the best place for Explanations of painting techniques on youtube
THANK YOU!
You are way too generous with comment like that :) thank you
Gotta say, never heard of you before, but I saw that shot on the blending and was immediately drawn in by the quality of your recording. Probably the quickest I've subbed to any painting channel. I'll be certainly having a look at your other vids.
Thank you for your kind words. Which blending shot did you mean? :)
Nicely explained, I really appreciate how you got to the point and showed multiple examples at the same time. I often find tutorials ramble on but I really appreciate your approach. I'm going to check out more!
Glad it was helpful!
Banging tutorial my dude! Thank you for all your hard work on this topic. I'm just beginning this journey so this was very apt!
That makes me do glad to hear it!
Honestly love this channel.
Man I really like your videos, I’ve seen a couple videos recommended to me and thought you were good. You sure got a new subscriber
Thank you, best description I have heard on wet blending, and def something I will be trying soon!
You are so welcome!
It was a great video for sure.
Fantastic explanation. Thanks for your time teaching us.
Your video inspired me a lot. I've always been stacking layers and painting them, and I'm so happy to know how to do this. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Great video, truly enjoy the way you explain blending…. Thank you.
Finally, someone has lifted the mystery of painting minis . Great channel and awesome painting. Keep up the great work. Colour me subscribed! Cheers!
Love the videos man! Brand new to painting and your videos are fantastic learning material. Love how concise they are.
Awesome, thank you!
I love this video. It was simple and explained very well.
Just did my first ever blend. Thanks, my guy.
I may or may not have found a new channel to binge and forget to apply to my own projects. woops.
Thanks, I've just discovered your channel, and I like what I've seen so far. Subscribed.
Great video very helpful and fast no fluff
This is by far the most helpful video on wet blending I've ever seen! Subbed :)
I appreciate it :)
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you. 👍🏼😁
Glad that it helped
Thank you for a simple and well described process. I subscribed because of this. Plus your end results look outstanding.
Thank you!
I like a lot your 5min videos: very informative and efficient format. I recently tried wet blending and typically use it on small surfaces with various tones of the same color, to simulate reflection as you show on the model: much more efficient than glazing in that case and on a small surface the effect is still satisfactory hence the best compromise en terms of result/time spent
That is just great! Ye, when done rught WB saves so much time
Really enjoyed the focus in this. I am excited to give it a go tonight.
Remember that if it does not work, it might be because of the paints with weird medium :)
For the algorithm, love what your’re doing, keep it up!
Oh man, thank you! Comments like this keep me going
I just tried wet blending for the first time earlier today on mindflayer skin. Going from twilight purple to almost pure white (reaper paints). I wish I would have watched this video first. I went in totally blind but don’t think it’s the worst I’ve ever done on a paint job lol. Tomorrow I will be putting your suggested techniques to good use to go over it! Thank you!
I’m new to the hobby in the scheme of things about 7-8 months now and I’ve done quite well off the hop but now that I’ve gotten more comfortable with the brush I’ve been trying more difficult techniques and wetblending is one of them and it’s the first time in my hobby career that I feel like I’ve hit a wall in really struggling with it. So I’m back to the drawing board watching CZcams videos
Anyone who can paint eyes that well definitely deserves a sub, fantastic video and amazing painting (cool beard as well).
Thank you!
Excellent video, I like how much information you were able to cram into it along with visual examples.
Thank you
Blending the purple into the skin tones was a great idea. The end result looks great!
First video of yours that I have seen. Awesome content and amazing skill man!! Keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Awesome! Instant subscription.
Subscribed because I enjoyed the fast pace of the video - tutorials that are 30 minutes long with only a couple of minutes of content that i am interested grate on me. Thanks, will check out your other content.
It makes me so happy that you like this approach, thank you for your kind words
Love your "5 minute" videos. Let's me understand something and make an informed choice about whether to explore the subject further!
I subbed because of two reasons; the hoovy laugh and the fact that your wall is the same color as mine in my study. Definitely new to the hobby but a technique I want to be able to use. Looking forward to trying it out. Great video. Keep them coming.
haha, that is Will Smith from old youtube rewind video :) Thank you for your kind compliment
Thanks a lot for your videos, always great and learn a lot of useful information and tips
Glad you like them! I am a bit busy the last few months, but I will get back to it soon and ramp up the pace. Cheers 🙌
thank you for this video i've been trying to work out how to start to try and learn this and this is a very clear concise explanation to help me
I am pleased to hear that, since that is exactly what I am aiming for! Thank you for the feedback.
Fantastic video!
Very nice job on those minis! :)
I'd say that wet blending is not hard, but *tricky*, there's a hang to it. When it clicks in your head it's actually very damn easy and sometimes becomes almost automatic, but before that it feels just weird, like "wait, you're rubbing these paints together? like, in the mini? what?". Videos like this that show the process simply and quickly are great!
Thank you! Oh yea, that is true, it is actually simple and easy technique with specific nuances that are difficult to grasp at first, especially when you find that paints interact with each other differently. For example it was easier for me to blend the skin here rather than the green suit
Oled TVs need wet blending. Awesome video! 👍🤘
Great video, thanks for sharing this
It is my pleasure
Nice tutorial man. Great tips.
Thank you! :)
ok that's it. the results on the anime looking figure is something i want to be able to achieve so gonna start learning wet blending. starting now. thank you very much for the video
Go for it! If it does not work, try different paint brands!
Awesome into to wetblending. Thanks
You are more than welcome
Well said!
top notch work, 5 minutes is definitely the right amount of time here. I think its worth mentioning that if you are worried about the under coat showing through (at least in my experience) a darker paint will cover over lighter paint better than the reverse. so if you lay down a light undercoat, you may want to put the light color further into the dark area than you would normally expect to.
really excellent work!! instant subscription from me!
That is right! I feel like you have to figure out these littel nuances of wet blending as you go, but this is definitely true. Thank you 🙌
@@Zumikito you're probably right - overloading someone with information (like what I added) from the get go isn't always a good idea. Cheers, keep up the good work!
@@connorjensen9699 on the other hand, if I realized this, I would add it to the vid. thank you
Game changing for an intermediate painter.
Is it? I am glad to hear that! :)
This was really nice!
Glad to hear that :)
Absolute chad tutorial, helped me blend ork dark skin with lighter skin
The about colors is quite useful. Great, thx!
The part*
Great that it was helpful, by the way even some paints of the same brand are difficult to mix with each other, so you have to try them
Love the blend on the girls legs. Wouldn't initially think to shade flesh with a purple, then I remembered yellow and purple makes brown and realized it made sense
Most of the blend is cadian fleshtone and hexed lichen :) yellow is used sparingly
@@Zumikito Cool. Where is that figure from?

Nice. Reaper is my favorite paint brand. Time for me to get learning this
Well my first attempt on a base was no good, but my first attempt on a mini isn't so bad.
love!!!it
Great videos
Thanks!
Great Job
Thank you
That was really helpful! I've been having trouble getting this technique to work, but I think your tip about sketching the area out beforehand and maybe using a brush or paint retarder will help.
Glad that it helped :)
Subbed. Great work.
Appreciated!
This works great, I'm in the middle of a big mek ork face and ik looks good
Damn, I’m late! But still a super great vid!
It is always great to see your comment bro!
Superb
Woo, subbed!
Woop woop!
I like this guy
I swear I subscribed before. I definitely did now. I want to be better at mini painting.
Welcome aboard! :)
Thank you
You are most welcome :)
Using some liquitex slow dry made it a lot easier for me to learn and practice.
I am 45, when I was a kid playing warhammer we used to tie 2 brush together back to back with elastic bands, and the brushes were always wet and with no paint on them. paint the surface with water, paint immediately paint, then use he double brush dip it thin it, flip it, we used to even thin n flip that brush so fast it was almost instant.. wet blending seems to have become dying art.. I was no slouch but all the best painters I knew as a kid were masters of it
Very concise explanation. Thank you . I also appreciate that you have accurate subtitles , far more so than CZcams usually manages - do you do them yourself?
That is correct!
@@Zumikito on behalf of everyone who's hearing is not quite as good as it used to be, thank you!
@@Vanye111 I didn't really think about that, but I am happy that it helps :) it really isnt that much extra work to add

Not sad at all, more people will find these videos as the time goes :)

What a helpful lad!
Ok mister, i subbed
welcome aboard!
Thank you for this video, I really need to nail this technique down to get my models to look great. one of my issues is color theory and choosing which colors to use on my model ( what looks good together etc.... any color theory tips ?
There is a bunch on youtube about it on youtube, I don't think that I would provide advice good enough via just one comment, though I might make a video on that in the future
YOU ARE FRIGGING AMAZING, and I am VERY HAPPY to purchase paints & products I would buy anyway on Amazon, or products you use & suggest. HOWEVER: Do you have a Patrion, or some other way we can support your work and get advice? I'd support that. Your work is awesome, and I'd like to support more directly, especially if I got feedback on my own projects.❤💥❤💥❤
You are too kind, thank you! Patreon is coming soon, so hold on a little longer. There will be discord channel as well, so I can give you feedback on that
Very interesant video.👍
Thank you :)
Could you do a tutorial of some kind on wet blending/ glazing off white colours like tabards and robes as I feel they are particularly tricky to do well without coffee staining effects from things like sepia washes or the glazing equivalent? Thanks
I airbrush mainly but have not been as successful at wet-blending, I like your skin tones do you have a step by step video for this process with things such as what colors you used. Thank you, keep up the great videos.
It's basically just cadian fleshtone and hexed lichen from vallejo game color, don't have full guide unfortunately
thumbed up! :))
I too have subscribed because I’m enjoying this 5m focused format. Thanks for taking the time to make these!
I have a question: which technique for making gradients (blending, layering, feathering, glazing, etc) is best for someone like me who is:
1) not very skilled
2) not very quick
3) nevertheless would like some nice gradients here and there!
I’m guessing glazing but I’m not sure. Advice please?
Thank you for your kind words :) honestly you can combine all of the techniques - if you are not skilled or quick, the same applies for you too. You can put down some layers and feather each layer over the other one or glaze over them to smooth it out. It is more about how smooth you want your result more than anything. Wet blending is the fastest, but needs practice. Glazing is the most smooth but eats up a lot of time. Stippling can be great since you can get basic gradient going fast and after that you can glaze over it to smooth it out. Try them all on a 30 mm base (or any base really) and you will see what suits you the best
Great tutorial! quick question can you wet blend contrast paints from GW?
you can try, but since contrast paints are not thick enough, you might end up just splashing/rubbing the paint around instead of actually mixing it on the miniature. There needs to be at least some thickness to it preferably
Who voted this down? What was it? His beard? His accent? Both are awesome.
